Abstract:We characterize a $k$-th accumulation point of pseudo-effective thresholds of $n$-dimensional varieties as certain invariant associates to a numerically trivial pair of an $(n-k)$-dimensional variety. This characterization is applied towards Fujita's log spectrum conjecture for large $k$.

Abstract:We show Fujita's spectrum conjecture for $\epsilon$-log canonical pairs and Fujita's log spectrum conjecture for log canonical pairs. Then, we generalize the pseudo-effective threshold of a single divisor to multiple divisors and establish the analogous finiteness and the DCC properties.

Abstract:We consider a class of dependent random variables where the dependence structure involves a factor driven by Sn/n. Under very mild conditions for the innovation, we obtain several asymptotic results for the partial sums including basic asymptotics and strong limit theorems. The fact that the asymptotic properties differ strikingly in a neighbour of a critical point makes the model very interesting.

Abstract:Building on classical aspects of the theory of Diophantine approximation, we consider the collection of all accumulation points of normalized integer vector translates of points $q\alpha$ with $\alpha\in\mathbb{R}^d$ and $q\in\mathbb{Z}$. In the first part of the paper we derive measure theoretic and Hausdorff dimension results about the set of $\alpha$ whose accumulation points are all of $\mathbb{R}^d$. In the second part we focus primarily on the case when the coordinates of $\alpha$ together with $1$ form a basis for an algebraic number field $K$. Here we show that, under the correct normalization, the set of accumulation points displays an ordered geometric structure which reflects algebraic properties of the underlying number field. For example, when $d=2$, this collection of accumulation points can be described as a countable union of dilates (by norms of elements of an order in $K$) of a single ellipse, or of a pair of hyperbolas, depending on whether or not $K$ has a non-trivial embedding into $\mathbb{C}$.

Abstract:Recent study in K-stability suggests that Kawamata log terminal (klt) singularities whose local volumes are bounded away from zero should be bounded up to special degeneration. We show that this is true in dimension three, or when the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are bounded from above. We conjecture that the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are always bounded from above, and verify it in dimension three when the local volumes are bounded away from zero. We also answer a question from Han, Liu, and Qi on the relation between log canonical thresholds and local volumes.

Asymptotics of quantized barycenters of lattice polytopes with applications to algebraic geometry

Abstract:This article addresses a combinatorial problem with applications to algebraic geometry. To a convex lattice polytope $P$ and each of its integer dilations $kP$ one may associate the barycenter of its lattice points. This sequence of $k$-quantized barycenters converge to the (classical) barycenter of the polytope considered as a convex body. A basic question arises: is there a complete asymptotic expansion for this sequence? If so, what are its terms? This article initiates the study of this question. First, we establish the existence of such an expansion as well as determine the first two terms. Second, for Delzant lattice polytopes we use toric algebra to determine all terms using mixed volumes of virtual rooftop polytopes, or alternatively in terms of higher Donaldson--Futaki invariants. Third, for reflexive polytopes we show the quantized barycenters are colinear to first order, and actually colinear in the case of polygons. The proofs use Ehrhart theory, convexity arguments, and toric algebra. As applications we derive the complete asymptotic expansion of the Fujita--Odaka stability thresholds $\delta_k$ on arbitrary polarizations on (possibly singular) toric varieties. In fact, we show they are rational functions of $k$ for sufficiently large $k$. This gives the first general result on Tian's stabilization problem for $\delta_k$-invariants for (possibly singular) toric Fanos: $\delta_k$ stabilize in $k$ if and only if they are all equal to $1$, and when smooth if and only if asymptotically Chow semistable. We also relate the asymptotic expansions to higher Donaldson--Futaki invariants of test configurations motivated by Ehrhart theory, and unify in passing previous results of Donaldson, Ono, Futaki, and Rubinstein--Tian--Zhang.

On the subadditivity of generalized Kodaira dimensions

Abstract:The goals of this paper are of two aspects. Firstly, we introduce the notion of generalized numerical Kodaira dimension with multiplier ideal sheaf and establish the subadditivity inequalities in terms of this notion, which can be used to give an analytic proof of O. Fujino's result on the subadditivity of the log Kodaira dimensions. Secondly, motivated by Zhou-Zhu's subadditivity of generalized Kodaira dimensions, we adopt another definition of generalized Kodaira dimension with multiplier ideal sheaf and show they are equal by using Okounkov bodies. As one application, we show that the superadditivity part in Zhou-Zhu's setting also holds true. As another application, we give an alternative proof of Zhou-Zhu's subadditivity formula, in the case when the singular metric $h_L$ has analytic singularities, by using generalized Iitaka fibrations.

p-adic integrals and linearly dependent points on families of curves I

Abstract:We prove that the set of `low rank' points on sufficiently large fibre powers of families of curves are not Zariski dense. The recent work of Dimitrov-Gao-Habegger and Kühne (and Yuan) imply the existence of a bound which is exponential in the rank, and the Zilber-Pink conjecture implies a bound which is linear in the rank. Our main result is a (slightly weaker) linear bound for `low ranks'. We also prove analogous results for isotrivial families (with relaxed conditions on the rank) and for solutions to the $S$-unit equation, where the bounds are now sub-exponential in the rank. Our proof involves a notion of the Chabauty-Coleman(-Kim) method in families (or, in some sense, for simply connected varieties). For Zariski non-density, we use the recent work of Blàzquez-Sanz, Casale, Freitag and Nagloo on Ax-Schanuel theorems for foliations on principal bundles.

Abstract:Motivated by Kollár-Matsusaka's Riemann-Roch type inequalities, applying effective very ampleness of adjoint bundles on Fujita conjecture and log-concavity given by Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities, we show that for any partition $\lambda$ of the positive integer $d$ there exists a universal bivariate polynomial $Q_\lambda(x, y)$ which has deg $Q \leq d$ and whose coefficients depend only on $n$, such that for any projective manifold $X$ of dimension $n$ and any ample line bundle $L$ on $X$, \begin{equation*} \left|c_\lambda(X)\cdot L^{n -d}\right|\leq \frac{Q_{\lambda}(L^{n}, K_X \cdot L^{n -1} )}{(L^{n})^{d-1}}, \end{equation*} where $K_X$ is the canonical bundle of $X$ and $c_\lambda(X)$ is the monomial Chern class given by the partition $\lambda$. As a special case, when $K_X$ or $-K_X$ is ample, this implies that there exists a constant $c_n$ depending only on $n$ such that for any monomial Chern classes of top degree, the Chern number ratios \begin{equation*} \left|\frac{c_\lambda(X)}{c_1 (X) ^{n}}\right|\leq c_n, \end{equation*} which recovers a recent result of Du-Sun. The main result also yields an asymptotic version of the sharper Riemann-Roch type inequality. Furthermore, using similar method we also obtain inequalities for Chern classes of the logarithmic tangent bundle.

Abstract:Let $(L,he^{-u})$ be a pseudoeffective line bundle on an $n$-dimensional compact Kähler manifold $X$. Let $h^0(X,L^k\otimes \mathcal I(ku))$ be the dimension of the space of sections $s$ of $L^k$ such that $h^k(s,s)e^{-ku}$ is integrable. We show that the limit of $k^{-n}h^0(X,L^k\otimes \mathcal I(ku))$ exists, and equals the non-pluripolar volume of $P[u]_\mathcal I$, the $\mathcal I$-model potential associated to $u$. We give applications of this result to Kähler quantization: fixing a Bernstein-Markov measure $\nu$, we show that the partial Bergman measures of $u$ converge weakly to the non-pluripolar Monge--Ampère measure of $P[u]_\mathcal I$, the partial equilibrium.

Abstract:Incidence problems between geometric objects is a key area of focus in the field of discrete geometry. Among them, the study of incidence problems over finite fields have received a considerable amount of attention in recent years. In this paper, by characterizing the singular values and singular vectors of the corresponding incidence matrix through group algebras, we prove a bound on the number of incidences between points and varieties of a certain form over finite fields. Our result leads to a new incidence bound for points and flats in finite geometries, which improves previous results for certain parameter regimes. As another application of our point-variety incidence bound, we prove a result on pinned distance problems by Phuong et al. and Cilleruelo et al. under a weaker condition.
