Abstract:The connected graph of degree sequence 3,3,3,1,1,1 is called a net, and the vertices of degree 1 in a net is called its endvertices. Broersma conjectured in 1993 that a 2-connected graph G with no induced K_{1,3} is hamiltonian if every endvertex of each induced net of G has degree at least (|V(G)|-2)/3. In this paper we prove this conjecture in the affirmative.

Abstract:The above paper [1] proposes a method to reduce simultaneously a Petri net model and the linear constraints. The reduced result preserves the control specification and the liveness. This note shows via some simple counterexamples that some results claimed in the above paper are incorrect, and then presents the corresponding corrections for two of the results.

Abstract:A graph is called claw-free if it contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to K 1,3 . Matthews and Sumner proved that a 2-connected claw-free graph G is Hamiltonian if every vertex of it has degree at least (| V ( G )| − 2)/3. At the workshop Camp;C (Novy Smokovec, 1993), Broersma conjectured the degree condition of this result can be restricted only to end-vertices of induced copies of N (the graph obtained from a triangle by adding three disjoint pendant edges). Fujisawa and Yamashita showed that the degree condition of Matthews and Sumner can be restricted only to end-vertices of induced copies of Z 1 (the graph obtained from a triangle by adding one pendant edge). Our main result in this paper is a characterization of all graphs H such that a 2-connected claw-free graph G is Hamiltonian if each end-vertex of every induced copy of H in G has degree at least | V ( G )|/3+1. This gives an affirmative solution of the conjecture of Broersma up to an additive constant.

Abstract:We outline a proof of a remarkable conjecture of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa about certain new algebraic structures of quantum link invariants and the integrality of infinite family of new topological invariants. Our method is based on the cut-and-join analysis and a special rational ring characterizing the structure of the Chern-Simons partition function.

Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group. If f : G -> C is a nonzero function with Fourier transform f, the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle states that |supp( f)||supp((f) over cap)| >= |G|. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we present the shift bound for abelian codes with a streamlined proof. Second, we use the shifting technique to prove a generalization and a sharpening of the Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle. In particular, if f : G -> F is a non-zero function from G to a field F, and if f has a Fourier transform (f) over cap, the sharpened uncertainty principle states that |supp(f)|| supp((f) over cap)| >= | G|+| supp(f)|-| H(supp(f))|, where H(supp(f)) is the stabilizer of supp(f) in G.

Abstract:Let claw be the graph $K_{1,3}$. A graph $G$ on $n\geq 3$ vertices is called \emph{o}-heavy if each induced claw of $G$ has a pair of end-vertices with degree sum at least $n$, and 1-heavy if at least one end-vertex of each induced claw of $G$ has degree at least $n/2$. In this note, we show that every 2-connected $o$-heavy or 3-connected 1-heavy graph is Hamiltonian if we restrict Fan-type degree condition or neighborhood intersection condition to certain pairs of vertices in some small induced subgraphs of the graph. Our results improve or extend previous results of Broersma et al., Chen et al., Fan, Goodman & Hedetniemi, Gould & Jacobson, and Shi on the existence of Hamilton cycles in graphs.

Abstract:In the first one in this series of two papers, we have proved that every 3-connected { K 1 , 3 , N 1 , 3 , 3 } $\{{K}_{1,3},{N}_{1,3,3}\}$-free graph is Hamilton-connected. In this paper, we continue in this direction by proving that every 3-connected { K 1 , 3 , X } $\{{K}_{1,3},X\}$-free graph, where X is an element of { N 1 , 1 , 5 , N 2 , 2 , 3 } $X\in \{{N}_{1,1,5},{N}_{2,2,3}\}$, is Hamilton-connected (where N i , j , k ${N}_{i,j,k}$ is the graph obtained by attaching endvertices of three paths of lengths i , j , k $i,j,k$ to a triangle). This together with a previous result of other authors completes the characterization of forbidden induced generalized nets implying Hamilton-connectedness of a 3-connected claw-free graph. We also discuss remaining open cases in a full characterization of connected graphs X $X$ such that every 3-connected { K 1 , 3 , X } $\{{K}_{1,3},X\}$-free graph is Hamilton-connected.
Solution to a Problem on Hamiltonicity of Graphs under Ore- and Fan-Type Heavy Subgraph Conditions

Abstract:A graph G is called claw-o-heavy if every induced claw ($K_{1,3}$) of G has two end-vertices with degree sum at least |V(G)|. For a given graph S, G is called S-f-heavy if for every induced subgraph H of G isomorphic to S and every pair of vertices $u,v\in V(H)$ with $d_H(u,v)=2,$ there holds $\max \{d(u),d(v)\}\ge |V(G)|/2.$ In this paper, we prove that every 2-connected claw-o-heavy and $Z_3$-f-heavy graph is hamiltonian (with two exceptional graphs), where $Z_3$ is the graph obtained by identifying one end-vertex of $P_4$ (a path with 4 vertices) with one vertex of a triangle. This result gives a positive answer to a problem proposed Ning and Zhang (Discrete Math 313:1715–1725, 2013), and also implies two previous theorems of Faudree et al. and Chen et al., respectively.

Abstract:A graph H has the hourglass property if in every induced hourglass S (the unique simple graph with the degree sequence (4, 2, 2, 2, 2)), there are two non-adjacent vertices which have a common neighbor in H - V (S). Let G be a claw-free simple graph and k a positive integer. In this paper, we prove that if either G is hourglass-free or G has the hourglass property and delta(G) >= 4, then G has a 2-factor with at most k components if and only if it has an even factor with at most k components. We provide some of its applications: combining the result (the case when k = 1) with Jaeger (1979) and Chen et al. (2006), we obtain that every 4-edge-connected claw-free graph with the hourglass property is hamiltonian and that every essentially 4-edge-connected claw-free hourglass-free graph of minimum degree at least three is hamiltonian, thereby generalizing the main result in Kaiser et al. (2005) and the result in Broersma et al. (2001) respectively in which the conditions on the vertex-connectivity are replaced by the condition of (essential) 4-edge-connectivity, Combining our result with Catlin and Lai (1990), Lai et al. (2010) and Paulraja (1987), we also obtain several other results on the existence of a hamiltonian cycle in claw-free graphs in this paper. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We apply the theory of $\alpha$-induction of sectors which we elaborated in our previous paper to several nets of subfactors arising from conformal field theory. The main application are conformal embeddings and orbifold inclusions of SU(n) WZW models. For the latter, we construct the extended net of factors by hand. Developing further some ideas of F. Xu, our treatment leads canonically to certain fusion graphs, and in all our examples we rediscover the graphs Di Francesco, Petkova and Zuber associated empirically to the corresponding SU(n) modular invariants. We establish a connection between exponents of these graphs and the appearance of characters in the block-diagonal modular invariants, provided that the extended modular S-matrices diagonalize the endomorphism fusion rules of the extended theories. This is proven for many cases, and our results cover all the block-diagonal SU(2) modular invariants, thus provide some explanation of the A-D-E classification.

Abstract:A graph G of order n is implicit claw-heavy if in every induced copy of K-1,K-3 in G there are two non-adjacent vertices with sum of their implicit degrees at least n. We study various implicit degree conditions (including, but not limiting to, Ore- and Fan-type conditions) imposing of which on specific induced subgraphs of a 2-connected implicit claw-heavy graph ensures its Hamiltonicity. In particular, we improve a recent result of [X. Huang, Implicit degree condition for Hamiltonicity of 2-heavy graphs, Discrete Appl. Math. 219 (2017) 126-131] and complete the characterizations of pairs of o-heavy and f-heavy subgraphs for Hamiltonicity of 2-connected graphs.

Abstract:In this short note, we prove that the angle between intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of an inclusion of simple $C^*$-algebras with finite Watatani index is stable. The notion of angle is instrumental in providing a bound for the cardinality of the lattice of intermediate subalgebras for an irreducible inclusion of simple $C^*$-algebras. We improve the existing upper bound for the cardinality of this set.

Abstract:In 1962, Erdős proved that if a graph $G$ with $n$ vertices satisfies $$ e(G)>\max\left\{\binom{n-k}{2}+k^2,\binom{\lceil(n+1)/2\rceil}{2}+\left\lfloor \frac{n-1}{2}\right\rfloor^2\right\}, $$ where the minimum degree $\delta(G)\geq k$ and $1\leq k\leq(n-1)/2$, then it is Hamiltonian. For $n \geq 2k+1$, let $E^k_n=K_{k}\vee (kK_1+K_{n-2k})$, where "$\vee$" is the "join" operation. One can observe $e(E^k_n)=\binom{n-k}{2}+k^2$ and $E^k_n$ is not Hamiltonian. As $E^k_n$ contains induced claws for $k\geq 2$, a natural question is to characterize all 2-connected claw-free non-Hamiltonian graphs with the largest possible number of edges. We answer this question completely by proving a claw-free analog of Erdős' theorem. Moreover, as byproducts, we establish several tight spectral conditions for a 2-connected claw-free graph to be Hamiltonian. Similar results for the traceability of connected claw-free graphs are also obtained. Our tools include Ryjáček's claw-free closure theory and Brousek's characterization of minimal 2-connected claw-free non-Hamiltonian graphs.

The proof exploits the theory of regenerative composition structures due to Gnedin and Pitman. Abstract:In this paper, we give the following result: Let G be a 2-connected graph of order n ⩾ 13 and n ⩽ 2σ2 − 3, where σ2 = min{d(u) + d(v): uv ∉ E(G)}. If the set of claw-centers of G is independent, then either G is hamiltonian or G belongs to three classes of exceptional graphs. The bound n ⩽ 2σ2 − 3 is sharp.
