Abstract:In this paper we present methods for approximating a helix segment by quintic Bézier curves or quintic rational Bézier curves based on the geometric Hermite interpolation technique in space. The fitting curve interpolates the curvatures as well as the Frenet frames of the original helix at both ends. We achieve a high accuracy of the approximation by giving a proper parametrization of the curve, and the approximation order of the height function along the helix axis is 9 provided that the screw angle of the helix is fixed. Numerical examples are also presented to illustrate the efficiency of the new method.
Fano 3-folds and classification of constantly curved holomorphic $2$-spheres of degree $6$ in the complex Grassmannian $G(2,5)$

Abstract:Up to now the only known constantly curved sextic curve, i.e., holomorphic 2-sphere of degree 6, in the complex $G(2,5)$ has been the first associated curve of the Veronese curve of degree 4, which indicates that such curves are rare to find. Exploring the rich interplay between the ramification of harmonic sequences in differential geometry and algebro-geometric properties of projectively equivalent Fano 3-folds of index 2 and degree 5, we invoke the moduli space structure of sextic curves in the Fano 3-fold often referred to as $V_5$ to confirm the rarity of constancy of curvature, by establishing that the harmonic sequence of a generic sextic curve in $G(2, 5)$ is totally unramified. This paper proposes to investigate from the Galois viewpoint the way ramification can appear in relation to the constancy of curvature among nongeneric sextic curves in $G(2, 5)$. We prove through elaborate $PSL_2$-transvectant and engaged unitary analyses that, up to the ambient unitary equivalence, the moduli space of constantly curved sextic curves in $G(2,5)$ that are $GL(5,{\mathbb C})$-equivalent to those in $V_5$ ramified at the $PSL_2$-invariant 1-dimensional singular locus somewhere, is semialgebraic of dimension 2 all members of which barring the above Veronese curve are nonhomogeneous. Many explicit examples can be constructed.

Abstract:Some new kinds of special curves called $\overset{\_}{\xi}$-helix, $\overset{% \_}{\xi}_{1}$-helix, $\overset{\_}{\mu}$-helix, $\overset{\_}{\nu}$-helix and $W_{k}$-Darboux helices $(k\in \left\{ {n,r,o}\right\} )$ in the Myller configuration $M(C,\overset{\_}{\xi },\pi )$ are defined and studied. The necessary and sufficient conditions for these curves are obtained, also the axes of those helices are given and the relationships between them are introduced.

Abstract:For a given irreducible and monic polynomial $f(x) \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ of degree $4$, we consider the quadratic twists by square-free integers $q$ of the genus one quartic ${H\, :\, y^2=f(x)}$ \[ H_q \, :\, qy^2=f(x). \] We say that a curve $C$ is everywhere locally soluble (ELS) if it has a solution in $\mathbb{R}$ and in $\mathbb{Q}_p$ for every prime $p$ (i.e. if $C(\mathbb{R})\neq \emptyset$ and $C(\mathbb{Q}_p)\neq \emptyset$ for all primes $p$). Let $L=\{q\in \mathbb{N} :\, q \text{ is square-free and } H_q \text{ is ELS}\}$ denote the set of positive square-free integers $q$ for which $H_q$ is everywhere locally soluble. For a real number $x$ let ${L(x)= \#\{q\in L:\, q<x\}}$ be the number of elements in $L$ that are less then $x$. Furthermore, let us denote with \[ F(s)=\sum_{n \in L} \frac{1}{n^s} \] the corresponding Dirichlet's series of the set $L$. In this paper, we obtain that \[ L(x) = c_f \frac{x}{(\ln{x})^{m}}+O\left(\frac{x}{(\ln{x})^\alpha}\right) \] for some constants $c_f$, $m$ and $\alpha$ only depending on $f$ such that $m<\alpha \leq 1+m$. We also express the Dirichlet's series $F(s)$ via Dedekind's zeta functions of certain number fields.

Abstract:In this study, we have identified $V_3$ slant helix ($2^{nd}$ type slant helix, $V_5$ slant helix ($3^{rd}$ type slant helix) and attained some characteristic properties in the Euclidean 5-Space $E^5$. In addition to this, we have proven that there are no other helices other than $V_1$ helix (inclined curve), $V_3$ slant helix and $V_5$ slant helix in the 5-dimensional Euclidean space $E^5$.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new class of curves \alpha called a f-rectifying curves, which its f-position vector defined by {\alpha}_{f}(s)=\int f(s)T(s)ds always lie in the rectifying plane of \alpha, where f is an integrable function and T is the speed curve of {\alpha}. In particular case, when the function f=0 or constant, the class of f-rectifying curves are helix or rectifying curves, respectively. The classification and the characterization of such curves in terms of their curvature and the torsion functions are given with a physical interpretation. We close this study with some examples.

Abstract:In classical curve theory, the geometry of a curve in three dimensions is essentially characterized by their invariants, curvature and torsion. When they are given, the problem of finding a corresponding curve is known as 'solving natural equations'. Explicit solutions are known only for a handful of curve classes, including notably the plane curves and general helices. This paper shows constructively how to solve the natural equations explicitly for an infinite series of curve classes. For every Frenet curve, a family of successor curves can be constructed which have the tangent of the original curve as principal normal. Helices are exactly the successor curves of plane curves and applying the successor transformation to helices leads to slant helices, a class of curves that has received considerable attention in recent years as a natural extension of the concept of general helices. The present paper gives for the first time a generic characterization of the slant helix in three-dimensional Euclidian space in terms of its curvature and torsion, and derives an explicit arc-length parametrization of its tangent vector. These results expand on and put into perspective earlier work on Salkowski curves and curves of constant precession, both of which are subclasses of the slant helix. Abstract:By analyzing the affine Taylor expansion of a non-degenerate plane curve, we obtain characterizations of classes of such curves via curvature properties of the gravity curve. The proof is based on an analysis of the degree parity and leading coefficients of polynomials occurring in the expansion.
Explicit construction of a plane sextic model for genus-five Howe curves, II

Abstract:A Howe curve is defined as the normalization of the fiber product over a projective line of two hyperelliptic curves. Howe curves are very useful to produce important classes of curves over fields of positive characteristic, e.g., maximal, superspecial, or supersingular ones. Determining their feasible equations explicitly is a basic problem, and it has been solved in the hyperelliptic case and in the non-hyperelliptic case with genus not greater than $4$. In this paper, we construct an explicit plane sextic model for non-hyperelliptic Howe curves of genus $5$. We also determine the number and type of singularities on our sextic model, and prove that the singularities are generically $4$ double points. Our results together with Moriya-Kudo's recent ones imply that for each $s \in \{2,3,4,5\}$, there exists a non-hyperellptic curve $H$ of genus $5$ with $\mathrm{Aut}(H) \supset \mathbf{V}_4$ such that its associated plane sextic has $s$ double points.

Classification results for polyharmonic helices in space forms

Abstract:We derive various classification results for polyharmonic helices, which are polyharmonic curves whose geodesic curvatures are all constant, in space forms. We obtain a complete classification of triharmonic helices in spheres of arbitrary dimension. Moreover, we show that polyharmonic helices of arbitrary order with non-vanishing geodesic curvatures to space forms of negative curvature must be geodesics.

Abstract:The smooth quintic del Pezzo variety $Y$ is well-known to be obtained as a linear sections of the Grassmannian variety $\mathrm{Gr}(2,5)$ under the Plücker embedding into $\mathbb{P}^{9}$. Through a local computation, we show the Hilbert scheme of conics in $Y$ for $\text{dim} Y \ge 3$ can be obtained from a certain Grassmannian bundle by a single blowing up/down transformation.

Abstract:To a family of smooth projective cubic surfaces one can canonically associate a family of abelian fivefolds. In characteristic zero, we calculate the Hodge groups of the abelian varieties which arise in this way. In arbitrary characteristic we calculate the monodromy group of the universal family of abelian varieties, and thus show that the Galois group of the 27 lines on a suitably general cubic surface in positive characteristic is as large as possible.

Abstract:Given a smooth genus three curve C, the moduli space of rank two stable vector bundles on C with trivial determinant embeds in as a hypersurface whose singular locus is the Kummer threefold of C; this hypersurface is the Coble quartic. Gruson, Sam and Weyman realized that this quartic could be constructed from a general skew-symmetric four-form in eight variables. Using the lines contained in the quartic, we prove that a similar construction allows to recover , the moduli space of rank two stable vector bundles on C with fixed determinant of odd degree L, as a subvariety of . In fact, each point defines a natural embedding of in . We show that, for the generic such embedding, there exists a unique quadratic section of the Grassmannian which is singular exactly along the image of and thus deserves to be coined the Coble quadric of the pointed curve .

Abstract:We prove two structure theorems for the Gromov-Witten theory of the quintic threefolds, which together give an effective algorithm for the all genus Gromov-Witten potential functions of quintics. By using these structure theorems, we prove Yamaguchi-Yau's Polynomial Ring Conjecture in this paper and prove Bershadsky-Cecotti-Ooguri-Vafa's Feynman rule conjecture in the subsequent paper.

Abstract:Abstract Let be a closed, connected, and oriented Riemannian manifold, which admits a quasiregular ‐curve with infinite energy. We prove that, if the de Rham class of is nonzero and a finite sum of nontrivial products, then there exists a nontrivial graded algebra homomorphism from the de Rham algebra of to the exterior algebra . As an application, we give examples of pairs , where is a closed manifold and is a closed ‐form for , for which every quasiregular ‐curve is constant.

Abstract:We construct a large new family of rational algebraic curves in the complex projective plane with a (p,q) cusp singularity. More precisely, we classify all such pairs (p,q) for curves which are rigid (in a suitable sense), finding a phase transition from discrete to continuous as the ratio p/q crosses the fourth power of the golden ratio. In particular, for many values of (p,q), our curves solve the minimal degree problem for plane curves with a (p,q) cusp singularity. Our technique relies on (i) explicit bijections between curves in log Calabi-Yau surfaces and curves in nontoric blowups of toric surfaces, (ii) the tropical vertex group and its connections with relative Gromov--Witten invariants, and (iii) recent positivity results for scattering diagrams. As our main application, we completely solve the stabilized symplectic embedding problem for four-dimensional ellipsoids into the four-dimensional round ball. The answer is neatly encoded in a single piecewise smooth function which transitions from an infinite Fibonacci staircase to an explicit rational function. Many of our results also extend to other target spaces, e.g. del Pezzo surfaces and more general rational surfaces.
