Abstract:A definable set in a pair (K, k) of algebraically closed fields is co-analyzable relative to the subfield k of the pair if and only if it is almost internal to k. To prove this and some related results for tame pairs of real closed fields we introduce a certain kind of bounded pregeometry for such pairs.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the model-theoretic study of pairs ( K, F ) where K is an algebraically closed field and F is a distinguished subfield of K allowing extra structure. We study the basic model-theoretic properties of those pairs, such as quantifier elimination, model-completeness and saturated models. We also prove some preservation results of classification-theoretic notions such as stability, simplicity, NSOP 1 , and NIP. As an application, we conclude that a PAC field is NSOP 1 iff its absolute Galois group is (as a profinite group).

Abstract:We introduce an abstract framework to study certain classes of stably embedded pairs of models of a complete $\mathcal{L}$-theory $T$, called \textit{beautiful pairs}, which comprises Poizat's belles paires of stable structures and van den Dries-Lewenberg's tame pairs of o-minimal structures. Using an amalgamation construction, we relate several properties of beautiful pairs with classical Fraïssé properties. After characterizing beautiful pairs of various theories of ordered abelian groups and valued fields, including the theories of algebraically, $p$-adically and real closed valued fields, we show an Ax-Kochen-Ershov type result for beautiful pairs of henselian valued fields. As an application, we derive strict pro-definability of particular classes of definable types. When $T$ is one of the theories of valued fields mentioned above, the corresponding classes of types are related to classical geometric spaces and our main result specializes to their strict pro-definability. Most notably, we exhibit the strict pro-definability of a natural space of types associated to Huber's analytifications. In this way, we also recover a result of Hrushovski-Loeser on the strict pro-definability of stably dominated types in algebraically closed valued fields, which corresponds to Berkovich's analytifications.

Abstract:This paper concerns pairs of models of the theory of the differential field of logarithmic-exponential transseries that are tame as a pair of real closed fields. That is, the smaller model is bounded inside the larger model and there exists a standard part map. This covers for instance the differential fields of hyperseries or surreal numbers or maximal Hardy fields equipped with suitable enlargements of the differential field of transseries. The theory of such pairs is complete and model complete in a natural language and it has quantifier elimination in the same language expanded by two predicates and a standard part map. Additionally, the smaller model is purely stably embedded in the pair, and hence so is the constant field. More generally, we study differential-Hensel-Liouville closed pre-$H$-fields, i.e., pre-$H$-fields that are differential-henselian, real closed, and closed under exponential integration, equipped with lifts of their differential residue fields, and establish similar results in that setting relative to the differential residue field.

Abstract:Abstract. We show that a Kleinian surface group, or hyperbolic 3-manifold with a cusp-preserving homotopy-equivalence to a surface, has bounded geometry if and only if there is an upper bound on an associated collection of coefficients that depend only on its end invariants. Bounded geometry is a positive lower bound on the lengths of closed geodesics. When the surface is a once-punctured torus, the coefficients coincide with the continued fraction coefficients associated to the ending laminations.

Some remarks on K-closedness of the couples of real Hardy spaces

Abstract:In this paper K closedness is proved in the case of the couple of real Hardy spaces in the corresponding couple of Lebesgue spaces. This means roughly that any measurable decomposition of an analytic function gives rise to an "analytic" decomposition with summands of roughly the same size. The proof uses Bourgain's method, the atomic decomposition for Hardy spaces and the subharmonic property of the gradient of a system of conjugate harmonic functions.

Abstract: In this paper we investigate boundedness and volumes of generalised pairs, and give applications to usual pairs especially to a class of pairs that we call stable log minimal models. Fixing the dimension and a DCC set controlling coefficients, we will show that the set of volumes of all projective generalised lc pairs $(X,B+M)$ under the given data, satisfies the DCC. Futhermore, we will show that in the klt case, the set of such pairs with ample $K_X+B+M$ and fixed volume, forms a bounded family. We prove a result about descent of nef divisors to bounded families. This is the key to proving the above and various other results. We will then apply the above to study projective lc pairs $(X,B)$ with abundant $K_X+B$ of arbitrary Kodaira dimension. In particular, we show that the set of Iitaka volumes of such pairs satisfies DCC under some natural boundedness assumptions on the fibres of the Iitaka fibration. We define stable log minimal models which consist of a projective lc pair $(X,B)$ with semi-ample $K_X+B$ together with a divisor $A\ge 0$ so that $K_X+B+A$ is ample and $A$ does not contain any non-klt centre of $(X,B)$. This is a generalisation of both usual stable pairs of general type and stable log Calabi-Yau pairs. Fixing appropriate invariants we show that stable log minimal models form a bounded family. Then we discuss connection with moduli spaces.

Abstract:Outside of the framework of geometric theories, we exhibit complete, respectively model-complete theories of rings whose corresponding theory of pairs is complete, respectively model-complete, using transfer results proven in the seventies for boolean products of structures. It includes certain boolean products of pairs of dp-minimal fields of characteristic $0$. We also show, as in the case of pairs of fields, how it fits in the framework of differential rings.

Tame topology in Hensel minimal structures

Abstract:We are concerned with topology of Hensel minimal structures on non-trivially valued fields $K$, whose axiomatic theory was introduced in a recent paper by Cluckers-Halupczok-Rideau. We additionally require that the value group and residue field are orthogonal and that the definable sets in the value group sort are already definable in the language of ordered groups. This condition is satisfied by several classical tame structures on Henselian fields, including Henselian fields with analytic structure, V-minimal fields and polynomially bounded o-minimal structures with a convex subring. In this article, we establish many results concerning definable functions and sets. These are, among others, existence of the limit for definable functions of one variable, a closedness theorem, several non-Archimedean versions of the Lojasiewicz inequalities, an embedding theorem for regular definable spaces, and the definable ultranormality and ultraparacompactness of definable Hausdorff LC-spaces.

On closed definable subsets in Hensel minimal structures

Abstract:This paper deals with Hensel minimal structures on non-trivially valued fields $K$. The main aim is to establish the following two properties of closed 0-definable subsets $A$ in the affine spaces $K^{n}$. Every such subset $A$ is the zero locus of a continuous 0-definable function $f:K^{n} \to K$, and there exists a 0-definable retraction $r: K^{n} \to A$. While the former property is a non-Archimedean counterpart of the one from o-minimal geometry, the former does not hold in real geometry in general. The proofs make use of a model-theoretic compactness argument and ubiquity of clopen sets in non-Archimedean geometry.

Linear algebra over T-pairs

Abstract:This paper treats linear algebra over a semiring pair, in a wide range of applications to tropical algebra and related areas such as hyperrings and fuzzy rings. First we present a more general category of ``pairs'' with their morphisms, called ``weak morphisms,'' paying special attention to supertropical pairs, hyperpairs, and the doubling functor. Then we turn to matrices and the question of whether the row rank, column rank, and submatrix rank of a matrix are equal. Often the submatrix rank is less than or equal to the row rank and the column rank, but there is a counterexample to equality, discovered some time ago by the second author, which we provide in a more general setting (``pairs of the second kind'') that includes the hyperfield of signs. Additional positive results include a version of Cramer's rule, and we find situations when equality holds, encompassing results by Akian, Gaubert, Guterman, Izhakian, Knebusch, and Rowen. We pay special attention to the question of whether $n+1$ vectors of length $n$ need be dependent. At the end, we introduce a category with stronger morphisms, that preserve a surpassing relation.

Almost real closed fields with real analytic structure

Abstract:Cluckers and Lipshitz have shown that real closed fields equipped with real analytic structure are o-minimal. This generalizes the well-known subanalytic structure $\mathbb{R}_{\mathrm{an}}$ on the real numbers. We extend this line of research by investigating ordered fields with real analytic structure that are not necessarily real closed. When considered in a language with a symbol for a convex valuation ring, these structures turn out to be tame as valued fields: we prove that they are $\omega$-h-minimal. Additionally, our approach gives a precise description of the induced structure on the residue field and the value group, and naturally leads to an Ax--Kochen--Ersov-theorem for fields with real analytic structure.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the topological properties of algebraic sets with zero divisors. We impose a subbasic topology on the set of proper ideals of a $k$-algebra and this new ``$k$-space'' becomes a generalization of the corresponding Zariski space. We prove that a $k$-space is $T_{\scriptscriptstyle 0}$, quasi-compact, spectral, and connected. Moreover, we study continuous maps between such $k$-spaces. We conclude with a question about construction of a sheaf of $k$-spaces similar to affine schemes.

Abstract:In this article, we look at analytic geometry from the perspective of relative algebraic geometry with respect to the categories of bornological and Ind-Banach spaces over valued fields (both Archimedean and non-Archimedean). We are able to recast the theory of Grosse-Klönne dagger affinoid domains with their weak G-topology in this new language. We prove an abstract recognition principle for the generators of their standard topology (the morphisms appearing in the covers) and for the condition of a family of morphisms to be a cover. We end with a sketch of an emerging theory of dagger affinoid spaces over the integers, or any Banach ring, where we can see the Archimedean and non-Archimedean worlds coming together.

Definable Transformation to Normal Crossings over Henselian Fields with Separated Analytic Structure

Abstract:We are concerned with rigid analytic geometry in the general setting of Henselian fields K with separated analytic structure, whose theory was developed by Cluckers–Lipshitz–Robinson. It unifies earlier work and approaches of numerous mathematicians. Separated analytic structures admit reasonable relative quantifier elimination in a suitable analytic language. However, the rings of global analytic functions with two kinds of variables seem not to have good algebraic properties such as Noetherianity or excellence. Therefore, the usual global resolution of singularities from rigid analytic geometry is no longer at our disposal. Our main purpose is to give a definable version of the canonical desingularization algorithm (the hypersurface case) due to Bierstone–Milman so that both of these powerful tools are available in the realm of non-Archimedean analytic geometry at the same time. It will be carried out within a category of definable, strong analytic manifolds and maps, which is more flexible than that of affinoid varieties and maps. Strong analytic objects are those definable ones that remain analytic over all fields elementarily equivalent to K. This condition may be regarded as a kind of symmetry imposed on ordinary analytic objects. The strong analytic category makes it possible to apply a model-theoretic compactness argument in the absence of the ordinary topological compactness. On the other hand, our closedness theorem enables application of resolution of singularities to topological problems involving the topology induced by valuation. Eventually, these three results will be applied to such issues as the existence of definable retractions or extending continuous definable functions. The established results remain valid for strictly convergent analytic structures, whose classical examples are complete, rank one valued fields with the Tate algebras of strictly convergent power series. The earlier techniques and approaches to the purely topological versions of those issues cannot be carried over to the definable settings because, among others, non-Archimedean geometry over non-locally compact fields suffers from lack of definable Skolem functions.
Pseudo T-closed fields

Abstract:Pseudo algebraically closed, pseudo real closed, and pseudo $p$-adically closed fields are examples of unstable fields that share many similarities, but have mostly been studied separately. In this text, we propose a unified framework for studying them: the class of pseudo $T$-closed fields, where $T$ is an enriched theory of fields. These fields verify a "local-global" principle for the existence of points on varieties with respect to models of $T$. This approach also enables a good description of some fields equipped with multiple $V$-topologies, particularly pseudo algebraically closed fields with a finite number of valuations. One important result is a (model theoretic) classification result for bounded pseudo $T$-closed fields, in particular we show that under specific hypotheses on $T$, these fields are NTP$_2$ of finite burden.

Abstract:We prove some technical results on definable types in $p$-adically closed fields, with consequences for definable groups and definable topological spaces. First, the code of a definable $n$-type (in the field sort) can be taken to be a real tuple (in the field sort) rather than an imaginary tuple (in the geometric sorts). Second, any definable type in the real or imaginary sorts is generated by a countable union of chains parameterized by the value group. Third, if $X$ is an interpretable set, then the space of global definable types on $X$ is strictly pro-interpretable, building off work of Cubides Kovacsics, Hils, and Ye. Fourth, global definable types can be lifted (in a non-canonical way) along interpretable surjections. Fifth, if $G$ is a definable group with definable f-generics ($dfg$), and $G$ acts on a definable set $X$, then the quotient space $X/G$ is definable, not just interpretable. This explains some phenomena observed by Pillay and Yao. Lastly, we show that interpretable topological spaces satisfy analogues of first-countability and curve selection. Using this, we show that all reasonable notions of definable compactness agree on interpretable topological spaces, and that definable compactness is definable in families.

Abstract:Let K be an algebraically closed field endowed with a complete non-archimedean norm with valuation ring R. Let f:Y -> X be a map of K-affinoid varieties. In this paper we study the analytic structure of the image f(Y) in X; such an image is a typical example of a subanalytic set. We show that the subanalytic sets are precisely the D-semianalytic sets, where D is the truncated division function first introduced by Denef and van den Dries. This result is most conveniently stated as a Quantifier Elimination result for the valuation ring R in an analytic expansion of the language of valued fields.

Abstract:Using the ramification theory of tame and Kaplansky fields, we show that maximal Kaplansky fields contain maximal immediate extensions of each of their subfields. Likewise, algebraically maximal Kaplansky fields contain maximal immediate algebraic extensions of each of their subfields. This study is inspired by problems that appear in henselian valued fields of rank higher than 1 when a Hensel root of a polynomial is approximated by the elements generated by a (transfinite) Newton algorithm.
