Abstract:In this short note, we prove that a complex Finsler vector bundle with positive Kobayashi curvature must be ample, which partially solves a problem of S. Kobayashi posed in 1975. As applications, a strongly pseudoconvex complex Finsler manifold with positive Kobayashi curvature must be biholomorphic to the complex projective space; we also show that all Schur polynomials are numerically positive for complex Finsler vector bundles with positive Kobayashi curvature.

Abstract:Over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, we classify smooth Fano threefolds of Picard number one whose anti-canonical linear systems are not very ample. Furthermore, we also prove that an anti-canonically embedded Fano threefold of genus at least five is an intersection of quadrics.

Assume that $X$ contains a divisor $A$, which is isomorphic to a rational homogeneous space with Picard number one, such that the conormal bundle $\mathscr{N}^*_{A/X}$ is ample over $A$. Building on the works of Tsukioka, Watanabe and Casagrande-Druel, we give a complete classification of such pairs $(X,A)$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth Fano threefold over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. Assume that $|-K_X|$ is very ample and each of the index and the Picard number is equal to one. We prove that $3 \leq g \leq 12$ and $g \neq 11$ for the genus $g$ of $X$. Moreover, we show that there exists no smooth curve on $X$ along which the blowup is Fano.

Abstract:In characteristic 0, the Campana-Peternell conjecture claims that the only smooth Fano variety with nef tangent bundle should be homogeneous. In this paper, we study the positive characteristic version of the Campana-Peternell conjecture. In particular, we give an affirmative answer for Fano 4-folds with nef tangent bundle and Picard number greater than one.

Abstract:We study the enumerativity of Gromov-Witten invariants where the domain curve is fixed in moduli and required to pass through the maximum possible number of points. We say a Fano manifold satisfies asymptotic enumerativity if such invariants are enumerative whenever the degree of the curve is sufficiently large. Lian and Pandharipande speculate that every Fano manifold satisfies asymptotic enumerativity. We give the first counterexamples, as well as some new examples where asymptotic enumerativity holds. The negative examples include special hypersurfaces of low Fano index and certain projective bundles, and the new positive examples include many Fano threefolds and all smooth hypersurfaces of degree $d \leq (n+3)/3$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$.

Abstract:For a smooth curve B over a field k = (k) over bar with char(k) = p, for every complete intersection X-B in B x(Speck) P-k(n) of type (d(1), ..., d(c)), we prove weak approximation of adelic points of X-B by k(B)-points at all places of (strong) potentially good reduction, if the Fano index is >= 2 and if p > max(d(1 ),..., d(c)). This also applies to specializations of complex Fano manifolds with Picard rank 1 and Fano index 1 away from "bad primes".

Abstract:Finite $F$-representation type is an important notion in characteristic-$p$ commutative algebra, but explicit examples of varieties with or without this property are few. We prove that a large class of homogeneous coordinate rings in positive characteristic will fail to have finite $F$-representation type. To do so, we prove a connection between differential operators on the homogeneous coordinate ring of $X$ and the existence of global sections of a twist of $(\mathrm{Sym}^m \Omega_X)^\vee$. By results of Takagi and Takahashi, this allows us to rule out FFRT for coordinate rings of varieties with $(\mathrm{Sym}^m \Omega_X)^\vee$ not ``positive''. By using results positivity and semistability conditions for the (co)tangent sheaves, we show that several classes of varieties fail to have finite $F$-representation type, including abelian varieties, most Calabi--Yau varieties, and complete intersections of general type. Our work also provides examples of the structure of the ring of differential operators for non-$F$-pure varieties, which to this point have largely been unexplored.

Abstract:We define formal orbifolds over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic as curves together with some branch data. Their étale coverings and their fundamental groups are also defined. These fundamental group approximates the fundamental group of an appropriate affine curve. We also define vector bundles on these objects and the category of orbifold bundles on any smooth projective curve. Analogues of various statement about vector bundles which are true in characteristic zero are proved. Some of these are positive characteristic avatar of notions which appear in the second author's work ([Par]) in characteristic zero.

Abstract:Let f : Y → X be a finite morphism between Fano manifolds Y and X such that the Fano index of X is greater than 1. On the one hand, when both X and Y are fourfolds of Picard number 1, we show that the degree of f is bounded in terms of X and Y unless X ≅ P 4 ; hence, such X does not admit any non-isomorphic surjective endomorphism. On the other hand, when X = Y is either a fourfold or a del Pezzo manifold, we prove that, if f is an int-amplified endomorphism, then X is toric. Moreover, we classify all the singular quadrics admitting non-isomorphic endomorphisms.

Abstract:We study Fano manifolds $X$ admitting an unsplit dominating family of rational curves and we prove that the Generalized Mukai Conjecture holds if $X$ has pseudoindex $i_X = (\dim X)/3$ or dimension $\dim X=6$. We also show that this conjecture is true for all Fano manifolds with $i_X > (\dim X)/3$.
