Abstract:In this paper, we obtain several characterizations of varieties of Fano type and projective spaces via absolute complexity. Also, we show that if the absolute complexity of a given pair is negative, then the pair does not admit any -minimal models.

Abstract:We prove the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for anyDOUBLE-STRUCK CAPITAL Q-Fano variety that has a log smooth resolution of singularities such that a negative linear combination of exceptional divisors is relatively ample and the discrepancies of all exceptional divisors are nonpositive. In other words, if such a Fano variety is K-polystable, then it admits a Kahler-Einstein metric. Abstract:For a smooth curve B over a field k = (k) over bar with char(k) = p, for every complete intersection X-B in B x(Speck) P-k(n) of type (d(1), ..., d(c)), we prove weak approximation of adelic points of X-B by k(B)-points at all places of (strong) potentially good reduction, if the Fano index is >= 2 and if p > max(d(1 ),..., d(c)). This also applies to specializations of complex Fano manifolds with Picard rank 1 and Fano index 1 away from "bad primes".

Abstract:Let $X$ be an $n$-dimensional complex Fano manifolds $(n\geq 3)$. Assume that $X$ contains a divisor $A$, which is isomorphic to a rational homogeneous space with Picard number one, such that the conormal bundle $\mathscr{N}^*_{A/X}$ is ample over $A$. Building on the works of Tsukioka, Watanabe and Casagrande-Druel, we give a complete classification of such pairs $(X,A)$.

Abstract:We exhibit the first non-trivial concrete examples of Gromov-Hausdorff compactifications of moduli spaces of K\"ahler-Einstein Fano manifolds in all complex dimensions bigger than two (Fano K-moduli spaces). We also discuss potential applications to explicit study of moduli spaces of K-stable Fano manifolds with large anti-canonical volume. Our arguments are based on recent progress about the geometry of metric tangent cones and on related ideas about the algebro-geometric study of singularities of K-stable Fano varieties.

Abstract:We study smooth complex projective varieties X of maximal Albanese dimension and of general type satisfying (chi)(X, O-X) = 0. We prove that the Albanese variety of X has at least three simple factors. Examples were constructed by Ein and Lazarsfeld, and we prove that in dimension 3, these examples are (up to abelian etale covers) the only ones. By results of 'lien, another source of examples is provided by varieties X of maximal Albanese dimension and of general type satisfying h(0) (X, omega(X)) = 1. Examples were constructed by Chen and Hawn, and again, we prove that in dimension 3, these examples are (up to abelian etale covers) the only ones. We also formulate a conjecture on the general structure of these varieties in all dimensions.

Abstract:A conjecture of J. Huh and B. Sturmfels predicts that the sign of the Euler characteristic of a complex very affine variety depends only on the parity of the dimension. The conjecture is true for locally complete intersections. Beyond this case, we construct counterexamples with arbitrarily bad failure.

Abstract:For $n\geq 4$, let $X$ be a complex smooth Fano $n$-fold whose minimal anticanonical degree of non-free rational curves on $X$ is at least $n-2$. We classify extremal contractions of such varieties. As an application, we obtain a classification of Fano fourfolds with pseudoindex and Picard number greater than one. Combining this result with previous results, we complete the classification of smooth Fano $n$-folds with pseudoindex at least $n-2$ and Picard number greater than one. This can be seen as a generalization of various previous results. We also discuss the relations between pseudoindex and other invariants of Fano varieties.

Abstract:We construct exceptional Fano varieties with the smallest known minimal log discrepancies in all dimensions. These varieties are well-formed hypersurfaces in weighted projective space. Abstract:Finite $F$-representation type is an important notion in characteristic-$p$ commutative algebra, but explicit examples of varieties with or without this property are few. We prove that a large class of homogeneous coordinate rings in positive characteristic will fail to have finite $F$-representation type. To do so, we prove a connection between differential operators on the homogeneous coordinate ring of $X$ and the existence of global sections of a twist of $(\mathrm{Sym}^m \Omega_X)^\vee$. By results of Takagi and Takahashi, this allows us to rule out FFRT for coordinate rings of varieties with $(\mathrm{Sym}^m \Omega_X)^\vee$ not ``positive''. By using results positivity and semistability conditions for the (co)tangent sheaves, we show that several classes of varieties fail to have finite $F$-representation type, including abelian varieties, most Calabi--Yau varieties, and complete intersections of general type. Our work also provides examples of the structure of the ring of differential operators for non-$F$-pure varieties, which to this point have largely been unexplored.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the linear systems $|-mK_X|$ on Fano varieties $X$ with klt singularities. In a given dimension $d$, we prove $|-mK_X|$ is non-empty and contains an element with good singularities for some natural number $m$ depending only on $d$; if in addition $X$ is $\epsilon$-lc for some $\epsilon>0$, then we show that we can choose $m$ depending only on $d$ and $\epsilon$ so that $|-mK_X|$ defines a birational map.
