Abstract:The Lagrange and Markov spectra have been studied since late 19th century, concerning badly approximable real numbers. The Mordell-Gruber spectrum has been studied since 1936, concerning the supremum of the area of a rectangle centered at the origin that contains no other points of a unimodular lattice. We develop techniques that incorporate unimodular lattices and integer sequences, providing the log-systole function which unifies four famous spectra. We compute the Mordell-Gruber spectrum in the two-dimensional case and generalize Perron's formulas behind some famous spectra. Furthermore, we generalize the sum of Cantor sets to prove that certain functions on cartesian product of two Cantor sets contain an interval. Combining the techniques, we prove closedness and existence of Hall's interval in several different applications.

The Markoff and Lagrange spectra on the Hecke group H4

Abstract:We consider the Markoff spectrum and the Lagrange spectrum on the Hecke group $\mathbf H_4$. They are identical with the Markoff and Lagrange spectra of the unit circle. The Markoff spectrum on $\mathbf H_4$ is also known as the Markoff spectrum of index 2 sublattices by Vulakh (1971) and the Markoff spectrum of 2-minimal forms or $C$-minimal forms by Schmidt (1976). They characterized the spectrum up to the first accumulation point, independently. After the first accumulation point, we show that both spectra have positive Hausdorff dimension. Then we find gaps in the spectra and give a bound of Hall's ray.

Abstract:We study Lagrange spectra of Veech translation surfaces, which are a generalization of the classical Lagrange spectrum. We show that any such Lagrange spectrum contains a Hall ray. As a main tool, we use the boundary expansion developed by Bowen and Series to code geodesics in the corresponding Teichmüller disk and prove a formula which allows to express large values in the Lagrange spectrum as sums of Cantor sets.

Spectra of quadratic vector fields on $\mathbb{C}^2$: The missing relation

Abstract:Consider a quadratic vector field on $\mathbb{C}^2$ having an invariant line at infinity and isolated singularities only. We define the extended spectra of singularities to be the collection of the spectra of the linearization matrices of each of the singular points over the affine part, together with all the characteristic numbers (i.e. Camacho-Sad indices) at infinity. This collection consists of 11 complex numbers, and is invariant under affine equivalence of vector fields. In this paper we describe all polynomial relations among these numbers. There are 5 independent polynomial relations; four of them follow from the Euler-Jacobi, the Baum-Bott and the Camacho-Sad index theorems, and are well known. The fifth relation was, until now, completely unknown. We provide an explicit formula for the missing 5th relation, discuss it's meaning and prove that it cannot be formulated as an index theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the spectrum of the complex Hill operator L = (d2)(dx2) + q(x, tau) in L-2(R, C) with the Darboux-Treibich-Verdier potential q(x, t) := Sigma(3)(k=0)n(k)(n(k) + 1) P(x+ z(0) +omega(k)/2; tau), where n(k) is an element of Z(>= 0) with max n(k) >= 1 and z(0) is an element of C is chosen such that q(x, tau) has no singularities on R. For any fixed tau is an element of iR(>0), we give a necessary and sufficient condition on (n(0), n(1), n(2), n(3)) to guarantee that the spectrum sigma(L) is sigma(L) = (-infinity, E-2g] boolean OR [E2g-1, E2g-2] boolean OR ... boolean OR [E-1, E-0], E-j is an element of R, and hence generalizes Ince's remarkable result in 1940 for the Lame potential to the Darboux-Treibich-Verdier potential. We also determine the number of (anti)periodic eigenvalues in each bounded interval (E2j-1, E2j-2), which generalizes the recent result by Haese-Hill et al., who studied the Lame case n(1) = n(2) = n(3) = 0.

Abstract:We give a complete list of the points in the spectrum $$\mathcal{Z}=\{\inf_{(x,y)\in\Lambda,xy\neq0}{\left\vert xy\right\vert},\,\text{$\Lambda$ is a unimodular rational lattice of $\mathbb{R}^2$}\}$$ above $\frac{1}{3}.$ We further show that the set of limit points of $\mathcal{Z}$ with values larger than $\frac{1}{3},$ is equal to the set $\{\frac{2m}{\sqrt{9m^2-4}+3m},\text{ where $m$ is a Markoff number}\}$.

Abstract:We introduce multivariate rational generating series called Hall-Littlewood-Schubert ($\mathsf{HLS}_n$) series. They are defined in terms of polynomials related to Hall-Littlewood polynomials and semistandard Young tableaux. We show that $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series provide solutions to a range of enumeration problems upon judicious substitutions of their variables. These include the problem to enumerate sublattices of a $p$-adic lattice according to the elementary divisor types of their intersections with the members of a complete flag of reference in the ambient lattice. This is an affine analog of the stratification of Grassmannians by Schubert varieties. Other substitutions of $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield new formulae for Hecke series and $p$-adic integrals associated with symplectic $p$-adic groups, and combinatorially defined quiver representation zeta functions. $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series are $q$-analogs of Hilbert series of Stanley-Reisner rings associated with posets arising from parabolic quotients of Coxeter groups of type $\mathsf{B}$ with the Bruhat order. Special values of coarsened $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield analogs of the classical Littlewood identity for the generating functions of Schur polynomials.

Abstract:Many results in harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory ensure the existence of geometric configurations under the largeness of sets, which are sometimes specified via the ball condition and Fourier decay. Recently, Kuca, Opronon, Sahlsten, and Bruce, Pramanik proved a Sarkozy-like theorem, which removes the Fourier decay condition and shows that sets with large Hausdorff dimensions contain two-point patterns. This paper explores the existence of a three-point configuration that relies solely on the Hausdorff dimension.

Abstract:For a hypersurface isolated singularity, we verify that the Tjurina spectrum depends only on the complex analytic hypersurface germ. This is reduced to the analytic version of a theorem of Mustata and Popa on the coincidence of the Hodge ideals with the microlocal $V$-filtration modulo the ideal of the hypersurface (using the Deligne extension). We then give a proof of a conjecture of Q. Shi, Y. Wang and H. Zuo claiming that the maximal spectral number of a complex hypersurface isolated singularity is not a member of the Tjurina spectrum. This follows from the self-duality of the Jacobian ring, since the latter is compatible with the action of $f$ as well as the $V$-filtration. We also provide a sufficient condition for the generalized Hertling conjecture on the variance of Tjurina spectrum to fail, and calculate certain examples using some codes in Singular.

Abstract:In the article, we consider a question concerning the estimation of summatory function of the Fourier coefficients of Hecke eigenforms indexed by a sparse set of integers. In particular, we provide an estimate for the following sum; \begin{equation*} \begin{split} S(f, \mathcal{Q}; X ) &:= \sideset{}{^{\flat }}\sum_{n= \mathcal{Q}(\underline{x}) \le X \atop \gcd(n,N) =1 } \lambda_{f}(n), \end{split}\end{equation*} where $\flat$ means that sum runs over the square-free positive integers, $\lambda_{f}(n)$ denotes the normalised $n^{\rm th}$ Fourier coefficients of a Hecke eigenform $f$ of integral weight $k$ for the congruence subgroup $\Gamma_{0}(N)$ and $\mathcal{Q}$ is a primitive integral positive-definite binary quadratic forms of fixed discriminant $D<0$ with the class number $h(D)=1$. As a consequence, we determine the size, in terms of conductor of associated $L$-function, for the first sign change of Hecke eigenvalues indexed by the integers which are represented by $\mathcal{Q}$. This work is an improvement and generalisation of the previous results.

Abstract:We prove an asymptotic formula with four main terms for the fourth moment of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions unconditionally. Our proof is based on the work of Li , Soundararajan, and Soundararajan-Young. Our proof requires several new ingredients. These include a modified large sieve estimate for quadratic characters where we consider a fourth moment, rather than a second, as well as observing cross cancellations between diagonal and off-diagonal terms, which involves somewhat delicate combinatorial arguments.

Abstract:We reprove the fact, due to Backus, that the Poincar{é} operator in ellipsoids admits a pure point spectrum with polynomial eigenfunctions.We then show that the eigenvalues of the Poincar{é} operator restricted to polynomial vector fields of fixed degree admitsa limit repartition given by a probability measure that we construct explicitely. For that, we use Fourier integral operators and ideas comingfrom Alan Weinstein and the first author in the seventies. The starting observation is that the orthogonal polynomials in ellipsoids satisfy a PDE.

Abstract:We show that quadratic and symmetric L-theory of the integers are related by Anderson duality and show that both spectra split integrally into the L-theory of the real numbers and a generalised Eilenberg-Mac Lane spectrum. As a consequence, we obtain a corresponding splitting of the space G/Top. Finally, we prove analogous results for the genuine L-spectra recently devised for the study of Grothendieck--Witt theory.
