Abstract:Recently, we proved the Griffiths conjecture on the boundedness of the period maps, and then used it to prove global Torelli theorem on the Torelli space under certain natural conditions. This paper serves as a review of these results and an introduction to the main ideas behind the proofs.

Abstract:We consider the deformations of complex orbifolds with the underlying smooth structures being fixed. As a corollary, we can prove that the deformations of a Calabi-Yau orbifold is unobstructed by using standard arguments. Then we consider the period map for a family of complex Kähler orbifolds. We prove that the period map is holomorphic, horizontal and consistent with our Kodaira-Spencer map.

Abstract:The general Mandelbrot sets from the non-analytical complex mapping () c z z + ← −α for 2 ≥ α are studied in this paper. The M-sets' properties of different parameter α are theoretically analyzed and proved. The parameter equation of the fixed point region's boundary when α is a positive integer are strictly given. A symmetrical period-checking algorithm, which colors M-sets according to the period of each point in the complex C-plane, is put forward for the first time. The new algorithm takes full advantage of the M-sets' property during the rendering process and can greatly reduce the number of iterations in calculating the period of all pixel points in the drawing region. The experimental results show that both high quality and high drawing speed of the M-sets' fractal image can be acquired with the new algorithm. Furthermore, the new algorithm can be generalized to the drawing of other Mandelbrot sets and Julia sets.

Abstract:The period map for cubic fourfolds takes values in a locally symmetric variety of orthogonal type of dimension 20. We determine the image of this period map (thus confirming a conjecture of Hassett) and give at the same time a new proof of the theorem of Voisin that asserts that this period map is an open embedding. An algebraic version of our main result is an identification of the algebra of SL (6,ℂ)-invariant polynomials on the representation space Sym 3 (ℂ 6 ) * with a certain algebra of meromorphic automorphic forms on a symmetric domain of orthogonal type of dimension 20. We also describe the stratification of the moduli space of semistable cubic fourfolds in terms of a Vinberg-Dynkin diagram.

Abstract:A residue class a + nZ with weight λ is denoted by 〈λ, a, n〉. For a finite system A = {〈λs, as, ns〉}ks = 1 of such triples, the periodic map wA(x) = ∑ns|x − as λs is called the covering map of A. Some interesting identities for those A with a fixed covering map have been known; in this paper we mainly determine all those functions f : Ω → C such that ∑ks = 1 λsf(as + nsZ) depends only on wA where Ω denotes the family of all residue classes. We also study algebraic structures related to such maps f, and periods of arithmetical functions ψ(x) = ∑ks = 1 λse2πiasx/ns and ω(x) = |{1 ≤ s ≤ k : (x + as, ns) = 1}|.

Abstract:Allcock, Carlson and Toledo defined a period map for cubic threefolds which takes values in a ball quotient of dimension 10. A theorem of Voisin implies that this is an open embedding. We determine its image and show that on the algebraic level this amounts to identification of the algebra of with an explicitly described algebra of meromorphic automorphic forms on the complex 10-ball.

Abstract:In this note, we give a simple proof of the Todorov's surjectivity result on the period map of K3 surfaces in a differential geometric setting. Our proof makes use of collasping geometry of hyperkähler 4-manifolds developped by Sun-Zhang, and does not rely on the solution to the Calabi conjecture.

Abstract:The Boolean map defined by (where ) is used in various permutations that are part of cryptographic schemes, e.g., Keccak -f (the SHA-3-permutation), ASCON (the winner of the NIST Lightweight competition), Xoodoo, Rasta and Subterranean (2.0). In this paper, we study various algebraic properties of this map. We consider (through vectorial isomorphism) as a univariate polynomial. We show that it is a power function if and only if . We furthermore compute bounds on the sparsity and degree of these univariate polynomials, and the number of different univariate representations. Secondly, we compute the number of monomials of given degree in the inverse of (if it exists). This number coincides with binomial coefficients. Lastly, we consider as a polynomial map, to study whether the same rule ( ) gives a bijection on field extensions of . We show that this is not the case for extensions whose degree is divisible by two or three. Based on these results, we conjecture that this rule does not give a bijection on any extension field of .

When $K$ is a local field, the boundedness of $f$-periods in $X(K)$ is a well studied question. We will study the same question for certain infinite extensions over ${\mathbb{Q}}_p$ under some conditions.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the monotonicity of period function of the planar generalized quadratic Lotka-Volterra systems. By taking two invariant lines as new coordinate axes and making a constant time scale change to transform the systems and simplify the first integrals, it is proved for the case without complex invariant lines that the period function is monotone increasing, which gives a positive answer to some cases of the conjecture proposed by Chicone [4].

Abstract:For certain complex projective manifolds (such as K3 surfaces and their higher dimensional analogues, the complex symplectic projective manifolds) the period map takes values in a locally symmetric variety of type IV. It is often an open embedding and in such cases it has been observed that the image is the complement of a locally symmetric divisor. We explain that phenomenon and get our hands on the complementary divisor in terms of geometric data.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study periodicities in cluster algebras. Firstly, we give a proof of Restriction and Extension Theorem for cluster algebras without coefficients. Then, we show that the periodicity of a labeled seed with coefficients from an arbitrary semifield depends only on the corresponding extended exchange matrix, which implies the independence of periodicity relative to coefficients.

Abstract:Given a smooth proper family $\phi:X\rightarrow S$, we study the (quasi)-periods of the fibers of $\phi$ as (germs of) functions on $S$. We show that they field they generate has the same algebraic closure as that given by the flag variety co-ordinates parametrizing the corresponding Hodge filtration, together with their derivatives. Moreover, in the more general context of an arbitrary flat vector bundle, we determine the transcendence degree of the function field generated by the flat coordinates of algebraic sections. Our results are inspired by and generalize work of Bertrand--Zudilin.
