Abstract:We study the rate of growth experienced by the Kronecker coefficients as we add cells to the rows and columns indexing partitions. We do this by moving to the setting of the reduced Kronecker coefficients.

Abstract:We present a study of three families of Kronecker coefficients, which we describe in terms of reduced Kronecker coefficients. This study is grounded on the generating function of the coefficients, proved by a bijection between two combinatorial objects. This study includes the connection between plane partitions and these three families of reduced Kronecker coefficients, providing us their combinatorial interpretation. As an application, we verify that the saturation hypothesis holds for our three families of reduced Kronecker coefficients. The study also includes other interpretation in terms of the quasipolynomials that govern these families. We specify the degree and the period of these quasipolynomials. Finally, the direct relation between Kronecker coefficients and reduced Kronecker coefficients allows us to give some observations about the rate of growth of the Kronecker coefficients associated to the reduced Kronecker coefficients of the study.

Abstract:An positive even number is said to be a Kronecker number if it can be written in infinitely many ways as the difference between two primes, and it is believed that all even numbers are Kronecker numbers. We will study the division and multiplication of Kronecker numbers to study the largeness of the set of Kronecker numbers. A numerical lower bound for the density Kronecker numbers among even numbers is given, and it is proved that there exists a computable constant $k$ and a set $D$ consisting of at most 720 computable Maillet numbers such that, for any integer $n$, $kn$ can be expressed as a product of a Kronecker number with a Maillet number in $D$. Meanwhile, it is proved that every positive rational number can be written as a ratio of two Kronecker numbers.

Abstract:Motivated by the Saxl conjecture and the tensor square conjecture, which states that the tensor squares of certain irreducible representations of the symmetric group contain all irreducible representations, we study the tensor squares of irreducible representations associated with square Young diagrams. We give a formula for computing Kronecker coefficients, which are indexed by two square partitions and a three-row partition, specifically one with a short second row and the smallest part equal to 1. We also prove the positivity of square Kronecker coefficients for particular families of partitions, including three-row partitions and near-hooks.

Abstract:We take a data-scientific approach to study whether Kronecker coefficients are zero or not. Motivated by principal component analysis and kernel methods, we define loadings of partitions and use them to describe a sufficient condition for Kronecker coefficients to be nonzero. The results provide new methods and perspectives for the study of these coefficients.

Abstract:We settle the question of where exactly the reduced Kronecker coefficients lie on the spectrum between the Littlewood-Richardson and Kronecker coefficients by showing that every Kronecker coefficient of the symmetric group is equal to a reduced Kronecker coefficient by an explicit construction. This implies the equivalence of a question by Stanley from 2000 and a question by Kirillov from 2004 about combinatorial interpretations of these two families of coefficients. Moreover, as a corollary, we deduce that deciding the positivity of reduced Kronecker coefficients is $NP$-hard, and computing them is $\#P$-hard under parsimonious many-one reductions.

Abstract:We conjecture unimodality for some sequences of generalized Kronecker coefficients and prove it for partitions with at most two columns. The proof is based on a hard Lefschetz property for corresponding highest weight spaces. We also study more general Lefschetz properties, show implications to a higher-dimensional analogue of the Alon–Tarsi conjecture on Latin squares and give related positivity results.

Abstract:The Kronecker product enlightens a sophisticated and esthetically pleasing algebraic structure that is a fundamental framework for diverse applications, such as signal processing, image analysis, and quantum computing. This study, proposing an iterative methodology grounded in Wirtinger calculus and polar decomposition, delves into the nearest Kronecker product problem under orthonormal constraints. The iterative approach ensures global convergence toward a local solution from any initial value. Numerical experiments are given to show the efficiency and effectiveness of our approach. Mainly, when the target matrix in the objective function is decomposable, the recovery of the original structure is achievable.

Abstract:We compute the rate of exponential growth of the free inverse monoid of rank $r$ (and hence an upper bound on the corresponding rate for all $r$-generated inverse monoids and semigroups). This turns out to be an algebraic number strictly between the obvious bounds of $2r-1$ and $2r$, tending to $2r$ as the rank tends to infinity. We also find an explicit expression for the exponential growth rate of the number of idempotents, and prove that this tends to $\sqrt{e(2k-1)}$ as $k \to \infty$.

Abstract:We introduce an infinite family of Kronecker series twisted by characters. As an application, we give a closed formula for the sum of all Hecke eigenforms on ${\Gamma}_0(N) $ multiplied by their twisted period polynomials in terms of the product of those twisted Kronecker series, when N is square free. This extends an identity of Zagier among period polynomials, Hecke eigenforms and a quotient of Jacobi theta series.

Abstract:The Kronecker coefficients are the decomposition multiplicities of the tensor product of two irreducible representations of the symmetric group. Unlike the Littlewood--Richardson coefficients, which are the analogues for the general linear group, there is no known combinatorial description of the Kronecker coefficients, and it is an NP-hard problem to decide whether a given Kronecker coefficient is zero or not. In this paper, we show that standard machine-learning algorithms such as Nearest Neighbors, Convolutional Neural Networks and Gradient Boosting Decision Trees may be trained to predict whether a given Kronecker coefficient is zero or not. Our results show that a trained machine can efficiently perform this binary classification with high accuracy ($\approx 0.98$).

Abstract:The higher Euler-Kronecker constants of a number field $K$ are the coefficients in the Laurent series expansion of the logarithmic derivative of the Dedekind zeta function about $s=1$. These coefficients are mysterious and seem to contain a lot of arithmetic information. In this article, we study these coefficients. We prove arithmetic formulas satisfied by them and prove bounds. We generalize certain results of Ihara.

Information Geometry and Asymptotics for Kronecker Covariances

Abstract:We explore the information geometry and asymptotic behaviour of estimators for Kronecker-structured covariances, in both growing-$n$ and growing-$p$ scenarios, with a focus towards examining the quadratic form or partial trace estimator proposed by Linton and Tang. It is shown that the partial trace estimator is asymptotically inefficient An explanation for this inefficiency is that the partial trace estimator does not scale sub-blocks of the sample covariance matrix optimally. To correct for this, an asymptotically efficient, rescaled partial trace estimator is proposed. Motivated by this rescaling, we introduce an orthogonal parameterization for the set of Kronecker covariances. High-dimensional consistency results using the partial trace estimator are obtained that demonstrate a blessing of dimensionality. In settings where an array has at least order three, it is shown that as the array dimensions jointly increase, it is possible to consistently estimate the Kronecker covariance matrix, even when the sample size is one.

Polynomial Quotient Rings and Kronecker Substitution for Deriving Combinatorial Identities

Abstract:We introduce a framework for generating combinatorial identities by applying Kronecker substitution to polynomial expansions within quotient rings. We apply this methodology to derive a general formula for C-recursive integer sequences, as well as explicit formulas for certain combinatorial sequences, including the Pell numbers and central binomial coefficients. We also discover an unusual representation for the real $n$-th roots of positive integers $\sqrt[n]{a}$, characterized as the limit of a modular expression. The theorems and results presented provide a theoretical basis for future research on the interconnections between Kronecker substitution, polynomial ring expansions, and their applications in combinatorial sequences and beyond.

Abstract:In this work, we study the restricted isometry property (RIP) of Kronecker-structured matrices, formed by the Kronecker product of two factor matrices. Previously, only upper and lower bounds on the restricted isometry constant (RIC) in terms of the RICs of the factor matrices were known. We derive a probabilistic measurement bound for the $s$th-order RIC. We show that the Kronecker product of two sub-Gaussian matrices satisfies RIP with high probability if the minimum number of rows among two matrices is $\mathcal{O}(s \ln \max\{N_1, N_2\})$. Here, $s$ is the sparsity level, and $N_1$ and $N_2$ are the number of columns in the matrices. We also present improved measurement bounds for the recovery of Kronecker-structured sparse vectors using Kronecker-structured measurement matrices. Finally, our analysis is further extended to the Kronecker product of more than two matrices.

Abstract:Kronecker observed that either all roots or only one root of a solvable irreducible equation of odd prime degree with integer coefficients are real. This gives a possibility to construct specific examples of equations not solvable by radicals. A relatively elementary proof without using the full power of Galois theory is due to Weber. We give a rather short proof of Kronecker's theorem with a slightly different argument from Weber's. Several modern presentations of Weber's proof contain inaccuracies, which can be traced back to an error in the original proof. We discuss this error and how it can be corrected.
