Abstract:We introduce a formalism to analyze partially defined functions between ordered sets. We show that our construction provides a uniform and conceptual approach to all the main definitions encountered in elementary real analysis including Dedekind cuts, limits and continuity.

Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to investigate Darboux rectifying curves on a smooth surface immersed in the Euclidean space. First, we discuss the component of the position vector of a Darboux rectifying curve on a smooth immersed surface under the isometry of surfaces. Next we find a sufficient condition for the conformal invariance of Darboux rectifying curve.

Abstract:This work reviews the classical Darboux theorem for symplectic, presymplectic, and cosymplectic manifolds (which are used to describe regular and singular mechanical systems), and certain cases of multisymplectic manifolds, and extends it in new ways to k-symplectic and k-cosymplectic manifolds (all these structures appear in the geometric formulation of first-order classical field theories). Moreover, we discuss the existence of Darboux theorems for classes of precosymplectic, k-presymplectic, k-precosymplectic, and premultisymplectic manifolds, which are the geometrical structures underlying some kinds of singular field theories. Approaches to Darboux theorems based on flat connections associated with geometric structures are given, while new results on polarisations for (k-)(pre)(co)symplectic structures arise.

Abstract:We characterize real elliptic differential systems whose solutions can be expressed in terms of holomorphic solutions to an associated holomorphic Pfaffian system $\mathcal H$ on a complex manifold. In particular, these elliptic systems arise as quotients by a group $G$ of the real differential system generated by the real and imaginary parts of $\mathcal H$, such that $G$ is the real form of a complex Lie group $K$ which is a symmetry group of $\mathcal H$. Subject to some mild genericity assumptions, we show that such elliptic systems are characterized by a property known as Darboux integrability. Examples discussed include first- and second-order elliptic PDE and PDE systems in the plane.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend the DC calculus introduced by Perelman on finite dimensional Alexandrov spaces with curvature bounded below. Among other things, our results allow us to define the Hessian and the Laplacian of DC functions (including distance functions as a particular instance) as a measure-valued tensor and a Radon measure respectively. We show that these objects share various properties with their analogues on smooth Riemannian manifolds.

Abstract:We use the method of Darboux coverings to discuss the invariant submanifolds of the KP equations presented as conservation laws in the space of monic Laurent series in the spectral parameter (the space of the Hamiltonian densities). We identify a special class of these submanifolds with the rational invariant submanifolds entering matrix models of two-dimensional gravity recently characterized by Dickey and Krichever. Four examples of the general procedure are provided.

Abstract:Formalization of real analysis offers a chance to rebuild traditional proofs of important theorems as unambiguous theories that can be interactively explored. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the Lebesgue Differentiation Theorem formalized in the Coq proof assistant, from which the first Fundamental Theorem of Calculus (FTC) for the Lebesgue integral is obtained as a corollary. Proving the first FTC in this way has the advantage of decomposing into loosely-coupled theories of moderate size and of independent interest that lend themselves well to incremental and collaborative development. We explain how we formalize all the topological constructs and all the standard lemmas needed to eventually relate the definitions of derivability and of Lebesgue integration of MathComp-Analysis, a formalization of analysis developed on top of the Mathematical Components library. In the course of this experiment, we substantially enrich MathComp-Analysis and even devise a new proof for Urysohn's lemma.

A Topological View on Integration and Exterior Calculus

Abstract:A construction of integration, function calculus, and exterior calculus is made, allowing for integration of unital magma valued functions against (compactified) unital magma valued measures over arbitrary topological spaces. The Riemann integral, geometric product integral, and Lebesgue integral are shown as special cases. Notions similar to chain complexes are developed to allow this form of integration to define notions of exterior derivative for differential forms, and of derivatives of functions as well. Resulting conclusions on integration, orientation, dimension, and differentiation are discussed. Applications include calculus on fractals, stochastic analysis, discrete analysis, and other novel forms of calculus.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to prove a new general result about rings of complex analytic functions. Let $\Omega$ be an arbitrary nonempty open subset of the complex plane $\mathbb C$, $\mathcal{A}(\Omega)$ be the set of holomorphic functions on $\Omega$ viewed as a Polish ring (not a Polish algebra over $\mathbb C$) in the usual compact open topology, let $R$ be a Polish ring and let $\varphi : R \to \mathcal{A}(\Omega)$ be an abstract algebraic isomorphism. The main goal of this paper is to prove Theorem 36 that $\varphi$ is a topological isomorphism. A special result of Bers is an easy corollary. Two additional items supplement these results, viz., that $B(\mathbb{D})$, the abstract ring of bounded analytic functions on the unit disk, cannot be made into a Polish ring and that $\mathcal{M}(\Omega)$, the abstract field of meromorphic functions on $\Omega$, cannot be made into a Polish field.

Abstract:In this study, we introduce Darboux slant ruled surfaces in the Euclidean 3-space which is defined by the property that the Darboux vector of orthonormel frame of ruled surface makes a constant angle with a fixed, non-zero direction. We obtain the characterizations of Darboux slant ruled surfaces regarding the conical curvature kappa and give the relations between Darboux slant ruled surfaces and some other slant ruled surfaces.

The generalized Darboux matrices with the same poles and their applications

Abstract:Darboux transformation plays a key role in constructing explicit closed-form solutions of completely integrable systems. This paper provides an algebraic construction of generalized Darboux matrices with the same poles for the $2\times2$ Lax pair, in which the coefficient matrices are polynomials of spectral parameter. The first-order monic Darboux matrix is constructed explicitly and its classification theorem is presented. Then by using the solutions of the corresponding adjoint Lax pair, the $n$-order monic Darboux matrix and its inverse, both sharing the same unique pole, are derived explicitly. Further, a theorem is proposed to describe the invariance of Darboux matrix regarding pole distributions in Darboux matrix and its inverse. Finally, a unified theorem is offered to construct formal Darboux transformation in general form. All Darboux matrices expressible as the product of $n$ first-order monic Darboux matrices can be constructed in this way. The nonlocal focusing NLS equation, the focusing NLS equation and the Kaup-Boussinesq equation are taken as examples to illustrate the application of these Darboux transformations.

First-order definability of Darmon points in number fields

Abstract:For a given number field $K$, we give a $\forall\exists\forall$-first order description of affine Darmon points over $\mathbb{P}^1_K$, and show that this can be improved to a $\forall\exists$-definition in a remarkable particular case. Darmon points, which are a geometric generalization of perfect powers, constitute a non-linear set-theoretical filtration between $K$ and its ring of $S$-integers, the latter of which can be defined with universal formulas, as has been progressively proven by Koenigsmann, Park, and Eisenträger & Morrison. We also show that our formulas are uniform with respect to all possible $S$, with a parameter-free uniformity, and we compute the number of quantifiers and a bound for the degree of the defining polynomial.

A Discrete Exterior Calculus of Bundle-valued Forms

Abstract:The discretization of Cartan's exterior calculus of differential forms has been fruitful in a variety of theoretical and practical endeavors: from computational electromagnetics to the development of Finite-Element Exterior Calculus, the development of structure-preserving numerical tools satisfying exact discrete equivalents to Stokes' theorem or the de Rham complex for the exterior derivative have found numerous applications in computational physics. However, there has been a dearth of effort in establishing a more general discrete calculus, this time for differential forms with values in vector bundles over a combinatorial manifold equipped with a connection. In this work, we propose a discretization of the exterior covariant derivative of bundle-valued differential forms. We demonstrate that our discrete operator mimics its continuous counterpart, satisfies the Bianchi identities on simplicial cells, and contrary to previous attempts at its discretization, ensures numerical convergence to its exact evaluation with mesh refinement under mild assumptions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the consequences of the fundamental theorem of calculus from an algebraic point of view. For functions with singularities, this leads to a generalized notion of evaluation. We investigate properties of such integro-differential rings and discuss many examples. We also construct corresponding integro-differential operators and provide normal forms via rewrite rules. They are then used to derive several identities and properties in a purely algebraic way, generalizing well-known results from analysis. In identities like shuffle relations for nested integrals and the Taylor formula, additional terms are obtained that take singularities into account. Another focus lies on treating basics of linear ODEs in this framework of integro-differential operators. These operators can have matrix coefficients, which allow to treat systems of arbitrary size in a unified way. In the appendix, using tensor reduction systems, we give the technical details of normal forms and prove them for operators including other functionals besides evaluation.
