Abstract:Polishing porcelain stoneware tile residues (PPR), as a kind of solid waste, will cause the expansion and deformation of ceramic bodies when it is fired at high temperatures during recycling. In order to solve the problem that the PPR is difficult to be recycled, different amounts of aluminum (Al) powder are introduced into PPR to avoid foaming during firing, and a dense block material is obtained. After adding 5 wt% Al powder to the PPR, silicon carbide (SiC) foaming in PPR is prevented, and the as-obtained samples with flexure strength of 48.0 ± 3.8 MPa and compressive strength of 180.5 ± 3.5 MPa are considered as a high-strength building materials. The Al2O3, the oxidation product of Al powder, further improves the mechanical strength of the PPR after sintering. The results show that the introduction of Al powder into PPR can inhibit foaming during firing and produce high-strength building materials, which provides a new method for the efficient reuse of the PPR.
