Abstract:We prove Malgrange's conjecture on the absence of confluence phenomena for integrable meromorphic connections. More precisely, if $ Y\to X$ is a complex-analytic fibration by smooth curves, $Z$ a hypersurface of $Y$ finite over $X$, and $\nabla$ an integrable meromorphic connection on $Y$ with poles along $Z$, then the function which attaches to {\smit x} $\in X$ the sum of the irregularities of the fiber $\nabla_{(x)}$ at the points of $Z_x$ is lower semicontinuous. The proof relies upon a study of the formal structure of integrable meromorphic connections in several variables.

Variational Principles for immersed Surfaces with $L^2$-bounded Second Fundamental Form

Abstract:In this work we present new fundamental tools for studying the variations of the Willmore functional of immersed surfaces into $R^m$. This approach gives for instance a new proof of the existence of a Willmore minimizing embedding of an arbitrary closed surface in arbitrary codimension. We explain how the same approach can solve constraint minimization problems for the Willmore functional. We show in particular that, for a given closed surface and a given conformal class for this surface, there is an immersion in $R^m$, away possibly from isolated branched points, which minimizes the Willmore energy among all possible Lipschitz immersions in $R^m$ having an $L^2-$bounded second fundamental form and realizing this conformal class. This branched immersion is either a smooth Conformal Willmore branched immersion or an isothermic branched immersion. We show that branched points do not exist whenever the minimal energy in the conformal class is less than $8\pi$ and that these immersions extend to smooth conformal Willmore embeddings or global isothermic embeddings of the surface in that case. Finally, as a by-product of our analysis, we establish that inside a compact subspace of the moduli space the following holds : weak limit of Palais Smale Willmore sequences are Conformal Willmore, that weak limits of Palais Smale sequences of Conformal Willmore are either Conformal Willmore or Global Isothermic and finally we observe also that weakly converging Palais Smale sequences of Global Isothermic Immersions are Global Isothermic. The analysis developped along the paper - in particular these last results - opens the door to the possibility of constructing new critical saddle points of the Willmore functional without or with constraints using min max methods

Abstract:This article extends classical one variable results about Euler products defined by integral valued polynomial or analytic functions to several variables. We show there exists a meromorphic continuation up to a presumed natural boundary, and also give a criterion, a la Estermann-Dahlquist, for the existence of a meromorphic extension to $\C^n.$ Among applications we deduce analytic properties of height zeta functions for toric varieties over $\Q$ and group zeta functions.

Abstract:This work belongs to the framework of inverse problems with linear model. The resolution of this type of problem consists in minimizing (possibly under constraints) a function of discrepancy between the measurements and a physical model of the considered phenomenon. We will here extend this study to divergence functions based on forms of entropy developed in the field of Statistical Physics. These various forms of entropy are based on "the deformed algebra" [9] and in particularly on the notion of "Deformed Logarithm" [15][9].

Abstract:In this survey we deal with transcendental meromorphic and entire functions. We thoroughly discuss in this context close relations between topological pressure and conformal measures for geometric potentials. For two more special classes of meromorphic functions, namely dynamically semi-regular and those in the class D$$\mathcal {D}$$ that have negative spectrum, we then also discuss, by means of the appropriate transfer (or Perron-Frobenius) operator, the corresponding thermodynamic formalism for such potentials. It holds in its full classical version. At the end of the survey we discuss hyperbolic dimension, Bowen’s Formula, and real analyticity of Hausdorff dimension.

Abstract:We present an entropy formula of Ledrappier-Young type for invariant measures (maybe non-SRB) of C(2) endomorphisms (maybe non-invertible and with singularities) on a compact manifold via their inverse limit spaces. This result may be considered as the most general form of entropy formula for a deterministic system with an invariant measure, and a preliminary step to Eckmann-Ruelle conjecture. As an important application, we have proved the exact dimensionality of ergodic measures invariant under expanding maps.

Abstract:We illustrate the use of the notion of derived recurrences introduced earlier to evaluate the algebraic entropy of self-maps of projective spaces. We in particular give an example, where a complete proof is still awaited, but where different approaches are in such perfect agreement that we can trust we get to an exact result. This is an instructive example of experimental mathematics.

Abstract:We prove that if $f\colon\mathbb{C}^p\rightarrow\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C})$ is a holomorphic mapping of maximal rank whose image lies in the Fermat hypersurface of degree $d>(n+1)\max\{n-p,1\}$, then its image is contained in a linear subspace of dimension at most $\bigg[\dfrac{n-1}{2}\bigg]$. Analog in the logarithmic case is also given. Our result strengthens a classical result of Green and provides a Nevanlinna theoretic proof for a recent result due to Etesse.

Abstract:We study several new invariants associated to a holomorphic projective structure on a Riemann surface of finite analytic type: the Lyapunov exponent of its holonomy which is of probabilistic/dynamical nature and was introduced in our previous work; the degree which measures the asymptotic covering rate of the developing map; and a family of harmonic measures on the Riemann sphere, previously introduced by Hussenot. We show that the degree and the Lyapunov exponent are related by a simple formula and give estimates for the Hausdorff dimension of the harmonic measures in terms of the Lyapunov exponent. In accordance with the famous Sullivan dictionary, this leads to a description of the space of such projective structures that is reminiscent of that of the space of polynomials in holomorphic dynamics.

Abstract:In this paper we will develop a very general approach which shows that critical relations of holomorphic maps on the complex plane unfold transversally in a positively oriented way. We will mainly illustrate this approach to obtain transversality for a wide class of one-parameter families of interval maps, for example maps with flat critical points, piecewise linear maps, maps with discontinuities but also for families of maps with complex analytic extensions such as certain polynomial-like maps.

Scanning the moduli of smooth hypersurfaces

Abstract:We study the locus of smooth hypersurfaces inside the Hilbert scheme of a smooth projective complex variety. In the spirit of scanning, we construct a map to a continuous section space of a projective bundle, and show that it induces an isomorphism in integral homology in a range of degrees growing with the ampleness of the hypersurfaces. When the ambient variety is a curve, this recovers a result of McDuff about configuration spaces. We compute the rational cohomology of the section space and exhibit a phenomenon of homological stability for hypersurfaces with first Chern class going to infinity. For simply connected varieties, the rational cohomology is shown to agree with the stable cohomology of a moduli space of hypersurfaces, with a peculiar tangential structure, as studied by Galatius and Randal-Williams.

General form of second main theorem on generalized $p$-Parabolic manifolds for arbitrary closed subschemes

Abstract:By introducing the notion of distributive constant for a family of closed subschemes, we establish a general form of the second main theorem for algebraic nondegenerate meromorphic mappings from a generalized $p$-Parabolic manifold into a projective variety with arbitrary families of closed subschemes. As its consequence, we give a second main theorem for such meromorphic mappings intersecting arbitrary hypersurfaces with an explicitly truncation level for the counting functions.

Abstract:Since the celebrated theorem of Lax and Wendroff, we know a necessary condition that any numerical scheme for hyperbolic problem should satisfy: it should be written in flux form. A variant can also be formulated for the entropy. Even though some schemes, as for example those using continuous finite element, do not formally cast into this framework, it is a very convenient one. In this paper, we revisit this, introduce a different notion of local conservation which contains the previous one in one space dimension, and explore its consequences. This gives a more flexible framework that allows to get, systematically, entropy stable schemes, entropy dissipative ones, or accomodate more constraints. In particular, we can show that continuous finite element method can be rewritten in the finite volume framework, and all the quantities involved are explicitly computable. We end by presenting the only counter example we are aware of, i.e a scheme that seems not to be rewritten as a finite volume scheme.
