Abstract:Let $f$ be an holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^k$. We construct by using coding techniques a class of ergodic measures as limits of non-uniform probability measures on preimages of points. We show that they have large metric entropy, close to $\log d^k$. We establish for them strong stochastic properties and prove the positivity of their Lyapunov exponents. Since they have large entropy, those measures are supported in the support of the maximal entropy measure of $f$. They in particular provide lower bounds for the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set.

Abstract:We extend the Malliavin theory for $L^2$-functionals on product probability spaces that has recently been developed by Decreusefond and Halconruy (2019) and by Duerinckx (2021), by characterizing the domains and investigating the actions of the three Malliavin operators in terms of the infinite Hoeffding decomposition in $L^2$, which we identify as the natural analogue of the famous Wiener-Itô chaos decomposition on Gaussian and Poisson spaces. We further combine this theory with Stein's method for normal approximation in order to provide three different types of abstract Berry-Esseen and Wasserstein bounds: a) Malliavin-Stein bounds involving the Malliavin gradient $D$ and the pseudo-inverse of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck generator $L$, b) bounds featuring the carré-du-champ operator $\Gamma$ and c) bounds making use of a Clark-Ocone type integration-by-parts formula. To demonstrate the flexibility of these abstract bounds, we derive quantitative central limit theorems for the number of monochromatic edges in a uniform random coloring of a graph sequence as well as for random sums and prove an infinite version of the quantitative de Jong CLT that has recently been proved by G. Peccati and the author (2017) and by the author (2023). As a further theoretical application, we deduce new abstract Berry-Esseen and Wasserstein bounds for functionals of a general independent Rademacher sequence.

Abstract:We present an entropy formula of Ledrappier-Young type for invariant measures (maybe non-SRB) of C(2) endomorphisms (maybe non-invertible and with singularities) on a compact manifold via their inverse limit spaces. This result may be considered as the most general form of entropy formula for a deterministic system with an invariant measure, and a preliminary step to Eckmann-Ruelle conjecture. As an important application, we have proved the exact dimensionality of ergodic measures invariant under expanding maps.

Abstract:We show that the orbit equivalence relation of a free action of a locally compact group is hyperfinite (à la Connes-Feldman-Weiss) precisely when it is 'hypercompact'. This implies an uncountable version of the Ornstein-Weiss Theorem and that every locally compact group admitting a hypercompact probability preserving free action is amenable. We also establish an uncountable version of Danilenko's Random Ratio Ergodic Theorem. From this we deduce the 'Hopf dichotomy' for many nonsingular Bernoulli actions.

Abstract:LLet $f$ be a holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb P^ 2$ of degree $d \geq 2$. We estimate the local directional dimensions of closed positive currents $S$ with respect to ergodic dilating measures $\nu$. We infer several applications. The first one shows that the currents $S$ containing a measure of entropy $h\_\nu > \log d$ have a directional dimension $>2$, which answers a question by de Thélin-Vigny. The second application asserts that the Dujardin's semi-extremal endomorphisms are close to suspensions of one-dimensional Lattès maps. Finally, we obtain an upper bound for the dimension of the equilibrium measure, towards the formula conjectured by Binder-DeMarco.

Abstract:Nous demontrons qu'une sous-variete reelle, compacte, orientee et lisse \Gamma de dimension $2p-1\geq 3$ de CP^n est le bord d'un sous-ensemble analytique s'il existe une variete reelle $V\subset G(n-p+2,n+1)$ de codimension 1 satisfaisant les conditions suivantes pour tout $\nu\in V$ 1. La reunion $\bigcup_{\nu\in V} P^{n-p+1}_\nu$ recouvre un ouvert dense de \Gamma. 2. Le (n-p+1)-plan $P^{n-p+1}_\nu$ intersecte \Gamma transversalement. 3. $\Gamma\cap P^{n-p+1}_\nu$ est le bord d'une surface de Riemann dans $P^{n-p+1}_\nu$. 4. Aucun ouvert non vide de $\Gamma\cap P^{n-p+1}_\nu$ n'est reel analytique. Pour la preuve, nous utilisons et demontrons le resultat suivant: pour toute surface de Riemann a bord rectifiable (eventuellement reductible et singuliere) S d'une variete complexe, $\bar S$ admet un systeme fondamental de voisinages de Stein. Il existe \Gamma reelle algebrique verifiant 1-3, qui n'est pas bord d'un sous-ensemble analytique.

Abstract:Let $\cal M$ be a semi-finite von Neumann algebra equipped with a distinguished faithful, normal, semi-finite trace $\tau$. We introduce the notion of equi-integrability in non-commutative spaces and show that if a rearrangement invariant quasi-Banach function space $E$ on the positive semi-axis is $\alpha$-convex with constant 1 and satisfies a non-trivial lower $q$-estimate with constant 1, then the corresponding non-commutative space of measurable operators $E({\cal M}, \tau)$ has the following property: every bounded sequence in $E({\cal M}, \tau)$ has a subsequence that splits into a $E$-equi-integrable sequence and a sequence with pairwise disjoint projection supports. This result extends the well known Kadec-Pe\l czy\'nski subsequence decomposition for Banach lattices to non-commutative spaces. As applications, we prove that for $1\leq p <\infty$, every subspace of $L^p(\cal M, \tau)$ either contains almost isometric copies of $\ell^p$ or is strongly embedded in $L^p(\cal M, \tau)$.

Abstract:The space of surfaces $\mathbf{X}: [0,1]^2 \to \mathbb{R}^d$ is equipped with natural horizontal and vertical concatenation operations, and we study representations of surfaces which preserve this algebraic structure. The framework of higher category theory allows us to formalize this notion in terms of a functor between double groupoids. We construct such functors by generalizing the classical concept of the path-ordered exponential as a nonabelian path integral. This generalization yields a notion of nonabelian surface integration, and is known in higher gauge theory as surface holonomy (or higher parallel transport). We extend these constructions from smooth surfaces to bounded controlled $p$-variation surfaces in the Young regime, with $p < 2$. By focusing on surface holonomy valued in higher generalizations of the classical matrix groups, called matrix double groups, we obtain explicit computations for piecewise linear approximations. Furthermore, we generalize the nonabelian Stokes' and Fubini theorems to the Young regime. Finally, we use these matrix surface holonomy functors to construct characteristic functions for random surfaces such as fractional Brownian sheets with Hurst parameter $h> \frac{1}{2}$.

Abstract:We consider the range of random analytic functions with finite radius of convergence. We show that any unbounded random Taylor series with rotationally invariant coefficients has dense image in the plane. We moreover show that if in addition the coefficients are complex Gaussian with sufficiently regular variances, then the image is the whole complex plane. We do this by exploiting an approximate connection between the coverage problem and spatial branching processes. This answers a long-standing open question of J.-P. Kahane, with sufficient regularity.

Abstract:Consider a Berkovich space over a good Banach ring and the relative projective line over it. (It is a space whose fibers are projective lines over different complete valued fields.) For each polarized endomorphism of this line, we prove that the family of equilibrium measures associated to the restrictions of the endomorphism to the fibers is continuous. The result holds, in particular, when the Banach ring is a complete valued field, a hybrid field, a complete discrete valuation ring, or the ring of integers of a number field.

Abstract:In a previous article, given a finite-dimensional real vector space $V$ and a probability measure $\mu$ on $\operatorname{PGL}(V)$ with finite first moment, we gave a description of all $\mu$-stationary probability measures on the projective space $\operatorname{P}(V)$ in the non-critical (or Lyapunov dominated) case. In the current article, we complete the analysis by providing a full description of the more subtle critical case. Our results demonstrate an algebraic rigidity in this situation. Combining our results with those of Furstenberg--Kifer ('83), Guivarch--Raugi ('07) $\&$ Benoist--Quint ('14), we deduce a classification of all stationary probability measures on the projective space for i.i.d random matrix products with finite first moment without any algebraic assumption.

Abstract:We study the long-term behavior of the iteration of a random map consisting of Lipschitz transformations on a compact metric space, independently and randomly selected according to a fixed probability measure. Such a random map is said to be \emph{mostly contracting} if all Lyapunov exponents associated with stationary measures are negative. This requires introducing the notion of (maximal) Lyapunov exponent in this general context of Lipschitz transformations on compact metric spaces. We show that this class is open with respect to the appropriate topology and satisfies the strong law of large numbers for non-uniquely ergodic systems, the limit theorem for the law of random iterations, the global Palis' conjecture, and that the associated annealed Koopman operator is quasi-compact. This implies many statistical properties such as central limit theorems, large deviations, statistical stability, and the continuity and Hölder continuity of Lyapunov exponents. Examples from this class of random maps include random products of circle $C^1$ diffeomorphisms, interval $C^1$ diffeomorphisms onto their images, and $C^1$ diffeomorphisms of a Cantor set on a line, all considered under the assumption of no common invariant measure. This class also includes projective actions of locally constant linear cocycles under the assumptions of simplicity of the first Lyapunov exponent and some kind of irreducibility. One of the main tools to prove the above results is the generalization of Kingman's subadditive ergodic theorem and the uniform Kingman's subadditive ergodic theorem for general Markov operators. These results are of independent interest, as they may have broad applications in other contexts.

Abstract:A random vector whose norm and overlap (inner product with an independent copy) concentrates is shown to have random low-dimensional projections that are approximately random Gaussians. Conversely, asymptotically random Gaussian projections imply these hypotheses. This extends and unites several existing results in geometric functional analysis and spin glasses. Applications include a large-system characterization of the joint law of cavity fields in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model.

Abstract:Bifurcations within holomorphic families of rational maps on the Riemann sphere are well understood since the works of Mañé-Sad-Sullivan and, independently, Lyubich in the eighties. Their techniques are however totally inoperant in a higher dimensional setting and one has therefore to adopt a different approach. For holomorphic families of endomorphisms on P this has been done in a joint work with Fabrizio Bianchi and Christophe Dupont. Our point of view on bifurcation phenomena combines ergodic and pluripotential-theoretic tools. In particular the Lyapunov exponents of the maximal entropy measure play an important role.
