Abstract:In this article, we continue our study of 'Frobenius structures' and symplectic spectral invariants in the context of symplectic spinors. By studying the case of $C^1$-small Hamiltonian mappings on symplectic manifolds $M$ admitting a metaplectic structure and a parallel $\hat O(n)$-reduction of its metaplectic frame bundle we derive how the construction of 'singularly rigid' resp. 'self-dual' pairs of irreducible Frobenius structures associated to this Hamiltonian mapping $\Phi$ leads to a Hopf-algebra-type structure on the set of irreducible Frobenius structures. We then generalize this construction and define abstractly conditions under which 'dual pairs' associated to a given $C^1$-small Hamiltonian mapping emerge, these dual pairs are essentially pairs $(s_1, J_1), (s_2, J_2)$ of closed sections of the cotangent bundle $T^*M$ and (in general singular) compatible almost complex structures on $M$ satisfying certain integrability conditions involving a Koszul bracket. In the second part of this paper, we translate these characterizing conditions for general 'dual pairs' of Frobenius structures associated to a $C^1$-small Hamiltonian system into the notion of matrix factorization. We propose an algebraic setting involving modules over certain fractional ideals of function rings on $M$ so that the set of 'dual pairs' in the above sense and the set of matrix factorizations associated to these modules stand in bijective relation. We prove, in the real-analytic case, a Riemann Roch-type theorem relating a certain Euler characteristic arising from a given matrix factorization in the above sense to (integral) cohomological data on $M$ using Cheeger-Simons-type differential characters, derived from a given pair $(s_1, J_1), (s_2, J_2)$. We propose extensions of these techniques to the case of 'geodesic convexity-smallness' of $\Phi$ and to the case of general Hamiltonian systems on $M$.

Even Stiefel-Whitney invariants for anti-hermitian quaternionic forms

Abstract:We extend all cohomological invariants of similarity classes of quadratic forms to anti-hermitian forms over a quaternion algebra. This uses the fact that such invariants can be lifted to Witt invariants, which can be described as combinations of $\lambda$-operations, and those $\lambda$-operations have recently been extended to hermitian forms over algebras with involution. In the article we present a detailed combinatoric description of invariants of quadratic forms which are partially diagonalized, and show how this combinatorics extend to anti-hermitian quaternionic forms. The methods developped here are inteded to be later used for general algebras with involution.

The equivalence classes of this classification problem are characterized by the so-called central invariants. In the last section, two examples are given to illuminate the applications of central invariants in cohomological field theories.

Abstract:We generalize the "miraculous cancellation" formulas of Alvarez-Gaumé, Witten and Kefeng Liu to a twisted version where an extra complex line bundle is involved. We also apply our result to discuss intrinsic relations between the higher dimensional Rokhlin type congruence formulas of Ochanine [O1], Finashin [F] and Zhang [Z1, 2]. In particular, an analytic proof of the Finashin congruence formula is given.

Abstract:We give a general surgery formula for the Casson-Walker-Lescop invariant of closed 3-manifolds, seen as the leading term of the LMO invariant, in a purely diagrammatic and combinatorial way. This provides a new viewpoint on a formula established by C. Lescop for her extension of the Walker invariant. A central ingredient in our proof is an explicit identification of the coefficients of the Conway polynomial as combinations of coefficients in the Kontsevich integral. This latter result relies on general \lq factorization formulas\rq\, for the Kontsevich integral coefficients.

Feynman symmetries of the Martin and $c_2$ invariants of regular graphs

Abstract:For every regular graph, we define a sequence of integers, using the recursion of the Martin polynomial. This sequence counts spanning tree partitions and constitutes the diagonal coefficients of powers of the Kirchhoff polynomial. We prove that this sequence respects all known symmetries of Feynman period integrals in quantum field theory. We show that other quantities with this property, the $c_2$ invariant and the extended graph permanent, are essentially determined by our new sequence. This proves the completion conjecture for the $c_2$ invariant at all primes, and also that it is fixed under twists. We conjecture that our invariant is perfect: Two Feynman periods are equal, if and only if, their Martin sequences are equal.

Abstract:Spectral invariants are quantitative measurements in symplectic topology coming from Floer homology theory. We study their dependence on the choice of coefficients in the context of Hamiltonian Floer homology. We discover phenomena in this setting which hold for $\mathbb{Z}$-coefficients and fail for all field coefficients. For example, we prove that the spectral norm, an important metric derived from spectral invariants, is unbounded over $\mathbb{Z}$ for complex projective spaces, while it is uniformly bounded over all fields. This allows us to answer a symplectic version of a question of Hingston, originally asked in the setting of the energy functional on the loop space. We also provide applications to Hamiltonian dynamics and Hofer's geometry.

Hamiltonian structure of isomonodromic deformation dynamics in linear systems of PDE's

Abstract:The Hamiltonian approach to isomonodromic deformation systems for generic rational covariant derivative operators on the Riemann sphere, having any matrix dimension $r$ and any number of isolated singularities of arbitrary Poincaré rank, is derived using the split classical rational $R$-matrix Poisson bracket structure on the dual space $L^*{\frak gl}(r)$ of the loop algebra $L{\frak gl}(r)$. Nonautonomous isomonodromic counterparts of isospectral systems are obtained by identifying the deformation parameters as Casimir elements on the phase space. These are shown to coincide with the higher Birkhoff invariants determining the local asymptotics near to irregular singular points, together with the pole loci. They appear as the negative power coefficients in the principal part of the Laurent expansion of the fundamental meromorphic differential on the associated spectral curve, while the corresponding dual spectral invariant Hamiltonians appear as the "mirror image" positive power terms in the analytic part. Infinitesimal isomonodromic deformations are generated by the sum of the Hamiltonian vector field and an explicit derivative vector field that is transversal to the symplectic foliation.

Abstract:We address the general problem of studying linear stability and bifurcations of periodic orbits for Hamiltonian systems of arbitrary degrees of freedom. We study the topology of the GIT sequence introduced by the first author and Urs Frauenfelder in [7], in arbitrary dimension. In particular, we note that the combinatorics encoding the linear stability of periodic orbits is governed by a quotient of the associahedron. Our approach gives a topological/combinatorial proof of the classical Krein–Moser theorem, and refines it for the case of symmetric orbits.

Abstract:The most natural first-order PDE's to be imposed on a Cayley 4-form in eight dimensions is the condition that it is closed. As is known, this implies integrability of the Spin(7) structure defined by the Cayley form, as well as Ricci-flatness of the associated metric. We address the question as to what the most natural second-order in derivatives set of conditions is. We start by constructing the most general diffeomorphism invariant second order in derivatives Lagrangian that is quadratic in the perturbations of the Cayley form. We find that there is a one-parameter family of such Lagrangians. We then describe a non-linear completion of the linear story. To this end, we parametrise the intrinsic torsion of a Spin(7) structure by a 3-form, and show that this 3-form is completely determined by the exterior derivative of the Cayley form. We construct an action functional, which depends on the Cayley 4-form and and auxiliary 3-form as independent variables. There is a unique functional whose Euler-Lagrange equation for the auxiliary 3-form states that it is equal to the torsion 3-form. There is, however, a more general one-parameter family of functionals that can be constructed, and we show how the linearisation of these functionals reproduces the linear story. For any member of our family of theories, the Euler-Lagrange equations are written only using the operator of exterior differentiation of forms, and do not require the knowledge of the metric-compatible Levi-Civita connection. Geometrically, there is a preferred member in the family of Lagrangians, and we propose that its Euler-Lagrange equations are the most natural second-order equations to be satisfied by Cayley forms. Our construction also leads to a natural geometric flow in the space of Cayley forms, defined as the gradient flow of our action functional.

Abstract:This paper explores Iwasawa theory from a graph theoretic perspective, focusing on the algebraic and combinatorial properties of Cayley graphs. Using representation theory, we analyze Iwasawa-theoretic invariants within $\mathbb{Z}_\ell$-towers of Cayley graphs, revealing connections between graph theory, number theory, and group theory. Key results include the factorization of associated Iwasawa polynomials and the decomposition of $\mu$- and $\lambda$-invariants. Additionally, we apply these insights to complete graphs, establishing conditions under which these invariants vanish.

Abstract:For a subgroup $H$ of a reductive group $G$, let $\mathfrak m\subset \mathfrak g^*$ be the cotangent space of $eH\in G/H$. The linear action $(H:\mathfrak m)$ is the coisotropy representation. It is known that the complexity and rank of $G/H$ (denoted $c$ and $r$, respectively) are encoded in properties of $(H:\mathfrak m)$. We complement existing results on $c$, $r$, and $(H:\mathfrak m)$, especially for quasiaffine varieties $G/H$. If the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ is finitely generated, then we establish a connection between the nullcones in $\mathfrak m$ and $\mathfrak g^*$. Two other topics considered are (i) a relationship between varieties $G/H$ of complexity at most 1 and the homological dimension of the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and (ii) the Poisson structure of $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and Poisson-commutative subalgebras in $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ with maximal transcendence degree.

The Cayley Transform on Representations

Abstract:The classical Cayley transform is a birational map between a quadratic matrix group and its Lie algebra, which was first discovered by Cayley in 1846. Because of its essential role in both pure and applied mathematics, the classical Cayley transform has been generalized from various perspectives. This paper is concerned with a representation theoretic generalization of the classical Cayley transform. The idea underlying this work is that the applicability of the classical Cayley transform heavily depends on how the Lie group is represented. The goal is to characterize irreducible representations of a Lie group, to which the classical Cayley transform is applicable. To this end, we first establish criteria of the applicability for a general Lie group. If the group is semisimple, we further obtain a geometric condition on the weight diagram of such representations. Lastly, we provide a complete classification for classical complex simple Lie groups and their compact real forms. Except for the previously known examples, spin representations of $\mathrm{Spin}(8)$ are the only ones on our list.

Abstract:We study the variation of $\mu$-invariants of modular forms in a cuspidal Hida family in the case that the family intersects an Eisenstein family. We allow for intersections that occur because of "trivial zeros" (that is, because $p$ divides an Euler factor) as in Mazur's Eisenstein ideal paper, and pay special attention to the case of the 5-adic family passing through the elliptic curve $X_0(11)$.
