Abstract:In this article we present solutions of certain polynomial equations in periodic nested radicals. We also present a new way to solve the general tetranomial equation with new functions. As application of these new functions we solve the general sextic equation.

Abstract:We present a method for the solution of polynomial equations. We do not intend to present one more method among several others, because today there are many excellent methods. Our main aim is educational. Here we attempt to present a method with elementary tools in order to be understood and useful by students and educators. For this reason, we provide a self contained approach. Our method is a variation of the well known method of resultant, that has its origin back to Euler. Our goal, in the present paper, is in the spirit of calculus and secondary school mathematics. An extensive discussion of the theory of zeros of polynomials and extremal problems for polynomials the reader can find in the books 10 and 13 in our references.
Solving parametric radical equations with depth 2 rigorously using the restriction set method

Abstract:We review the history and previous literature on radical equations and present the rigorous solution theory for radical equations of depth 2, continuing a previous study of radical equations of depth 1. Radical equations of depth 2 are equations where the unknown variable appears under at least one square root and where two steps are needed to eliminate all radicals appearing in the equation. We state and prove theorems for all three equation forms with depth 2 that give the solution set of all real-valued solutions. The theorems are shown via the restriction set method that uses inequality restrictions to decide whether to accept or reject candidate solutions. We distinguish between formal solutions that satisfy the original equation in a formal sense, where we allow some radicals to evaluate to imaginary numbers during verification, and strong solutions, where all radicals evaluate to real numbers during verification. Our theorems explicitly identify the set of all formal solutions and the set of all strong solutions for each equation form. The theory underlying radical equations with depth 2 is richer and more interesting than the theory governing radical equations with depth 1, and some aspects of the theory are not intuitively obvious. It is illustrated with examples of parametric radical equations.

Abstract:Finding all roots of a polynomial is basic and important work for numerical and algebraic calculation. We develop a method that only simple root is needed computing, either the roots are real or complex, Firstly, a Parallel algorithm for computing the greatest common factor of two polynomials is put forward; Secondly, a standard decomposing for a polynomial is given. Lastly, a method for converting the complex roots of a polynomial to the real roots of another polynomials is obtained.

Abstract:Srinivasa Ramanujan posed a problem on infinite nested radical of the square root in the Journal of Indian Mathematical Society in 1911. He had generated the problem years before in the form of an example illustrating a more general theorem. Of course, how we would figure the solution out without Ramanujan theorem was scarcely obvious. Generation of infinite nested radicals, the roots being of higher order i.e. proceeding from the cube roots to the nth root as well as their evaluation may seem to be somewhat complex. For this purpose a general solution in the form of a theorem needs to be provided whereby symmetric patterns of infinite nested radicals of any order of roots may be evaluated including that of Ramanujan involving square root. In our work, we have rendered the required solution.

Abstract:Many authors have studied various functional equations of forms patterned on the equation expressed as ga2+b2=g(a)+g(b), which can be considered, e.g., for real functions. Such equations are usually referred to as radical functional equations or of the radical type. Authors mainly study the so-called Ulam stability of such equations, i.e., they investigate how much the mappings satisfying the equations approximately (in a sense) differ from the exact solutions of these equations. Quite often, information about the solutions of these equations is also provided, but unfortunately, sometimes, such information is given in a misleading or incomplete way. It seems, therefore, that there is a need for a publication containing simple descriptions of such solutions (with appropriate examples), which would help in easy correction of such information and avoidance of similar problems for future authors. This is the main motivation for this expository paper. We present a general approach to the topic and consider two general forms of such equations. Moreover, the results presented in this paper show significant symmetry between the solutions of numerous functional equations and the solutions of equations of the radical type that correspond to them. To make this publication accessible to a wider audience, we omit various related information, avoid advanced generalizations, and present several simple examples.

Abstract:In this paper we present an algorithmic procedure that transforms, if possible, a given system of ordinary or partial differential equations with radical dependencies in the unknown function and its derivatives into a system with polynomial relations among them by means of a rational change of variables. The solutions of the given equation and its transformation correspond one-to-one. This work can be seen as a generalization of previous work on reparametrization of ODEs and PDEs with radical coefficients.

Abstract:This paper is purely expository. We present short elementary proofs of * the Gauss Theorem on constructibility of regular polygons; * the existence of a cubic equation unsolvable in real radicals; * the existence of a quintic equation unsolvable in complex radicals (Galois Theorem). The statements of these celebrated results are simple and well-known. However, their proofs given in most textbooks rely upon much unmotivated material and are far from being economic. We do not use the terms `Galois group' or even `group'. The paper is accessible for students familiar with polynomials and complex numbers, and could be an interesting easy reading for professional mathematicians. Short English version is followed by an extended Russian version where before presenting the proofs we illustrate the main ideas by sequences of problems with hints or solutions.
How to split a tera-polynomial

Abstract:This article presents a new algorithm to compute all the roots of two families of polynomials that are of interest for the Mandelbrot set $\mathcal{M}$ : the roots of those polynomials are respectively the parameters $c\in\mathcal{M}$ associated with periodic critical dynamics for $f_c(z)=z^2+c$ (hyperbolic centers) or with pre-periodic dynamics (Misiurewicz-Thurston parameters). The algorithm is based on the computation of discrete level lines that provide excellent starting points for the Newton method. In practice, we observe that these polynomials can be split in linear time of the degree. This article is paired with a code library [Mandel] that implements this algorithm. Using this library and about 723 000 core-hours on the HPC center Roméo (Reims), we have successfully found all hyperbolic centers of period $\leq 41$ and all Misiurewicz-Thurston parameters whose period and pre-period sum to $\leq 35$. Concretely, this task involves splitting a tera-polynomial, i.e. a polynomial of degree $\sim10^{12}$, which is orders of magnitude ahead of the previous state of the art. It also involves dealing with the certifiability of our numerical results, which is an issue that we address in detail, both mathematically and along the production chain. The certified database is available to the scientific community. For the smaller periods that can be represented using only hardware arithmetic (floating points FP80), the implementation of our algorithm can split the corresponding polynomials of degree $\sim10^{9}$ in less than one day-core. We complement these benchmarks with a statistical analysis of the separation of the roots, which confirms that no other polynomial in these families can be split without using higher precision arithmetic.

Abstract:We examine hypergeometric functions in the finite field, p-adic and classical settings. In each setting, we prove a formula which splits the hypergeometric function into a sum of lower order functions whose arguments differ by roots of unity. We provide multiple applications of these results, including new reduction and summation formulas for finite field hypergeometric functions, along with classical analogues; evaluations of special values of these functions which apply in both the finite field and p-adic settings; and new relations to Fourier coefficients of modular forms.

Abstract:In this paper we examine the diophantine equation $x^k-y^k=x-y$ where $k$ is a positive integer $\geq 2$, and consider its applications. While the complete solution of the equation $x^k-y^k=x-y$ in positive rational numbers is already known when $k=2$ or $3$, till now only one numerical solution of the equation in positive rational numbers has been published when $k=4$, and no nontrivial solution is known when $k \geq 5$. We describe a method of generating infinitely many positive rational solutions of the equation when $k=4$. We use the positive rational solutions of the equation with $k=2,\, 3$ or 4 to produce numerical curios involving square roots, cube roots and fourth roots, and as another application of these solutions, we show how to construct examples of geometric series with an interesting property.

Abstract:We present a new formula for pi involving nested radicals with rapid convergence. This formula is based on the arctangent function identity with argument $x=\sqrt{2-{{a}_{k-1}}}/{{a}_{k}}$, where \[ {{a}_{k}}=\underbrace{\sqrt{2+\sqrt{2+\sqrt{2+\cdots +\sqrt{2}}}}}_{k\,\,\text{square}\,\,\text{roots}} \] is a nested radical consisting of $k$ square roots. The computational test we performed reveals that the proposed formula for pi provides a significant improvement in accuracy as the integer $k$ increases.

Abstract:We show that for any polynomial $F(X,Y_0,Y_1,Y_2) \in \mathbb{C}[X, Y_0, Y_1, Y_2]$, the equation $F(z,j(z),j'(z),j''(z))=0$ has a Zariski dense set of solutions in the hypersurface $F(X,Y_0,Y_1,Y_2)=0$, unless $F$ is in $\mathbb{C}[X]$ or it is divisible by $Y_0$, $Y_0-1728$, or $Y_1$. Our methods establish criteria for finding solutions to more general equations involving periodic functions. Furthermore, they produce a qualitative description of the distribution of these solutions.

Abstract:Historically in math literature there are instances where solutions have been arrived at by different authors for equation 1 for six powers on both side of equation, for different degree 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. See reference number 1, by A. Bremner & J. Delorme and reference number 10, by Tito Piezas. The difference is that this paper has done systematic analysis of equation 1. While numerical solutions for equation 1, is available on Wolfram math website, search for parametric solutions to equation 1, in various publications for all degree 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 did not yield results. The authors of this paper have selected six terms on each side of equation 1, since the difficulty of the problem increases every time a term is deleted on each side of equation 1. The authors have provided parametric solutions for equation 1, for degree 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 and for degree 7, 8 & 9 solutions using elliptical curve method has been provided. Also we would like to mention that solutions for degree 7, 8 & 9 using elliptic curve method has infinite numerical solutions. On unsolvable equations of prime degree

Abstract:Kronecker observed that either all roots or only one root of a solvable irreducible equation of odd prime degree with integer coefficients are real. This gives a possibility to construct specific examples of equations not solvable by radicals. A relatively elementary proof without using the full power of Galois theory is due to Weber. We give a rather short proof of Kronecker's theorem with a slightly different argument from Weber's. Several modern presentations of Weber's proof contain inaccuracies, which can be traced back to an error in the original proof. We discuss this error and how it can be corrected.

Abstract:The parabolic trigonometric functions have recently been introduced as an intermediate step between circular and hyperbolic functions. They have been shown to be expressible in terms of irrational functions, linked to the solution of third degree algebraic equations. We show the link of the parabolic trigonometric functions with the Chebyshev radicals and also prove that further generalized forms of trigonometric functions, providing the natural solutions of the quintic algebraic equation, can be defined. We also discuss the link of this family of functions with the modular elliptic functions. 1

Abstract:Mixed trigonometric-polynomials (MTPs) are functions of the form f(x,sin⁡x,cos⁡x) where f is a trivariate polynomial with rational coefficients, and the argument x ranges over the reals. In this paper, an algorithm “isolating” all the real roots of an MTP is provided and implemented. It automatically divides the real roots into two parts: one consists of finitely many roots in an interval [μ−,μ+] while the other consists of countably many roots in R﹨[μ−,μ+]. For the roots in [μ−,μ+], the algorithm returns isolating intervals and corresponding multiplicities while for those greater than μ+, it returns finitely many mutually disjoint small intervals Ii⊂[−π,π], integers ci>0 and multisets of root multiplicity {mj,i}j=1ci such that any root >μ+ is in the set (∪i∪k∈N(Ii+2kπ)) and any interval Ii+2kπ⊂(μ+,∞) contains exactly ci distinct roots with multiplicities m1,i,...,mci,i, respectively. The efficiency of the algorithm is shown by experiments. The method used to isolate the roots in [μ−,μ+] is applicable to any other bounded interval as well. The algorithm takes advantages of the weak Fourier sequence technique and deals with the intervals period-by-period without scaling the coordinate so to keep the length of the sequence short. The new approaches can easily be modified to decide whether there is any root, or whether there are infinitely many roots in unbounded intervals of the form (−∞,a) or (a,∞) with a∈Q.

Abstract:Under certain natural sufficient conditions on the sequence of uniformly bounded closed sets $E_k\subset\mathbb{R}$ of admissible coefficients, we construct a polynomial $P_n(x)=1+\sum_{k=1}^n\varepsilon_k x^k$, $\varepsilon_k\in E_k$, with at least $c\sqrt{n}$ distinct roots in $[0,1]$, which matches the classical upper bound up to the value of the constant $c>0$. Our sufficient conditions cover the Littlewood ($E_k=\{-1,1\}$) and Newman ($E_k=\{0,(-1)^k\}$) polynomials and are also necessary for the existence of such polynomials with arbitrarily many roots in the case when the sequence $E_k$ is periodic.

Abstract:According to the Abel-Ruffini theorem [1] and Galois theory [2], there is no solution in finite radicals to the general quintic equation. This article takes a different approach and proposes a new method to solve the quintic by iteration of radicals. But, the most intriguing result is an accurate algebraic formula for absolute and relative root approximation: |formula - root| < 0.00432 and |formula/root - 1| < 0.0251. We then expand some of the geometric properties discussed to construct a trigonometric algorithm that derives all roots.
