Abstract:We prove that generic complete intersections associated to multiple mirror nef-partitions are all birational. This result solves a conjecture by Batyrev and Nill under some mild assumptions.

Mirror Symmetry for Special Nilpotent Orbit Closures

Abstract:Motivated by geometric Langlands, we initiate a program to study the mirror symmetry between nilpotent orbit closures of a semisimple Lie algebra and those of its Langlands dual. The most interesting case is $B_n$ via $C_n$. Classically, there is a famous Springer duality between special orbits. Therefore, it is natural to speculate that the mirror symmetry we seek may coincide with Springer duality in the context of special orbits. Unfortunately, such a naive statement fails. To remedy the situation, we propose a conjecture which asserts the mirror symmetry for certain parabolic/induced covers of special orbits. Then, we prove the conjecture for Richardson orbits and obtain certain partial results in general. In the process, we reveal some very interesting and yet subtle structures of these finite covers, which are related to Lusztig's canonical quotients of special nilpotent orbits. For example, there is a mysterious asymmetry in the footprint or range of degrees of these finite covers. Finally, we provide two examples to show that the mirror symmetry fails outside the footprint.
On the existence of nef-partitions for smooth well-formed Fano weighted complete intersections

Abstract:A nef-partition for a weighted complete intersection is a combinatorial structure on its weights and degrees which is important for Mirror Symmetry. It is known that nef-partitions exist for smooth well-formed Fano weighted complete intersections of small dimension or codimension, and that in these cases they are strong in the sense that they can be realized as fibers of morphisms of weighted simplicial complexes, i.e., finite abstract simplicial complexes equipped with a weight function. It was conjectured that this approach can be extended to the case of arbitrary codimension. We show that in the case of any codimension greater than 3 strong nef-partitions may not exist, and provide a sufficient combinatorial condition for existence of a strong nef-partition in terms of weights. We also show that the combinatorics of smooth well-formed weighted complete intersections can be arbitrarily complicated from the point of view of simplicial geometry.

Abstract:We prove one direction of homological mirror symmetry for complete intersections in algebraic tori, in all dimensions. The mirror geometry is not a space but a LG model, i.e. a pair given by a space and a regular function. We show that the Fukaya category of the complete intersection is equivalent to the category of matrix factorizations of the LG pair. Our approach yields new results also in the hypersurface setting, which was treated earlier by Gammage and Shende. Our argument depends on breaking down the complete intersection into smaller more manageable pieces, i.e. finite covers of products of higher dimensional pairs-of-pants, thus implementing a program first suggested by Seidel.

Abstract:We prove birational superrigidity of generic Fano fiber spaces $V/{\mathbb P}^1$, the fibers of which are Fano complete intersections of index 1 and dimension $M$ in ${\mathbb P}^{M+k}$, provided that $M\geq 2k+1$. The proof combines the traditional quadratic techniques of the method of maximal singularities with the linear techniques based on the connectedness principle of Shokurov and Koll\' ar. Certain related results are also considered.

Abstract:We study the non-klt locus of singularities of pairs. We show that given a pair $(X,B)$ and a projective morphism $X\to Z$ with connected fibres such that $-(K_X+B)$ is nef over $Z$, the non-klt locus of $(X,B)$ has at most two connected components near each fibre of $X\to Z$. This was conjectured by Hacon and Han. In a different direction we answer a question of Mark Gross on connectedness of the non-klt loci of certain pairs. This is motivated by constructions in Mirror Symmetry.

Abstract:Abstract We study in this article three birational invariants of projective hyper-Kähler manifolds: the degree of irrationality, the fibering gonality, and the fibering genus. We first improve the lower bound in a recent result of Voisin saying that the fibering genus of a Mumford–Tate very general projective hyper-Kähler manifold is bounded from below by a constant depending on its dimension and the second Betti number. We also study the relations between these birational invariants for projective $K3$ surfaces of Picard number $1$ and study the asymptotic behaviors of their degree of irrationality and fibering genus.

Abstract: Motivated by the recent work of Kachru-Vafa in string theory, we study in Part A of this paper, certain identities involving modular forms, hypergeometric series, and more generally series solutions to Fuchsian equations. The identity which arises in string theory is the simpliest of its kind. There are nontrivial generalizations of the identity which appear new. We give many such examples -- all of which arise in mirror symmetry for algebraic K3 surfaces. In Part B, we study the integrality property of certain $q$-series, known as mirror maps, which arise in mirror symmetry.

We show that does not exceed . Moreover, the equality holds if and only if is birational to an abelian variety. We also show that an analogous result holds for groups of bimeromorphic automorphisms of compact Kähler spaces under some additional assumptions.

Abstract:We study the equivariantly perturbed mirror Landau-Ginzburg model of P-1. We show that the Eynard-Orantin recursion on this model encodes all-genus, all-descendants equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of P-1. The nonequivariant limit of this result is the Norbury-Scott conjecture, while by taking large radius limit we recover the Bouchard-Marino conjecture on simple Hurwitz numbers.
On Hilbert scheme of complete intersection on the biprojective

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to construct the Hilbert scheme of complete intersections in the biprojective space $X=\mathbb{P}^m\times\mathbb{P}^n$ and for this, we define a partial order on the bidegrees of the bihomogeneous forms. As a consequence of this construction, we computer explicitly the Hilbert scheme for curves of genus 7 and 8 listed in \cite{MUK95} and \cite{MUKIDE03} that are complete intersections. Finally, we construct the coarse moduli space of complete intersections in $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$.

Abstract:We first state a condition ensuring that having a birational map onto the image is an open property for families of irreducible normal non uniruled varieties. We give then some criteria to ensure general birationality for a family of rational maps, via specializations. Among the applications is a new proof of a result obtained jointly with Luca Cesarano: that, for a general pair $(A,X)$ of an (ample) Hypersurface $X$ in an Abelian Variety $A$, the canonical map $\Phi_X$ of $X$ is birational onto its image if the polarization given by $X$ is not principal. The proof is also based on a careful study of the Theta divisors of the Jacobians of Hyperelliptic curves, and some related geometrical constructions. We investigate these here also in view of their beauty and of their independent interest, as they lead to a description of the rings of Hyperelliptic theta functions.

Abstract:The motivic zeta function of a smooth and proper $\mathbb{C}((t))$-variety $X$ with trivial canonical bundle is a rational function with coefficients in an appropriate Grothendieck ring of complex varieties, which measures how $X$ degenerates at $t=0$. In analogy with Igusa's monodromy conjecture for $p$-adic zeta functions of hypersurface singularities, we expect that the poles of the motivic zeta function of $X$ correspond to monodromy eigenvalues on the cohomology of $X$. In this paper, we prove that the motivic zeta function and the monodromy conjecture are preserved under birational equivalence, which extends the range of known cases. As a further application, we explain how the motivic zeta function acts as an obstruction to the existence of a smooth filling for $X$ at $t=0$.

Abstract:This is a considerably expanded version of the "pure" part of our 2002 preprint. We define a category of pure birational motives over a field, depending on the choice of an adequate equivalence relation on algebraic cycles. It is obtained by "killing" the Lefschetz motive in the corresponding category of effective motives. For rational equivalence, it encompasses Bloch's decomposition of the diagonal. We study the induced Chow-Künneth decompositions in this category, and establish relationships with Rost's cycle modules and the Albanese functor for smooth projective varieties.
