Abstract:New notion of weak amenability, $(\varphi,\psi)$-weak amenability recently introduced. In this paper we consider this new notion and study $(\varphi,\psi)$-weak amenability of group algebras $M(G)$, $L^1(G)$ and $S^1(G)$.

Among other things, it is proved that the measure algebra M(G) of a locally compact group G is always weakly Connes amenable. Abstract:It is shown that for a locally compact group $G$, if $L^{1}(G)^{**}$ is approximately weakly amenable, then $M(G)$ is approximately weakly amenable. Then, new notions of approximate weak amenability and approximate cyclic amenability for Banach algebras are introduced. Bounded $\omega^{*}$-approximately weakly [cyclic] amenable $\ell^{1}$-Munn algebras are characterized.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the hereditary properties of module $(\phi,\varphi)$-amenability on Banach algebras. We also define the concept of module character contractibility for Banach algebras and obtain characterizations of module character contractible Banach algebras in terms of the existence of module $(\phi,\varphi)$-diagonals. We introduce module approximately character amenable Banach algebras. Finally, for every inverse semigroup $S$ with subsemigroup $E$ of idempotents, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the $\ell^1(S)$ and its second dual to be module approximate character amenable (as a $\ell^1(E)$-module).

Abstract:Abstract This paper continues the investigation of Esslamzadeh and the first author which was begun in [ESSLAMZADEH, G. H.-SHOJAEE, B.: Approximate weak amenability of Banach algebras, Bull. Belg. Math. Soc. Simon Stevin 18 (2011), 415-429]. It is shown that homomorphic image of an approximately cyclic amenable Banach algebra is again approximately cyclic amenable. Equivalence of approximate cyclic amenability of a Banach algebra A and approximate cyclic amenability of M n (A) is proved. It is shown that under certain conditions the approximate cyclic amenability of second dual A∗∗ implies the approximate cyclic amenability of A.

Abstract:In this paper, we countinue our work in \cite{11}. We show that $L^{1}(G,w)$ is $\phi_{0}$-biprojective if and only if $G$ is compact, where $\phi_{0}$ is the augmentation character. We introduce the notions of character Johnson amenability and character Johnson contractibility for Banach algebras. We show that $\ell^{1}(S)$ is pseudo-amenable if and only if $\ell^{1}(S)$ is character Johnson-amenable, provided that $S$ is a uniformly locally finite band semigroup. We give some conditions whether $\phi$-biprojectivity ($\phi$-biflatness) of $\ell^{1}(S)$ implies the finiteness (amenability) of $S$, respectively.

Abstract:In this work we introduce and study a new notion of amenability for actions of locally compact groups on C ∗ C^* -algebras. Our definition extends the definition of amenability for actions of discrete groups due to Claire Anantharaman-Delaroche. We show that our definition has several characterizations and permanence properties analogous to those known in the discrete case. For example, for actions on commutative C ∗ C^* -algebras, we show that our notion of amenability is equivalent to measurewise amenability. Combined with a recent result of Alex Bearden and Jason Crann, this also settles a long standing open problem about the equivalence of topological amenability and measurewise amenability for a second countable G G -space X X . We use our new notion of amenability to study when the maximal and reduced crossed products agree. One of our main results generalizes a theorem of Matsumura: we show that for an action of an exact locally compact group G G on a locally compact space X X the full and reduced crossed products C 0 ( X ) ⋊ m a x G C_0(X)\rtimes _\mathrm {max}G and C 0 ( X ) ⋊ r e d G C_0(X)\rtimes _\mathrm {red}G coincide if and only if the action of G G on X X is amenable. We also show that the analogue of this theorem does not hold for actions on noncommutative C ∗ C^* -algebras. Finally, we study amenability as it relates to more detailed structure in the case of C ∗ C^* -algebras that fibre over an appropriate G G -space X X , and the interaction of amenability with various regularity properties such as nuclearity, exactness, and the (L)LP, and the equivariant versions of injectivity and the WEP.

Abstract:We introduce and study a new notion of amenability called symmetric pseudo-amenability. We obtain some properties of symmetrically pseudo-amenable Banach algebras and with examples, we compare this type of amenability with some other types of amenability. We also provide some special classes of symmetrically pseudo-amenable Banach algebras. Finally, Jordan and Lie derivations from a class of Banach algebras into appropriate Banach bimodules are investigated using the notion of symmetric pseudo-amenability.

Abstract:The SRS is a 2GeV synchrotron light source with 14 beamlines serving approximately 34 experimental stations. Control of the major elements of the beamlines (vacuum pumps, gauges, valves and radiation stops) is the responsibility of the main SRS Control System. As part of the long-term upgrade plan for the SRS Control System a large programme of work has been undertaken to modernize beamline control. This work included: development of Linux based PC front end computers to interface to the existing CAMAC I/O system, replacement of the user interface by graphical synoptic diagrams running on Windows NT PCs, development of an ActiveX control for parameter display/control and a cache server to reduce loading on the rest of the control system. This paper describes the major components of the project; the techniques used to manage the new PCs and discusses some of the problems encountered during development.

Abstract:Let G be a locally compact group, and let A(G) and B(G) denote its Fourier and Fourier-Stieltjes algebras. These algebras are dual objects of the group and measure algebras, L^1(G) and M(G), in a sense which generalizes the Pontryagin duality theorem on abelian groups. We wish to consider the amenability properties of A(G) and B(G) and compare them to such properties for L^1(G) and M(G). For us, ``amenability properties'' refers to amenability, weak amenability, and biflatness, as well as some properties which are more suited to special settings, such as the hyper-Tauberian property for semisimple commutative Banach algebras. We wish to emphasize that the theory of operator spaces and completely bounded maps plays an indispensable role when studying A(G) and B(G). We also show some applications of amenability theory to problems of complemented ideals and homomorphisms.

Abstract:Different notions of amenability on hypergroups and their relations are studied. Developing Leptin's theorem for discrete hypergroups, we characterize the existence of a bounded approximate identity for hypergroup Fourier algebras. We study the Leptin condition for discrete hypergroups derived from the representation theory of some classes of compact groups. Studying amenability of the hypergroup algebras for discrete commutative hypergroups, we obtain some results on amenability properties of some central Banach algebras on compact and discrete groups.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of Johnson pseudo-Connes amenability for dual Banach algebras. We study the relation between this new notion with the various notions of Connes amenability like Connes amenability, approximate Connes amenability and pseudo Connes amenability. We also investigate some hereditary properties of this new notion. We prove that for a locally compact group $G$, $M(G)$ is Johnson pseudo-Connes amenable if and only if $G$ is amenable. Also we show that for every non-empty set $I$, $\mathbb{M}_I(\mathbb{C})$ under this new notion is forced to have a finite index. Finally, we provide some examples of certain dual Banach algebras and we study their Johnson pseudo-Connes amenability.

Amenable actions of compact and discrete quantum groups on von Neumann algebras

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a compact quantum group and $A\subseteq B$ an inclusion of $\sigma$-finite $\mathbb{G}$-dynamical von Neumann algebras. We prove that the $\mathbb{G}$-inclusion $A\subseteq B$ is strongly equivariantly amenable if and only if it is equivariantly amenable, using techniques from the theory of non-commutative $L^p$-spaces. In particular, if $(A, \alpha)$ is a $\mathbb{G}$-dynamical von Neumann algebra with $A$ $\sigma$-finite, the action $\alpha: A \curvearrowleft \mathbb{G}$ is strongly (inner) amenable if and only if the action $\alpha: A \curvearrowleft \mathbb{G}$ is (inner) amenable. By duality, we also obtain the same result for $\mathbb{G}$ a discrete quantum group, so that, in particular, a discrete quantum group is inner amenable if and only it is strongly inner amenable. This result can be seen as a dynamical generalization of Tomatsu's result on the amenability/co-amenability duality. We also provide the first explicit examples of amenable discrete quantum groups that act non-amenably on a von Neumann algebra.

Amenability for unitary groups of simple monotracial C*-algebras

Abstract:We prove the following two results. First, the isometry semigroup of a unital properly infinite nuclear C*-algebra is right amenable. Second, the unitary group of a unital simple monotracial C*-algebra whose tracial GNS representation is hyperfinite is skew-amenable in the weak topology. This answers in part a conjecture of Alekseev, Schmidt, and Thom and a question of Pestov.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notion of σ−ideally Connes amenable for dual Banach algebras and give some hereditary properties for this new notion. We also investigate σ−ideally Connes amenability of l1(G,ω). We show that if ω is a diagonally bounded weight function on discrete group G and σ is isometrically isomorphism of l1(G,ω), then l1(G,ω) is σ−ideally Connes amenable and so it is ideally Connes amenable.
