Abstract:The k-Cauchy-Fueter complex in quaternionic analysis is the counterpart of the Dolbeault complex in complex analysis. In this paper, we find the explicit transformation formula of these complexes under SL(n+1,ℍ), which acts on ℍ^ n as quaternionic fractional linear transformations. These transformation formulae have several interesting applications to k-regular functions, the quaternionic counterpart of holomorphic functions, and geometry of domains. They allow us to construct the k-Cauchy-Fueter complex over locally projective flat manifolds explicitly and introduce various notions of pluripotential theory on this kind of manifolds. We also introduce a quaternionic projectively invariant operator from the quaternionic Monge-Ampère operator, which can be used to find projectively invariant defining density of a domain, generalizing Fefferman's construction in complex analysis.
Mod $\ell$ multiplicities in certain $U(4)$ Shimura varieties

Abstract:We use the Taylor-Wiles-Kisin patching method to investigate the multiplicities with which Hecke eigensystems appear in the mod-$\ell$ cohomology of unitary Shimura sets, associated to central simple algebras of the form $B=M_2(D)$, for $D$ a nonsplit quaternion algebra over a $CM$ field. We follow a similar strategy to the one used in our prior work for Shimura curves, exploiting the natural self-duality in this setting. Our method requires a careful analysis of certain irreducible components of local deformation rings. We introduce and analyze a new local model for local deformation rings specific to the case of a banal prime, which is significantly better behaved than the standard local models for local deformation rings. Our main result is a "multiplicity $2^a$ result", in the case where quaternion algebra $D$ ramifies only at banal primes, where $a$ is the number of places in the discriminant of $D$ which satisfy a certain Galois theoretic condition. We also prove an additional statement about the endomorphism ring of the cohomology of the Shimura set, which has an application to the study of congruence modules.

Abstract:We give a new and self-contained proof for an alternative form of Tunnell’s theorem on congruent numbers. The proof relies on more knowledge on quadratic forms with less calculation than Tunnell’s proof. The approach is based on our observation that the equality $$\#\{(x,y,z,w) \in \mathbb {Z}^4|p=2x^2+3y^2+3z^2+4w^2+2yz\}=\#\{(x,y,z) \in \mathbb {Z}^3|p^2=2x^2+4y^2+9z^2-4yz\}$$ holds for any odd prime p. The same method is applied to the elliptic curves $$E_n:~y^2=x^3+n^2x$$ and $$E_{n}:~~y^2=x(x-n)(x+3n)(E_{-n}:~~y^2=x(x+n)(x-3n))$$ ( $$\pi /3$$ ( $$2\pi /3$$ )-congruent elliptic curves), where we list, without proof, the analogous results. A series of criteria for congruent numbers are given. In particular, for a prime p, we show that if $$p\equiv 1\pmod {8}$$ is a congruent number then the 8-rank of $$K_2O_{\mathbb {Q}(\sqrt{p})}$$ equals one; if $$p\equiv 1\pmod {16}$$ with $$h(-p)\not \equiv h(-2p)\pmod {16}$$ then 2p is not a congruent number; and if $$p\equiv 1, q\equiv 3\pmod {8}$$ are two primes with $$h(-pq)\not \equiv h(-p)\pmod {8}$$ then pq is not a congruent number.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a conjecture of Kudla and Rallis. Let $\chi$ be a unitary character, $s\in \mathbb{C}$ and $W$ a symplectic vector space over a non-archimedean field with symmetry group $G(W)$. Denote by $I(\chi,s)$ the degenerate principal series representation of $G(W\oplus W)$. Pulling back $I(\chi,s)$ along the natural embedding $G(W)\times G(W)\hookrightarrow G(W\oplus W)$ gives a representation $I_{W,W}(\chi,s)$ of $G(W)\times G(W)$. Let $\pi$ be an irreducible smooth complex representation of $G(W)$. We then prove \[\dim _\mathbb{C}\mathrm{Hom}_{G(W)\times G(W)}(I_{W,W}(\chi,s),\pi\otimes \pi^\lor)=1.\] We also give analogous statements for $W$ orthogonal or unitary. This gives in particular a new proof of the conservation relation of the local Theta correspondence for symplectic-orthogonal and unitary dual pairs.

Abstract:Hennings and Kuperberg defined quantum invariants $Z_{Henn}$ and $Z_{Kup}$ for closed oriented $3$-manifolds based on certain Hopf algebras, respectively. When the Hopf algebras are semisimple, it is shown that $Z_{Kup}=|Z_{Henn}|^2$. In this paper, we present a new proof of this equality.

Abstract:A classical result about unit equations says that if Γ 1 and Γ 2 are finitely generated subgroups of ${\mathbb C}^\times$ , then the equation x + y = 1 has only finitely many solutions with x ∈ Γ 1 and y ∈ Γ 2 . We study a non-commutative analogue of the result, where $\Gamma_1,\Gamma_2$ are finitely generated subsemigroups of the multiplicative group of a quaternion algebra. We prove an analogous conclusion when both semigroups are generated by algebraic quaternions with norms greater than 1 and one of the semigroups is commutative. As an application in dynamics, we prove that if f and g are endomorphisms of a curve C of genus 1 over an algebraically closed field k, and deg( f), deg(g)≥ 2, then f and g have a common iterate if and only if some forward orbit of f on C(k) has infinite intersection with an orbit of g.

Abstract:We provide a direct proof of Seidel representation in the quantum K-theory QK(Gr(k, n)) by studying projected Gromov-Witten varieties concretely. As applications, we give an alternative proof of the K-theoretic quantum Pieri rule by Buch and Mihalcea, reduce certain quantum Schubert structure constants of higher degree to classical Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for K(Gr(k, n)), and provide a quantum Littlewood-Richardson rule for QK(Gr(3, n)).

Quasi Regular Functions in Quaternionic Analysis

Abstract:We study a new class of functions that arise naturally in quaternionic analysis, we call them "quasi regular functions". Like the well-known quaternionic regular functions, these functions provide representations of the quaternionic conformal group. However, unlike the regular functions, the quasi regular ones do not admit an invariant unitary structure but rather a pseudounitary equivalent. The reproducing kernels of these functions have an especially simple form: (Z-W)^{-1}. We describe the K-type bases of quasi regular functions and derive the reproducing kernel expansions. We also show that the restrictions of the irreducible representations formed from the quasi regular functions to the Poincare group have three irreducible components.

On some mod $p$ representations of quaternion algebra over $\mathbb{Q}_p$

Abstract:Let $F$ be a totally real field in which $p$ is unramified and $B$ be a quaternion algebra which splits at at most one infinite place. Let $\overline{r}:\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\to \mathrm{GL}_2(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ be a modular Galois representation which satisfies the Taylor-Wiles hypotheses. Assume that for some fixed place $v|p$, $B$ ramifies at $v$ and $F_v$ is isomorphic to $ \mathbb{Q}_p$ and $\overline{r}$ is generic at $v$. We prove that the admissible smooth representations of the quaternion algebra over $\mathbb{Q}_p$ coming from mod $p$ cohomology of Shimura varieties associated to $B$ have Gelfand-Kirillov dimension $1$. As an application we prove that the degree two Scholze's functor vanishes on supersingular representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$. We also prove some finer structure theorem about the image of Scholze's functor in the reducible case.

Denote the class numbers of K, k and $\tilde K$ by h K , h k and {417-3} respectively. Here congruences modulo powers of 2 for h − = h K /h K and $\tilde h^ - = h_{\tilde K} /h_k $ are obtained via studying the p-adic L-functions of the fields.
Positivity of minuscule quantum K-theory

Abstract:We prove that the Schubert structure constants of the quantum $K$-theory ring of any minuscule flag variety or quadric hypersurface have signs that alternate with codimension. We also prove that the powers of the deformation parameter $q$ that occur in the product of two Schubert classes in the quantum cohomology or quantum $K$-theory ring of a cominuscule flag variety form an integer interval. Our proofs are based on several new results, including an explicit description of the most general non-empty intersection of two Schubert varieties in an arbitrary flag manifold, and a computation of the cohomology groups of any negative line bundle restricted to a Richardson variety in a cominuscule flag variety. We also give a type-uniform proof of the quantum-to-classical theorem, which asserts that the (3-point, genus 0) Gromov-Witten invariants of any cominuscule flag variety are classical triple-intersection numbers on an associated flag variety. Finally, we prove several new results about the geometry and combinatorics related to this theorem.

Abstract:Quasi-conformal actions were introduced in the physics literature as a generalization of the familiar fractional linear action on the upper half plane, to Hermitian symmetric tube domains based on arbitrary Jordan algebras, and further to arbitrary Freudenthal triple systems. In the mathematics literature, quaternionic discrete series unitary representations of real reductive groups in their quaternionic real form were constructed as degree 1 cohomology on the twistor spaces of symmetric quaternionic-Kahler spaces. These two constructions are essentially identical, as we show explicitly for the two rank 2 cases SU(2,1) and G_{2(2)}. We obtain explicit results for certain principal series, quaternionic discrete series and minimal representations of these groups, including formulas for the lowest K-types in various polarizations. We expect our results to have applications to topological strings, black hole micro-state counting and to the theory of automorphic forms.

Abstract:We prove an equidistribution result about Hecke orbits on the Picard group of Shimura curves coming from definite quaternion algebras over function fields. In particular, we show the equidistribution of Hecke orbits of supersingular Drinfeld modules of rank 2. Our approach is via the automorphic method, using bounds for coefficients of cuspidal automorphic forms of Drinfeld type as the main tool.

Abstract:Let (g,k) be a complex quaternionic symmetric pair with k having an ideal sl(2,C) , k=sl(2,C)+mc . Consider the representation Sm(C2)=Cm+1 of k via the projection k→sl(2,C) onto the ideal sl(2,C) . We study the finite dimensional irreducible representations V(λ) of g which contain Sm(C2) under k⊆g . We give a characterization of all such representations V(λ) and find the corresponding multiplicity m(λ,m)=dimHom(V(λ)|k,Sm(C2)). We consider also the branching problem of V(λ) under l=u(1)C+mc⊂k and find the multiplicities. Geometrically the Lie subalgebra l⊂k defines a twistor space over the compact symmetric space of the compact real form Gu of GC , Lie(GC)=g , and our results give the decomposition for the L2 -spaces of sections of certain vector bundles over the symmetric space and line bundles over the twistor space. This generalizes Cartan–Helgason's theorem for symmetric spaces (g,k) and Schlichtkrull's theorem for Hermitian symmetric spaces where one-dimensional representations of k are considered.

Abstract:Since the study by Jacobi and Hecke, Hecke-type series have received a lot of attention. Unlike such series associated with indefinite quadratic forms, identities on Hecke-type series associated with definite quadratic forms are quite rare in the literature. Motivated by the works of Liu, we first establish many parameterized identities with two parameters by employing different $q$-transformation formulas and then deduce various Hecke-type identities associated with definite quadratic forms by specializing the choice of these two parameters. As applications, we utilize some of these Hecke-type identities to establish families of inequalities for several partition functions. Our proofs heavily rely on some formulas from the work of Zhi-Guo Liu.

On the sumsets of exceptional units in quaternion rings

Abstract:We investigate sums of exceptional units in a quaternion ring $H(R)$ over a finite commutative ring $R$. We prove that in order to find the number of representations of an element in $H(R)$ as a sum of $k$ exceptional units for some integer $k \geq 2$, we can limit ourselves to studying the quaternion rings over local rings. For a local ring $R$ of even order, we find the number of representations of an element of $H(R)$ as a sum of $k$ exceptional units for any integer $k \geq 2$. For a local ring $R$ of odd order, we find either the number or the bounds for the number of representations of an element of $H(R)$ as a sum of $2$ exceptional units.

Abstract:We prove that the Schubert structure constants of the quantum K-theory rings of symplectic Grassmannians of lines have signs that alternate with codimension and vanish for degrees at least 3. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_p^2 .
