What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the study of the stability and index of completely one - sided minimal surfaces in certain three - dimensional Riemannian manifolds. Specifically, the author focuses on the second variation problem of completely one - sided minimal surfaces in three - dimensional Riemannian manifolds with positive scalar curvature. The core of these problems lies in understanding the stability characteristics of these surfaces, that is, their behavior as critical points of the volume functional. The main research objects of the paper include: - The stability and index of completely one - sided minimal surfaces in \( S^3 \), \( S^2\times\mathbb{R} \) and certain Riemannian quotient spaces (such as \( \mathbb{RP}^3 \), \( \mathbb{RP}^2\times\mathbb{R} \), \( S^2\times S^1 \) and \( \mathbb{RP}^2\times S^1 \)). - In particular, the author studies the index properties of completely non - compact minimal surfaces in these manifolds and draws several main conclusions, for example: - The index of any completely non - compact minimal surface in \( S^3 \), \( \mathbb{RP}^3 \), \( S^2\times\mathbb{R} \) or \( S^2\times S^1 \) is infinite. - The completely non - compact minimal embedding of \( \mathbb{RP}^1\times\mathbb{R} \) in \( \mathbb{RP}^2\times\mathbb{R} \) is the only stable orientable completely non - compact minimal surface. - The completely compact minimal embedding of \( S^1\times S^1 \) in \( S^2\times S^1 \) is the only orientable compact minimal surface with index one. Through these studies, the author aims to fill the gaps in the existing literature on the stability study of completely one - sided minimal surfaces and provide new theoretical results and methods.
