Abstract:The latest results in electroweak physics from proton anti-proton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron recorded by the CDF detector are presented. The results provide constraints on parton distribution functions, the mass of the Higgs boson and beyond the Standard Model physics.

Distributed Algorithms for Optimal Rate-Reliability Tradeoff in Networks

Abstract:The current framework of network utility maximization for distributed rate allocation assumes fixed channel code rates. However, by adapting the physical layer channel coding, different rate-reliability tradeoffs can be achieved on each link and for each end user. Consider a network where each user has a utility function that depends on both signal quality and data rate, and each link may provide a `fatter' (`thinner') information `pipe' by allowing a higher (lower) decoding error probability. We propose two distributed, pricing-based algorithms to attain optimal rate-reliability tradeoff, with an interpretation that each user provides its willingness to pay for reliability to the network and the network feeds back congestion prices to users. The proposed algorithms converge to a tradeoff point between rate and reliability, which is proved to be globally optimal for codes with sufficiently large codeword lengths and user utilities with sufficiently negative curvatures.

Scaling law for the critical function of an approximate renormalization

Abstract:We construct an approximate renormalization for Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom in order to study the break-up of invariant tori with arbitrary frequency. We derive the equation of the critical surface of the renormalization map, and we compute the scaling behavior of the critical function of one-parameter families of Hamiltonians, near rational frequencies. For the forced pendulum model, we find the same scaling law found for the standard map in [Carletti and Laskar, preprint (2000)]. We discuss a conjecture on the link between the critical function of various types of forced pendulum models, with the Bruno function.

Abstract:Most recent results of $W$ boson mass measurements from Tevatron experiments (CDF and D0) in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ GeV are reported, using $0.2 fb^{-1}$ and $1.0 fb^{-1}$ data collected at CDF and D0, respectively. The measurements of $W$ boson properties at LHC experiments (ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb) in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV, using data collected before Summer 2011, are presented. These measurements are essential at the preparation stage of the $W$ boson mass measurements at LHC. Challenges for $W$ mass measurement at the LHC in comparison with the Tevatron are outlined. Prospects for $W$ mass precision with upcoming measurements and its implications are discussed.

Abstract:In this review, we summarize tests of standard electroweak (EW) theory at the highest available energies as a precursor to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) era. Our primary focus is on the published results (as of March 2010) from proton- antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collected using the CDF and D0 detectors. This review is very timely since the LHC scientific program is nearly underway with the first high-energy ($\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV) collisions about to begin. After presenting an overview of the EW sector of the standard model, we provide a summary of current experimental tests of EW theory. These include gauge boson properties and self-couplings, tests of EW physics from top quark sector, and searches for the Higgs boson.

Abstract:This paper reviews results of beyond-the-standard model searches at the Tevatron presented in a plenary talk at the Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics (EPS-HEP) in Grenoble. Here I present a selection of results from the CDF and D0 experiments that were shown at the conference during the parallel sessions. Much more is available and can be found at the experiment's web pages. This proceeding essentially focuses on searches in the dilepton, diboson, and t-tbar final states. Throughout the paper, hints of new physics observed at the Tevatron are also briefly discussed.

Abstract:After the first LHC long shutdown with upgrades to the machine and the detectors, since 2015 the ATLAS experiment recorded more than 30 fb-1 of integrated luminosity of pp collision data at 13 TeV centre- of-mass energy. The data collected to date, the detector and physics performance, and measurements of Standard Model processes are reviewed briefly before summarising the latest ATLAS results in the Brout- Englert-Higgs sector, where substantial progress has been made since the discovery. Searches for physics phenomena beyond the Standard Model are also summarized. These proceedings reflect only a brief summary of the material presented at the conference.

Abstract:The search for Higgs bosons in both the standard model and its extensions is well under way at the Tevatron. As the integrated luminosity collected increases into the multiple inverse femptobarn range, these searches are becoming very interesting indeed. Meanwhile, the construction of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its associated experiments at CERN are nearing completion. In this TeV4LHC workshop, it was realized that any experience at the Tevatron with respect to backgrounds, experimental techniques and theoretical calculations that can be verified at the Tevatron which have relevance for future measurements at the LHC were important. Studies and contributions to these efforts were made in three broad categories: theoretical calculations of Higgs production and decay mechanisms; theoretical calculations and discussions pertaining to non-standard model Higgs bosons; and experimental reviews, analyses and developments at both the Tevatron and the upcoming LHC experiments. All of these contributions represent real progress towards the elucidation of the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking.

Abstract:In these lectures, we present and discuss the most recent results on inclusive diffraction at the Tevatron collider and give the prospects at the LHC. We also describe the search for exclusive events at the Tevatron. Of special interest is the exclusive production of Higgs boson and heavy objects ($W$, top, stop pairs) at the LHC which will require precise measurements and analyses of inclusive and exclusive diffraction to constrain further the gluon density in the pomeron. At the end of these lectures, we describe the projects to install forward detectors at the LHC to fulfil these measurements.

In particular, total and differential diboson cross sections, limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings as well as top quark production cross sections and properties, such as charge asymmetry, top quark polarization and Wtb vertex measurements, are presented. Proton-proton collision data produced at the LHC at sqrt s = 7 TeV and sqrt s = 8 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector are used.

Abstract:This note presents constraints on Standard Model parameters using published and preliminary precision electroweak results measured at the electron-positron colliders LEP and SLC. The results are compared with precise electroweak measurements from other experiments, notably CDF and DØat the Tevatron. Constraints on the input parameters of the Standard Model are derived from the results obtained in high-$Q^2$ interactions, and used to predict results in low-$Q^2$ experiments, such as atomic parity violation, Møller scattering, and neutrino-nucleon scattering. The main changes with respect to the experimental results presented in 2007 are new combinations of results on the W-boson mass and width and the mass of the top quark.
