Development of Thin Slab Continuous Casting-Direct Rolling Process and Microalloyed High Strength Steel

Abstract:The process of thin slab continuous casting and direct rolling is different from the traditional one. The continuous casting thin slabs do not undergo two phase transformations of γ→α and α→γ . The grain size of austenite before rolling is coarse which is not beneficial to microstructure refinement and property improvement of products. Before the rolling, the dissolved quantity of microalloy elements is relatively large and consequently the precipitation strengthening after rolling is higher. By optimizing the process parameters of rolling reduction, rolling speed, rolling temperature, cooling rate, and coiling temperature, the good strip products with balanced properties can be produced by thin slab continuous casting and hot strip rolling.
