Abstract:We use the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula to calculate the Hirzebruch ?y genus Xy(S[n]), where S[n] is the Hilbert scheme of points of length n of a surface S. Combinatorial interpretation of the weights of the fixed points of the natural torus action on ( 2)[n] is used. This is the first step to prove a conjectural formula about the elliptic genus of the Hilbert schemes.

Abstract:Let ${\mathrm G}$ be the group $({\rm GL}_{2}\times {\rm GU}(1))/{\rm GL}_{1}$ over a totally real field $F$, and let $\mathscr{X}$ be a Hida family for ${\rm G}$. Revisiting a construction of Howard and Fouquet, we construct an explicit section $\mathscr{P}$ of a sheaf of Selmer groups over $\mathscr{X}$. We show, answering a question of Howard, that $\mathscr{P}$ is a universal Heegner class, in the sense that it interpolates geometrically defined Heegner classes at all the relevant classical points of $\mathscr{X}$. We also propose a `Bertolini-Darmon' conjecture for the leading term of $\mathscr{P}$ at classical points. We then prove that the $p$-adic height of $\mathscr{P}$ is given by the cyclotomic derivative of a $p$-adic $L$-function. This formula over $\mathscr{X}$ (which is an identity of functionals on some universal ordinary automorphic representations) specialises at classical points to all the Gross-Zagier formulas for ${\rm G}$ that may be expected from representation-theoretic considerations. Combined with a result of Fouquet, the formula implies the $p$-adic analogue of the Beilinson-Bloch-Kato conjecture in analytic rank one, for the selfdual motives attached to Hilbert modular forms and their twists by CM Hecke characters. It also implies one half of the first example of a non-abelian Iwasawa main conjecture for derivatives, in $2[F:{\bf Q}]$ variables. Other applications include two different generic non-vanishing results for Heegner classes and $p$-adic heights.

Abstract:Abstract Building upon previous results, a classification is given of finite ‐groups whose elements of order are all fused. This particularly confirms a conjecture of Gross proposed in 1976 on 2‐automorphic 2‐groups, which are 2‐groups with involutions forming a single fusion class. As a consequence, two open problems regarding AT‐groups and FIF‐groups are solved.

Abstract:In this work, we show that the difference of a Hauptmodul for a genus zero group $\Gamma_{0}(N)$ as a Hilbert modular function on $Y_{0}(N)\times Y_{0}(N)$ is a Borcherds lift of type $(2,2)$. As applications, we derive Monster denominator formula like product expansions for these Hilbert modular functions and certain Gross-Zagier type CM value formulas.

Some Lê-Greuel type formulae on stratified spaces

Abstract:We extend the circle of ideas from a previous paper on hypersurfaces to functions $f \colon (\mathbb C^n, 0) \to (\mathbb C^k, 0)$ with an isolated singularity in a stratified sense on an arbitrary, but fixed complex analytic germ $(X, 0)$. An extension of Tib{\u a}r's Bouquet Theorem to this setup allows for a topological definition of Milnor numbers $\mu(\alpha; f)$ for each stratum $V^\alpha$ of $X$ and we prove several formulas which compute these numbers as (alternating) sums of certain ``homological indices''. The main technical result at work in the background is a local Riemann-Roch type theorem, relating a topological obstruction to holomorphic Euler characteristics.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the study of the fine Selmer group of an abelian variety over a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension which is not necessarily cyclotomic. It has been conjectured that these fine Selmer groups are always torsion over $\mathbb{Z}_p[[\Gamma]]$, where $\Gamma$ is the Galois group of the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension in question. In this paper, we shall provide several strong evidences towards this conjecture. Namely, we show that the conjectural torsionness is consistent with the pseudo-nullity conjecture of Coates-Sujatha. We also show that if the conjecture is known for the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, then it holds for almost all $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions. We then carry out a similar study for the fine Selmer group of an elliptic modular form. When the modular forms are ordinary and come from a Hida family, we relate the torsionness of the fine Selmer groups of the specialization. This latter result allows us to show that the conjectural torsionness in certain cases is consistent with the growth number conjecture of Mazur. Finally, we end with some speculations on the torsionness of fine Selmer groups over an arbitrary $p$-adic Lie extension.

$M_{0,5}$: Towards the Chabauty-Kim method in higher dimensions

Abstract:If Z is an open subscheme of Spec ZZ, X is a sufficiently nice Z-model of a smooth curve over QQ, and p is a closed point of Z, the Chabauty-Kim method leads to the construction of locally analytic functions on X(ZZ_p) which vanish on X(Z); we call such functions "Kim functions". At least in broad outline, the method generalizes readily to higher dimensions. In fact, in some sense, the surface M_{0,5} should be easier than the previously studied curve M_{0,4} since its points are closely related to those of M_{0,4}, yet they face a further condition to integrality. This is mirrored by a certain "weight advantage" we encounter, because of which, M_{0,5} possesses new Kim functions not coming from M_{0,4}. Here we focus on the case "ZZ[1/6] in half-weight 4", where we provide a first nontrivial example of a Kim function on a surface. Central to our approach to Chabauty-Kim theory (as developed in works by S. Wewers, D. Corwin, and the first author) is the possibility of separating the geometric part of the computation from its arithmetic context. However, we find that in this case the geometric step grows beyond the bounds of standard algorithms running on current computers. Therefore, some ingenuity is needed to solve this seemingly straightforward problem, and our new Kim function is huge.

Abstract:Feng-Yun-Zhang have proved a function field analogue of the arithmetic Siegel-Weil formula, relating special cycles on moduli spaces of unitary shtukas to higher derivatives of Eisenstein series. We prove an extension of this formula in a low-dimensional case, and deduce from it a Gross-Zagier style formula expressing intersection multiplicities of cycles in terms of higher derivatives of base-change $L$-functions.

Height bounds and the Siegel property

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{G}$ be a reductive group defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ and let $\mathfrak{S}$ be a Siegel set in $\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{R})$. The Siegel property tells us that there are only finitely many $\gamma \in \mathbf{G}(\mathbb{Q})$ of bounded determinant and denominator for which the translate $\gamma.\mathfrak{S}$ intersects $\mathfrak{S}$. We prove a bound for the height of these $\gamma$ which is polynomial with respect to the determinant and denominator. The bound generalises a result of Habegger and Pila dealing with the case of $\mathbf{GL}_2$, and has applications to the Zilber--Pink conjecture on unlikely intersections in Shimura varieties. In addition we prove that if $\mathbf{H}$ is a subgroup of $\mathbf{G}$, then every Siegel set for $\mathbf{H}$ is contained in a finite union of $\mathbf{G}(\mathbb{Q})$-translates of a Siegel set for $\mathbf{G}$).

The cohomology of real Grassmannians via Schubert stratifications

Abstract:In this paper, we present a closed formula for the cohomology of real Grassmannians. To achieve this, we use a theory of stratified spaces to compute the differentials in a chain complex that computes the cohomology. Specifically, we organize Schubert cells as a conically smooth stratified space in the sense of Ayala, Francis, Tanaka; the links therein yield the sought differentials, using methods in differential topology. Further, we identify the isomorphism type of this chain complex and we use this result to provide a closed formula for the additive structure of the cohomology of real Grassmannians with arbitrary coefficients.

Abstract:This chapter states the main result of this book regarding Shimura curves and abelian varieties as well as the main idea of the proof of a complete Gross–Zagier formula on quaternionic Shimura curves over totally real fields. It begins with a discussion of the original formula proved by Benedict Gross and Don Zagier, which relates the Néeron–Tate heights of Heegner points on X⁰(N) to the central derivatives of some Rankin–Selberg L-functions under the Heegner condition. In particular, it considers the Gross–Zagier formula on modular curves and abelian varieties parametrized by Shimura curves. It then decribes CM points and the Waldspurger formula before concluding with an outline of our proof, along with the notation and terminology.

Abstract:Formal multiple zeta values allow to study multiple zeta values by algebraic methods in a way that the open question about their transcendence is circumvented. In this note we show that Hoffman's basis conjecture for formal multiple zeta values is implied by the free odd generation conjecture for the double shuffle Lie algebra. We use the concept of a post-Lie structure for a convenient approach to the multiplication on the double shuffle group. From this, we get a coaction on the algebra of formal multiple zeta values. This in turn allows us to follow the proof of Brown's celebrated and unconditional theorem for the same result in the context of motivic multiple zeta values. We need the free odd generation conjecture twice: at first it gives a formula for the graded dimensions and secondly it is a key to derive a lift of the Zagier formula to the formal context.
