Abstract:We prove a refinement of the global Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture proposed by Ichino-Ikeda and N. Harris for unitary groups under some local conditions. We need to assume some expected properties of L-packets and some part of the local Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture.

Abstract:Classical modular forms on the upper half plane, with respect to the modular group SL(2,Z) and its congruence subgroups, have arisen naturally in number theory, complex analysis, topology, mathematical physics, and many other subjects. The closely related automorphic representations are basic notions in the celebrated Langlands program, which was proposed by Langlands in the late 1960s and has since revolutionized the fields of number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, and representation theory. This volume consists of expanded lecture notes from a 2007 international conference in Guangzhou, China, at which several leading experts in number theory presented introductions to, and surveys of, many aspects of automorphic forms and the Langlands program. Abstract:In this article, we compute the Gan-Gross-Prasad period integral of Klingen Eisenstein series over the unitary group $\mathrm{U}(m+1, n+1)$ with a cuspidal automorphic form over $\mathrm{U}(m+1, n)$, and show that it is related to certain special Rankin-Selberg $L$-values. We $p$-adically interpolate these Gan-Gross-Prasad period integrals as the Klingen Eisenstein series and the cuspidal automorphic form vary in Hida families. As a byproduct, we obtain a $p$-adic $L$-function of Rankin-Selberg type over $\mathrm{U}(m,n) \times \mathrm{U}(m+1, n)$. The ultimate motivation is to show the $p$-primitive property of Klingen Eisenstein series over unitary groups, by computing such Gan-Gross-Prasad period integrals, and this article is a starting point of this project. The $p$-primitivity of Eisenstein series is an essential property in the automorphic method in Iwasawa theory.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a local field of characteristic zero. Rankin-Selberg's local zeta integrals produce linear functionals on generic irreducible admissible smooth representations of $GL_n(k)\times GL_r(k)$, with certain invariance properties. We show that up to scalar multiplication, these linear functionals are determined by the invariance properties.

Abstract:In this article, we study the Beilinson–Bloch–Kato conjecture for motives associated to Rankin–Selberg products of conjugate self-dual automorphic representations, within the framework of the Gan–Gross–Prasad conjecture. We show that if the central critical value of the Rankin–Selberg L-function does not vanish, then the Bloch–Kato Selmer group with coefficients in a favorable field of the corresponding motive vanishes. We also show that if the class in the Bloch–Kato Selmer group constructed from a certain diagonal cycle does not vanish, which is conjecturally equivalent to the nonvanishing of the central critical first derivative of the Rankin–Selberg L-function, then the Bloch–Kato Selmer group is of rank one.

Iwasawa's main conjecture for Rankin-Selberg motives in the anticyclotomic case

Abstract:In this article, we study the Iwasawa theory for cuspidal automorphic representations of $\mathrm{GL}(n)\times\mathrm{GL}(n+1)$ over CM fields along anticyclotomic directions, in the framework of the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for unitary groups. We prove one-side divisibility of the corresponding Iwasawa main conjecture: when the global root number is $1$, the $p$-adic $L$-function belongs to the characteristic ideal of the Iwasawa Bloch-Kato Selmer group; when the global root number is $-1$, the square of the characteristic ideal of a certain Iwasawa module is contained in the characteristic ideal of the torsion part of the Iwasawa Bloch-Kato Selmer group (analogous to Perrin-Riou's Heegner point main conjecture).

Periods of Automorphic Forms Associated to Strongly Tempered Spherical Varieties

Abstract:In this paper, we compute the local relative character for 10 strongly tempered spherical varieties in the unramified case. We also study the local multiplicity for these models. By proving a multiplicity formula, we show that the summation of the multiplicities is always equal to 1 over each local tempered Vogan $L$-packet defined on the pure inner forms of the spherical varieties. Finally, we formulate the Ichino-Ikeda type conjecture on a relation between the period integrals and the central values of certain automorphic $L$-functions for those strongly tempered spherical varieties.

Abstract:Deligne has formulated extremely influential conjectures about certain special values of the $L$-functions of (Grothendieck) motives over a number field $F$. Given the conjectural dictionary between motives and 'algebraic' automorphic representations of $\textrm{GL}(N, {\mathbb A}_F)$, where ${\mathbb A}_F$ denotes the adèles of $F$, they translate into conjectures concerning the $L$-functions of these automorphic representations. These complex representations, when they are 'regular', can be conjugated by the automorphisms of the complex field ${\mathbb C}$. It then follows, as a weak consequence of Deligne's conjectures, that the vanishing at critical points (integers of half-integers) of the automorphic $L$-functions should be invariant by automorphisms of ${\mathbb C}$. If $F$ is totally imaginary, this has been proven by Moeglin, for standard or Rankin $L$-functions. Here we extend the result to Rankin $L$-fuctions for totally real fields $F$, under a parity and a regularity assumption. The proof relies on Eisenstein cohomology and the Zucker conjecture (a theorem of Looijenga and Saper-Stern.)

Anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions for Rankin--Selberg product

Abstract:We construct $p$-adic $L$-functions for Rankin--Selberg products of automorphic forms of hermitian type in the anticyclotomic direction for both root numbers. When the root number is $+1$, the construction relies on global Bessel periods on definite unitary groups which, due to the recent advances on the global Gan--Gross--Prasad conjecture, interpolate classical central $L$-values. When the root number is $-1$, we construct an element in the Iwasawa Selmer group using the diagonal cycle on the product of unitary Shimura varieties, and conjecture that its $p$-adic height interpolates derivatives of cyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions. We also propose the nonvanishing conjecture and the main conjecture in both cases.

Abstract:We prove a prime number theorem first for the classical Rankin-Selberg L-function $L(s,\pi\times\pi')$ over any Galois extension with $\pi$ and $\pi'$ unitary automorphic cuspidal representations of $GL_n$ and $GL_m$ respectively with at least one of the representations subject to a self-contragredient assumption. We then extend these results to two representations $\pi$ defined on $GL_n/E$ and $\pi'$ defined on $GL_m/F$ with $E$ and $F$ cylic algebraic number fields of coprime degree where $\pi$ and $\pi'$ admit a base change lift from $\mathbb{Q}$ again given a self-contragredient assumption on at least one of the representations which lift to $\pi$ or $\pi'$.

Abstract:We prove a rank-two potential automorphy theorem for mod $l$ representations satisfying an ordinary condition. Combined with an ordinary automorphy lifting theorem, we prove a rank-two, $p \ne l$ case of local-global compatibility for regular algebraic cuspidal automorphic representations of arbitrary weight over CM fields that is $\iota$-ordinary for some $\iota: \overline{\mathbb{Q}}_l\xrightarrow{\sim}\mathbb{C}$.

Abstract:We construct an integral representation for the global Rankin-Selberg (partial) $L$-function $L(s, \pi \times \tau)$ where $\pi$ is an irreducible globally generic cuspidal automorphic representation of a general spin group (over an arbitrary number field) and $\tau$ is one of a general linear group, generalizing the works of Gelbart, Piatetski-Shapiro, Rallis, Ginzburg, Soudry and Kaplan among others. We consider all ranks and both even and odd general spin groups including the quasi-split forms. The resulting facts about the location of poles of $L(s, \pi \times \tau)$ have, in particular, important consequences in describing the image of the Langlands funtorial transfer from the general spin groups to general linear groups.

The Harris-Venkatesh conjecture for derived Hecke operators III: local constants

Abstract:The first two papers in this series prove the Harris-Venkatesh conjecture and its refinement with the Stark conjecture for imaginary dihedral modular forms of weight $1$. This paper explicitly describes the constants appearing in the Harris-Venkatesh (plus Stark) conjecture for dihedral modular forms by evaluating $\mathrm{GL}(2) \times \mathrm{GL}(2)$ Rankin--Selberg periods and zeta integrals on newforms and optimal forms. One consequence is a formula for the ratio between Petersson norms and adjoint $L$-values. Our calculations also extend to exotic modular forms whose level is odd or whose Deligne-Serre representation is $2$-ordinary.

Abstract:We present a Rankin-Selberg integral on the exceptional group $G_2$ which represents the L-function for generic cuspidal representations of $\widetilde{SL}_2\times GL_2$. As an application, we show that certain Fourier-Jacobi type periods on $G_2$ are non-vanishing.

Abstract:This is a report for the author's talk in ICM-2018. Motivated by the formulas of Gross--Zagier and Waldspurger, we review conjectures and theorems on automorphic period integrals, special cycles on Shimura varieties, and their connection to central values of L-functions and their derivatives. We focus on the global Gan--Gross--Prasad conjectures, their arithmetic versions and some variants in the author's joint work with Rapoport and Smithling. We discuss the approach of relative trace formulas and the arithmetic fundamental lemma conjecture. In the function field setting, Z. Yun and the author obtain a formula for higher order derivatives of L-functions in terms of special cycles on the moduli space of Drinfeld Shtukas.

Abstract:After introducing the notion of uniform integrality of critical values of the Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions for $\mathrm{GL}_{n}\times \mathrm{GL}_{n-1}$, we study it when the base field is totally imaginary. For this purpose, we adopt specific models of highest weight representations of the general linear groups, construct the Eichler-Shimura classes for $\mathrm{GL}_{n}$ and $\mathrm{GL}_{n-1}$ in an explicit manner, and then evaluate the cohomological cup product of them, by making the best use of Gel'fand-Tsetlin basis.
