Abstract:We prove that the local Rankin-Selberg integrals for principal series representations of the general linear groups agree with certain simple integrals over the Rankin-Selberg subgroups, up to certain constants given by the local gamma factors.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a local field of characteristic zero. Rankin-Selberg's local zeta integrals produce linear functionals on generic irreducible admissible smooth representations of $GL_n(k)\times GL_r(k)$, with certain invariance properties. We show that up to scalar multiplication, these linear functionals are determined by the invariance properties.

Abstract:In this article, we construct a family of integrals which represent the product of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions of $\mathrm{GL}_{l}\times \mathrm{GL}_m$ and of $\mathrm{GL}_{l}\times \mathrm{GL}_n $ when $m+n<l$. When $n=0$, these integrals are those defined by Jacquet--Piatetski-Shapiro--Shalika up to a shift. In this sense, these new integrals generalize Jacquet--Piatetski-Shapiro--Shalika's Rankin-Selberg convolution integrals. We study basic properties of these integrals. In particular, we define local gamma factors using this new family of integrals. As an application, we obtain a new proof of Jacquet's local converse conjecture using these new integrals.

Abstract:After introducing the notion of uniform integrality of critical values of the Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions for $\mathrm{GL}_{n}\times \mathrm{GL}_{n-1}$, we study it when the base field is totally imaginary. For this purpose, we adopt specific models of highest weight representations of the general linear groups, construct the Eichler-Shimura classes for $\mathrm{GL}_{n}$ and $\mathrm{GL}_{n-1}$ in an explicit manner, and then evaluate the cohomological cup product of them, by making the best use of Gel'fand-Tsetlin basis.

Abstract:We present a Rankin-Selberg integral on the exceptional group $G_2$ which represents the L-function for generic cuspidal representations of $\widetilde{SL}_2\times GL_2$. As an application, we show that certain Fourier-Jacobi type periods on $G_2$ are non-vanishing.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the fundamental properties of gamma factors defined by Rankin-Selberg integrals of Shimura type for pairs of generic representations $(\pi, \tau)$ of $\mathrm{U}_{2\ell}(F)$ and $\mathrm{GL}_n(E)$ for a local field $F$ of characteristic zero and a quadratic extension $E$ of $F$. We also prove similar results for pairs of generic representations $(\pi, \tau_1 \times \tau_2)$ of $\mathrm{GL}_{2\ell}(F)$ and $\mathrm{GL}_n(F) \times \mathrm{GL}_n(F)$. As a corollary, we prove that the gamma factors arising from Langlands--Shahidi method and our gamma factors coincide.

Abstract:We study how Rankin-Selberg periods interact with integral structures in spherical Whittaker type representations. Using this representation-theoretic framework, we show that the local Euler factors appearing in the construction of the motivic Rankin-Selberg Euler system for a product of modular forms are integrally optimal; i.e. any construction of this type with any choice of integral input data would give local factors appearing in tame norm relations at $p$ which are integrally divisible by the Euler factor $\mathcal{P}_p^{'}(\mathrm{Frob}_p^{-1})$ modulo $p-1$.

Stability of Rankin-Selberg local $γ$-factors for split classical groups: the symplectic case

Abstract:Given a split classical group of symplectic type and a split general linear group over a local field $F$, we use Langlands-Shahidi method to construct their Rankin-Selberg local $\gamma$-factors and prove the corresponding analytic stability for generic representations. The idea generalizes the work of J. Cogdell, F. Shahidi, T.-L. Tsai in 2017 and D. She in 2023 in the study of asymptotic behaviors of partial Bessel functions. Different from the known cases, suppose $P=MN$ is the maximal parabolic subgroup with Levi component $M\simeq \mathrm{GL}_r\times\mathrm{Sp}_{2m}$ that defines the local factors, the action of the maximal unipotent subgroup of $M$ on $N$ have non-trivial stabilizers, and the space of integration for the corresponding local coefficient is no longer isomorphic to a torus. We will separate its toric part out in our cases and show that it plays the same role as the torus over which the integral representing the local coefficient is taken in the known cases. This is a new phenomenon with sufficient generality and we believe that it may provide us with a possible direction towards a uniform proof of stability of Langlands-Shahidi $\gamma$-factors in our future work.

Abstract:We consider an n n -fold Brylinski–Deligne cover of a reductive group over a p p -adic field. Since the space of Whittaker functionals of an irreducible genuine representation of such a cover is not one-dimensional, one can consider a local coefficients matrix arising from an intertwining operator, which is the natural analogue of the local coefficients in the linear case. In this paper, we concentrate on genuine principal series representations and establish some fundamental properties of such a local coefficients matrix, including the investigation of its arithmetic invariants. As a consequence, we prove a form of the Casselman–Shalika formula which could be viewed as a natural analogue for linear algebraic groups. We also investigate in some depth the behaviour of the local coefficients matrix with respect to the restriction of genuine principal series from covers of G L 2 GL_2 to S L 2 SL_2 . In particular, some further relations are unveiled between local coefficients matrices and gamma factors or metaplectic-gamma factors.

Abstract:In this article, we give a cohomological interpretation of (a special case of) the integrals constructed by the second named author and Q. Zhang \cite{YanZhang2023} which represent the product of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions of $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_m$ and $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_{n-m-1}$ for $m<n$. As an application, we prove an algebraicity result for the special values of certain $L$-functions. This work is a generalization of the algebraicity result of Raghuram for $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_{n-1}$ \cite{Raghuram2010} in the special case $m=n-1$, and the results of Mahnkopf \cite{Mahnkopf1998, Mahnkopf2005} in the special case $m=n-2$.

Abstract:We prove a prime number theorem first for the classical Rankin-Selberg L-function $L(s,\pi\times\pi')$ over any Galois extension with $\pi$ and $\pi'$ unitary automorphic cuspidal representations of $GL_n$ and $GL_m$ respectively with at least one of the representations subject to a self-contragredient assumption. We then extend these results to two representations $\pi$ defined on $GL_n/E$ and $\pi'$ defined on $GL_m/F$ with $E$ and $F$ cylic algebraic number fields of coprime degree where $\pi$ and $\pi'$ admit a base change lift from $\mathbb{Q}$ again given a self-contragredient assumption on at least one of the representations which lift to $\pi$ or $\pi'$.

Abstract:We construct an integral representation for the global Rankin-Selberg (partial) $L$-function $L(s, \pi \times \tau)$ where $\pi$ is an irreducible globally generic cuspidal automorphic representation of a general spin group (over an arbitrary number field) and $\tau$ is one of a general linear group, generalizing the works of Gelbart, Piatetski-Shapiro, Rallis, Ginzburg, Soudry and Kaplan among others. We consider all ranks and both even and odd general spin groups including the quasi-split forms. The resulting facts about the location of poles of $L(s, \pi \times \tau)$ have, in particular, important consequences in describing the image of the Langlands funtorial transfer from the general spin groups to general linear groups.

Abstract:Let $\pi'$ be a fixed unitary cuspidal representation of $\mathrm{GL}(n)/\mathbb{Q}.$ We establish a subconvex bound in the $t$-aspect $$ L(1/2+it,\pi\times\pi')\ll_{\pi,\pi',\varepsilon}(1+|t|)^{\frac{n(n+1)}{4}-\frac{1}{4\cdot (4n^2+2n-1)}+\varepsilon}, $$ for any unitary pure isobaric automorphic representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)/\mathbb{Q}.$ Moreover, the bound improves in the standard $L$-function case $$ L(1/2+it, \pi')\ll_{\pi',\varepsilon}(1+|t|)^{\frac{n}{4}-\frac{1}{4(n+1)(4n-1)}+\varepsilon}. $$ We also prove an explicit lower bound for nonvanishing of central $L$-values $$ \sum_{\pi\in\mathcal{A}_0}\textbf{1}_{L(1/2,\pi\times\pi')\neq 0}\gg_{\varepsilon}|\mathcal{A}_0|^{\frac{1}{n(n+1)(4n^2+2n-1)}-\varepsilon}, $$ for a suitable finite family $\mathcal{A}_0$ of unitary cuspidal representations of $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)/\mathbb{Q}.$ More generally, we address the spectral side subconvexity in the case of uniform parameter growth, and a quantitative form of simultaneous nonvanishing of central $L$-values for $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)\times\mathrm{GL}(n)$ (over $\mathbb{Q}$) in both level and eigenvalue aspects. Among other ingredients, our proofs employ a new relative trace formula in conjunction with P. Nelson's construction of archimedean test functions in \cite{Nel21} and volume estimates in \cite{Nel20}.

On the central value of Rankin $L$-functions for self-dual algebraic representations of linear groups over totally real fields

Abstract:Deligne has formulated extremely influential conjectures about certain special values of the $L$-functions of (Grothendieck) motives over a number field $F$. Given the conjectural dictionary between motives and 'algebraic' automorphic representations of $\textrm{GL}(N, {\mathbb A}_F)$, where ${\mathbb A}_F$ denotes the adèles of $F$, they translate into conjectures concerning the $L$-functions of these automorphic representations. These complex representations, when they are 'regular', can be conjugated by the automorphisms of the complex field ${\mathbb C}$. It then follows, as a weak consequence of Deligne's conjectures, that the vanishing at critical points (integers of half-integers) of the automorphic $L$-functions should be invariant by automorphisms of ${\mathbb C}$. If $F$ is totally imaginary, this has been proven by Moeglin, for standard or Rankin $L$-functions. Here we extend the result to Rankin $L$-fuctions for totally real fields $F$, under a parity and a regularity assumption. The proof relies on Eisenstein cohomology and the Zucker conjecture (a theorem of Looijenga and Saper-Stern.)
