Abstract:A procedure for designing a feedback control to asymptotically stabilize, with probability one, a quasi nonintegrable Hamiltonian system is proposed. First, the motion equations of a system are reduced to a one-dimensional averaged Itô stochastic differential equation for controlled Hamiltonian by using the stochastic averaging method for quasi nonintegrable Hamiltonian systems. Second, a dynamical programming equation for the ergodic control problem of the averaged system with undetermined cost function is established based on the dynamical programming principle. This equation is then solved to yield the optimal control law. Third, a formula for the Lyapunov exponent of the completely averaged Itô equation is derived by introducing a new norm for the definitions of stochastic stability and Lyapunov exponent in terms of the square root of Hamiltonian. The asymptotic stability with probability one of the originally controlled system is analysed approximately by using the Lyapunov exponent. Finally, the cost function is determined by the requirement of stabilizing the system. Two examples are given to illustrate the application of the proposed procedure and the effectiveness of control on stabilizing the system.

Abstract:In this article, we study feedback linearization problems for nonlinear differential‐algebraic control systems (DACSs). We consider two kinds of feedback equivalences, namely, external feedback equivalence, which is defined (locally) on the whole generalized state space, and internal feedback equivalence, which is defined on the locally maximal controlled invariant submanifold (i.e., on the set where solutions exist). We define a notion called explicitation with driving variables, which is a class of ordinary differential equation control systems (ODECSs) attaching to a given DACS. Then we give necessary and sufficient conditions for both internal and external feedback linearization problems of the DACS. We show that the feedback linearizability of the DACS is closely related to the involutivity of the linearizability distributions of the explicitation systems. Finally, we illustrate the results of the by an academic example and a constrained mechanical system.

Abstract:This paper studies the stability of the fractional order unified chaotic system. On the unstable equilibrium points, the "equivalent passivity" method is used to design the nonlinear controller. With the definition of fractional derivatives and integrals, the Lyapunov function is constructed by which it is proved that the controlled fractional order system is stable. With Laplace transform theory, the equivalent integer order state equation from the fractional order nonlinear system is obtained, and the system output can be solved. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the theory.

Abstract:Using the differential geometric control theory, we present the necessary and sufficient conditions under which an analytic affine nonlinear system with multiple inputs is equivalent to, via state transformation without feedback, a kind of extended Brunovsky canonical form. The proof is based on a new technique for applying the Frobenius Theorem in a more convenient way by converting a set of quasilinear partial differential equations with the same main portion to a set of homogeneous linear partial differential equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we present necessary and sufficient conditions under which a linear time-invariant (LTI) system is state feedback equivalent to a negative imaginary (NI) system. More precisely, we show that a minimal LTI strictly proper system can be rendered NI using full state feedback if and only if it can be output transformed into a system, which has relative degree less than or equal to two and is weakly minimum phase. We also considered the problems of state feedback equivalence to output strictly negative imaginary systems and strongly strict negative imaginary systems. Then we apply the NI state feedback equivalence result to robustly stabilize an uncertain system with strictly negative imaginary uncertainty. A real-world example is provided to illustrate the proposed results, for the purpose of stabilizing an uncertain system.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the classification problem for linear time-invariant multivariable systems without control. It turns out that the observability and stability are invariant for topological equivalent systems. Abstract results concerning system decomposition according to eigenvalues and observability are obtained. Finally, as concrete examples, the topological equivalence canonical forms for a three dimensional system equipped with a scalar observation are presented explicitly.

Abstract:Feedback control of linear continuous-time stochastic systems of general type is discussed. Various types of (classical) information patterns with both complete and partial observations (white and colored measurement noise) are considered. The cost functional is quadratic. A class of admissible control laws is defined which includes all linear and nonlinear control policies for which our problem makes sense, i.e., existence, uniqueness etc. are secured. Then, we determine the optimal control law by an imbedding procedure which amounts to solving a problem without a feedback loop. We investigate under what conditions the optimal control law is linear in the data.

Abstract:After introducing commutativity concept and summarizing the relevant literature, this work is focused on the commutativity of feedback conjugates. It is already known that a linear time-varying differential system describing a single input-single output dynamical system is always commutative with its constant gain feedback pairs. In this article, it is proven that among the time-varying feedback conjugates of a linear time-varying system, constant feedback conjugates are the only commutative feedback pairs and any of the time-varying feedback conjugates cannot constitutes a commutative pair of a linear time-varying system.

Abstract:Abstract We propose a method of solving the controllability problem using almost linearizable control systems. Developing an idea of triangular systems, proposed by the first author of this paper in 1973, we introduce a wider class of almost triangular systems for which it is possible to find explicitly a control steering the system from one given point to another given point. We give conditions of almost linearizability for nonlinear single-input systems of the class $C^{1}$ and discuss a method of solving the controllability problem for such systems.

Abstract:Globally asymptotical stabilisation for a class of feedback linearisable differential inclusion systems with disturbances is dealt with in this study. A systematic method for constructing the control Lyapunov function (CLF) is presented by solving the Lyapunov equation. Sufficient and necessary conditions for a quadratic CLF to be a CLF for single-input and multi-input systems are acquired, respectively. Then, continuous state feedback laws are designed for corresponding systems. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by two simulation examples. © 2011 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Abstract:New approaches are proposed in the problem of constructing equivalent scalar differential equations for multidimensional nonlinear systems of control theory, as well as in the problem of constructing equivalent Hamiltonian systems for nonlinear Lurie equations (scalar differential equations containing derivatives of only even orders). The conditions for the solvability of the corresponding problems are studied, and new formulas for the transition to equivalent equations and systems are proposed. For the Lurie equations, the proposed approaches are based on the transition from the linear part to the normal forms of the corresponding Hamiltonian systems with a subsequent transformation of the resulting system. Calculation formulas and algorithms are obtained, and their efficiency is illustrated by examples.

Abstract:For linear fractional-order systems, state feedback H∞ optimal control problem is considered. It is shown that essential infimum of the H∞ norm of the closed-loop transfer function over all static stabilizing state-feedback laws can be completely characterized via a Fractional-order Algebraic Riccati Equation (FARE). Accordingly, the state-feedback H∞ optimal controller design can be performed by iteratively solving an FARE.

Abstract:This paper considers global properties of a class of nonlinear systems with infinite equilibria. Time-domain and frequency-domain criteria for dichotomy and gradient-like behavior are established. Similar to the sector condition in absolute stability problems, the bounded derivative condition of nonlinear functions can be used to reduce the conservativeness of the given criteria. Compared with the frequency-domain conditions, the time-domain inequalities can be solved easily by linear matrix inequality (LMI) toolbox and used to discuss controller design problems. Several examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the results.

Abstract:It is concerned with L1-control of continuous affine nonlinear systems with prescribed exponentially convergent rate and performance by using set-valued analysis method.The concept of controlled λ-exponentially contractive set for the systems is introduced,and relation between the set and that for its Euler approximation discrete-time system is also established.For affine nonlinear continuous-time systems,a sufficient condition for the existence of static-state continuous nonlinear feedback for the L1-control problem is presented.The result extends to the one in reference in stability sense.

Abstract:The paper deals with local robust feedback synthesis for systems with multidimensional control and unknown bounded perturbations. Using V.~I.~Korobov's controllability function method, we construct a bounded control which steers an arbitrary initial point to the origin in some finite time; an estimate from above for the time of motion is given. We have found the range of a segment where the perturbations can vary. As an example we consider the problem of stopping the oscillations of the system of two coupled pendulums.

Abstract:One of the most popular methods of controlling dynamical systems is feedback. It can be used without acquiring detailed knowledge of the underlying system. In this work, we study the stability of fractional-order linear difference equations under feedback. The stability results are derived for an arbitrary feedback time $\tau$. We study the cases of $\tau=1$ and $\tau=2$ in further detail. The extension to the stability of fixed points under feedback for nonlinear fractional order difference equations with fixed points $ x_{*}=0$ is also carried out.
