Abstract:We use $G$-stable pieces to construct some equidimensional varieties and as a consequence, obtain Lusztig's dimension estimates \cite[section 4]{L2}. This is a generalization of \cite{HL}.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p\ge 0$ and $\mathfrak{g}={\rm Lie}(G)$. We show that the nilpotent pieces ${\rm LX}(\Delta)$ introduced by Lusztig coincide with the corresponding Hesselink strata $\mathcal{H}(\Delta)$ and hence form a partition of the nilpotent cone of $\mathfrak{g}$. Similar results are obtained for the unipotent pieces of $G$. Here $\Delta$ runs through the set of all weighted Dynkin diagrams of $G$. Thanks to the results obtained by Lusztig, Xue and Voggesberger this boils down to establishing the partition property of the pieces ${\rm LX}(\Delta)$ for groups of type ${\rm E_7}$ in characteristic $2$ and for groups of type ${\rm E_8}$ in characteristic $2$ and $3$.

Abstract:Affine Lusztig varieties encode the orbital integrals of Iwahori--Hecke functions and serve as building blocks for the (conjectural) theory of affine character sheaves. We establish a close relationship between affine Lusztig varieties and affine Deligne--Lusztig varieties. Consequently, we give an explicit nonemptiness pattern and dimension formula for affine Lusztig varieties in most cases.

We show that Kajiura-Saito-Takahashiu0027s solution $sigma_G$ of $tau(sigma)=(-2/h)cdotsigma$, for the category of graded matrix factorization $mathcal{D}_infty(Q)=mathcal{D}^b(mathbf{k}Q)$ for a Dynkin quiver $Q$, gives the unique minimal value $1-2/h$ of $operatorname{gl.dim}$. Here $tau$ is the Auslander-Reiten functor and $h$ is the Coxeter number. Global Dimension Function on Stability Conditions and Gepner Equations

Abstract:We study the global dimension function gldim:Aut\Stab𝒟/ℂ→ℝ_≥ 0 on the quotient of the space of Bridgeland stability conditions on a triangulated category 𝒟 as well as Toda’s Gepner equation Φ (σ )=s·σ for some σ∈Stab𝒟 and (Φ ,s)∈Aut𝒟×ℂ . For the bounded derived category 𝒟^b(kQ) of a Dynkin quiver Q, we show that there is a unique minimal point σ _G of gldim (up to the ℂ -action), with value 1-2/h . which is the solution of the Gepner equation τ (σ )=(-2/h)·σ . Here τ is the Auslander–Reiten functor and h is the Coxeter number. This solution σ _G was constructed by Kajiura–Saito–Takahashi. We also show that for an acyclic non-Dynkin quiver Q, the minimal value of gldim is 1. Our philosophy is that the infimum of gldim on Stab𝒟 is the global dimension for the triangulated category 𝒟 . We explain how this notion could shed light on the contractibility conjecture of the space of stability conditions.
K-stability of special Gushel-Mukai manifolds

Abstract:Gushel-Mukai manifolds are specific families of $n$-dimensional Fano manifolds of Picard rank $1$ and index $n-2$ where $3\leq n \leq 6$. A Gushel-Mukai $n$-fold is either ordinary, i.e. a hyperquadric section of a quintic Del Pezzo $(n+1)$-fold, or special, i.e. it admits a double cover over the quintic Del Pezzo $n$-fold branched along an ordinary Gushel-Mukai $(n-1)$-fold. In this paper, we prove that a general special Gushel-Mukai $n$-fold is K-stable for every $3\leq n\leq 6$. Furthermore, we give a description of the first and last walls of the K-moduli of the pair $(M,cQ)$, where $M$ is the quintic Del Pezzo fourfold (or fivefold) and $Q$ is an ordinary Gushel-Mukai threefold (or fourfold). Besides, we compute $\delta$-invariants of quintic Del Pezzo fourfolds and fivefolds which were shown to be K-unstable by K. Fujita, and show that they admit Kähler-Ricci solitons.

Abstract:Let $G_0$ be a reductive group over $\mathbb{F}_p$ with simply connected derived subgroup, (geometrically) connected center and Coxeter number $h+1$. We extend Jantzen's generic decomposition pattern from $(2h-1)$-generic to $h$-generic Deligne--Lusztig representations, which is optimal. We also prove several results on the ``obvious'' Jordan--Hölder factors of general Deligne--Lusztig representations. As an application we improve the weight elimination result of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1610.04819" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1610.04819">arXiv:1610.04819</a> [math.NT]

Zero-dimensional affine Deligne--Lusztig varieties

Abstract:In this paper, we study the affine Deligne--Lusztig variety $X(\mu,b)_K$ and classify all quadruples $(\mathbf{G}, \mu, b, K)$ with $\dim X(\mu, b)_K=0$. This question was first asked by Rapoport in 2005, who also made an explicit conjecture in the hyperspecial level. We prove that $\dim X(\mu,b)_K=0$ if and only if, up to certain Hodge-Newton decomposition condition, the pair $(\mathbf{G}, \{\mu\})$ is of extended Lubin-Tate type. We also give a combinatorial description of this condition by the essential gap function on $B(\mathbf{G})$ and the $\mu$-ordinary condition for the generic Newton stratum.

The Tate Conjecture for even dimensional Gushel-Mukai varieties in characteristic $p\geq 5$

Abstract:We study Gushel-Mukai (GM) varieties of dimension 4 or 6 in characteristic $p$. Our main result is the Tate conjecture for all such varieties over finitely generated fields of characteristic $p\geq 5$. In the case of GM sixfolds, we follow the method used by Madapusi Pera in his proof of the Tate conjecture for K3 surfaces. As input for this, we prove a number of basic results about GM sixfolds, such as the fact that there are no nonzero global vector fields. For GM fourfolds, we prove the Tate conjecture by reducing it to the case of GM sixfolds by making use of the notion of generalised partners plus the fact that generalised partners in characteristic 0 have isomorphic Chow motives in the middle degree. Several steps in the proofs rely on results in characteristic 0 that are proven our paper "Algebraic cycles on Gushel-Mukai varieties", Épijournal Géométrie Algébrique, Volume spécial en l'honneur de Claire Voisin, 2024.

Abstract:We give a description of the cohomology groups of the structure sheaf on smooth compactifications $\overline{X}(w)$ of Deligne--Lusztig varieties $X(w)$ for ${\rm GL}_n$, for all elements $w$ in the Weyl group. As a consequence, we obtain the ${\rm mod}\ p^m$ and integral $p$-adic étale cohomology of $\overline{X}(w)$. Moreover, using our result for $\overline{X}(w)$ and a spectral sequence associated to a stratification of $\overline{X}(w)$, we deduce the ${\rm mod}\ p^m$ and integral $p$-adic étale cohomology with compact support of $X(w)$. In our proof of the main theorem, in addition to considering the Demazure--Hansen smooth compactifications of $X(w)$, we show that a similar class of constructions provide smooth compactifications of $X(w)$ in the case of ${\rm GL}_n$. Furthermore, we show in the appendix that the Zariski closure of $X(w)$, for any connected reductive group $G$ and any $w$, has pseudo-rational singularities.

Abstract:The compactification $\overline M_{1,3}$ of the Gieseker moduli space of surfaces of general type with $K_X^2 =1 $ and $\chi(X)=3$ in the moduli space of stable surfaces parametrises so-called stable I-surfaces. We classify all such surfaces which are 2-Gorenstein into four types using a mix of algebraic and geometric techniques. We find a new divisor in the closure of the Gieseker component and a new irreducible component of the moduli space.

Abstract:Let k be an odd positive integer, L a lattice on a regular positive definite k -dimensional quadratic space over ℚ , N_L the level of L , and ℳ(L) be the linear space of θ -series attached to the distinct classes in the genus of L . We prove that, for an odd prime p|N_L , if L_p=L_p,1 L_p,2 , where L_p,1 is unimodular, L_p,2 is ( p )-modular, and ℚ_pL_p,2 is anisotropic, then ℳ(L;p):= ℳ(L) +T_p^2. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_p^2 . If L_2 is isometric to ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ 2ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1; 1 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ with ε∈ℤ_2^× and κ :=k-1/2 , then ℳ(L;2):=T_2^2.ℳ(L)+T_2^2^2. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_2^2 . Furthermore, we determine some invariant subspaces of the cusp forms for the Hecke operators.

Abstract:The nilpotent cone of a simple Lie algebra is partitioned into locally closed subvarieties called special pieces, each containing exactly one special orbit. Lusztig conjectured that each special piece is the quotient of some smooth variety by a precise finite group $H$, a result proved for the classical types by Kraft and Procesi. The present work is about exceptional types. Our main result is a local version of Lusztig's conjecture: the intersection of a special piece with a Slodowy slice transverse to the minimal orbit in the piece is isomorphic to the quotient of a vector space by $H$. Along the way, we complete our previous work on the generic singularities of nilpotent orbit closures, by providing proofs for the last two `exotic' singularities. Four further, non-isolated, exotic singularities are studied: we show that quotients $\overline{{\mathcal 0}_{\text{mini}}(\mathfrak{so}_8)}/\mathfrak{S}_4$, $S^2({\mathbb C}^2/\mu_3)$, $S^3({\mathbb C}^2/\mu_2)$ and $\overline{{\mathcal 0}_{\text{mini}}(\mathfrak{sl}_3)}/\mathfrak{S}_4$ occur as Slodowy slice singularities between nilpotent orbits in types $F_4$, $E_6$, $E_7$ and $E_8$ respectively. We also extend, to fields other than ${\mathbb C}$, the results of Brylinski and Kostant on shared orbit pairs. In the course of our analysis, we discover a shared pair which is missing from Brylinski and Kostant's classification.

Denominators in Lusztig's asymptotic Hecke algebra via the Plancherel formula

Abstract:Let $\tilde{W}$ be an extended affine Weyl group, $\mathbf{H}$ be the corresponding affine Hecke algebra over the ring $\mathbb{C}[\mathbf{q}^\frac{1}{2}, \mathbf{q}^{-\frac{1}{2}}]$, and $J$ be Lusztig's asymptotic Hecke algebra, viewed as a based ring with basis $\{t_w\}$. Viewing $J$ as a subalgebra of the $(\mathbf{q}^{-\frac{1}{2}})$-adic completion of $\mathbf{H}$ via Lusztig's map $\phi$, we use Harish-Chandra's Plancherel formula for $p$-adic groups to show that the coefficient of $T_x$ in $t_w$ is a rational function of $\mathbf{q}$, with denominator depending only on the two-sided cell containing $w$, and dividing a power of the Poincaré polynomial of the finite Weyl group. As an application, we conjecture that these denominators encode more detailed information about the failure of the Kazhdan-Lusztig classification at roots of the Poincaré polynomial than is currently known. Along the way, we show that upon specializing $\mathbf{q}=q>1$, the map from $J$ to the Harish-Chandra Schwartz algebra is injective. As an application of injectivity, we give a novel criterion for an Iwahori-spherical representation to have fixed vectors under a larger parahoric subgroup in terms of its Kazhdan-Lusztig parameter.

Gelfand-Kirillov dimension for mod $p$ representations of $p$-adic unitary groups of rank 2

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and $F/F^+$ a CM extension of a totally real field such that every place of $F^+$ above $p$ is unramified and inert in $F$. We fix a finite place $v$ of $F^+$ above $p$, and let $\overline{r}: \textrm{Gal}(\overline{F^+}/F^+) \longrightarrow {}^C\textrm{U}_{1,1}(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ be a modular $L$-parameter valued in the $C$-group of a rank 2 unitary group associated to $F/F^+$. We assume $\overline{r}$ is semisimple and sufficiently generic at $v$. Using recent results of Breuil--Herzig--Hu--Morra--Schraen along with our previous work, we prove that certain admissible smooth $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$-representations of the $p$-adic unitary group $\textrm{U}_{1,1}(F^+_v)$ associated to $\overline{r}$ in spaces of mod $p$ automorphic forms have Gelfand--Kirillov dimension $[F^+_v:\mathbb{Q}_p]$.

On the existence of analytic families of G-stable lattices and their reductions

Abstract:In this article, we prove the existence of rigid analytic families of $G$-stable lattices with locally constant reductions inside families of representations of a topologically compact group $G$, extending a result of Hellman obtained in the semi-simple residual case. Implementing this generalization in the context of Galois representations, we prove a local constancy result for reductions modulo prime powers of trianguline representations of generic dimension $d$. Moreover, we present two explicit applications. First, in dimension two, we extend to a prime power setting and to the whole rigid projective line a recent result of Bergdall, Levin and Liu concerning reductions of semi-stable representations of $\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_p / \mathbb{Q}_p)$ with fixed Hodge-Tate weights and large $\mathcal{L}$-invariant. Second, in dimension $d$, let $V_n$ be a sequence of crystalline representations converging in a certain geometric sense to a crystalline representation $V$. We show that for any refined version $(V, \sigma)$ of $V$ (or equivalently for any chosen triangulation of its attached $(\varphi, \Gamma)$-module $D_{\text{rig}} (V)$ over the Robba ring), there exists a sequence of refinement $\sigma_n$ of each of the $V_n$ such that the limit as refined representations $(V_n , \sigma_n )$ converges to the $(V, \sigma)$. This result does not hold under the weaker assumption that $V_n$ converges only uniformly $p$-adically to $V$ (in the sense of Chenevier, Khare and Larsen).

Character sheaves on the semi-stable locus of a group compactification

Abstract:We study the intermediate extension of the character sheaves on an adjoint group to the semi-stable locus of its wonderful compactification. We show that the intermediate extension can be described by a direct image construction. As a consequence, we show that the “ordinary” restriction of a character sheaf on the compactification to a “semi-stable stratum” is a shift of semisimple perverse sheaf and is closely related to Lusztig's restriction functor (from a character sheaf on a reductive group to a direct sum of character sheaves on a Levi subgroup). We also provide a (conjectural) formula for the boundary values inside the semi-stable locus of an irreducible character of a finite group of Lie type, which gives a partial answer to a question of Springer (2006) [21]. This formula holds for Steinberg character and characters coming from generic character sheaves. In the end, we verify Lusztig's conjecture Lusztig (2004) [16, 12.6] inside the semi-stable locus of the wonderful compactification.
