Abstract:An adjoint Chevalley group of rank at least 2 over a rational algebra (or a similar ring), its elementary subgroup, and the corresponding Lie ring have the same automorphism group. These automorphisms are explicitly described.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that every automorphism of a Chevalley group (or its elementary subgroup) with root system of rank > 1 over a commutative ring (with 1/2 for the systems A2,F4,Bl,Cl ; with 1/2 and 1/3 for the system G2 ) is standard, i.e., it is a composition of ring, inner, central and graph automorphisms. This result finalizes description of automorphisms of Chevalley groups. However, the restrictions on invertible elements can be a topic of further considerations. We provide also some model-theoretic applications of this description.

Abstract:In this paper we consider Chevalley groups over commutative rings with~$1$, constructed by irreducible root systems of rank $>1$. We always suppose that for the systems $A_2, B_\ell, C_\ell, F_4, G_2$ our rings contain $1/2$ and for the system $G_2$ also $1/3$. Under these assumptions we prove that the central quotients of Chevalley groups are regularly bi-interpretable with the corresponding rings, the class of all central quotients of Chevalley groups of a given type is elementarily definable and even finitely axiomatizable (see Definition~2.2). The same holds for adjoint Chevalley groups and for bondedly generated Chevalley groups. We also give an example of Chevalley group with infinite center, which is not bi-interpretable with the corresponding ring and is elementarily equivalent to a group that is not a Chevalley group itself.

Abstract:Let G \mathsf G be a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over R \mathbb R , and let C : G → G C: \mathsf G\rightarrow \mathsf G be a fundamental Chevalley involution. We show that for every g ∈ G ( R ) g\in \mathsf G(\mathbb R) , C ( g ) C(g) is conjugate to g − 1 g^{-1} in the group G ( R ) \mathsf G(\mathbb R) . Similar result on the Lie algebras is also obtained.

Abstract:Let $G(\mathbb{Q})$ be a simply connected Chevalley group over $\mathbb{Q}$ corresponding to a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $V$ be a finite dimensional faithful highest weight $\mathfrak g$-module and let $V_\mathbb{Z}$ be a Chevalley $\mathbb{Z}$-form of $V$. Let $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z})$ be the subgroup of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ that preserves $V_{\mathbb{Z}}$ and let $G(\mathbb{Z})$ be the group of $\mathbb{Z}$-points of $G(\mathbb{Q})$. Then $G(\mathbb{Q})$ is \emph{integral} if $G(\mathbb{Z})=\Gamma(\mathbb{Z})$. Chevalley's original work constructs a scheme-theoretic integral form of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ which equals $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z})$. Here we give a representation-theoretic proof of integrality of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ using only the action of $G(\mathbb{Q})$ on $V$, rather than the language of group schemes. We discuss the challenges and open problems that arise in trying to extend this to a proof of integrality for Kac-Moody groups over $\mathbb{Q}$.

Characters for extended affine Lie algebras; a combinatorial approach

Abstract:The behavior of objects associated with general extended affine Lie algebras is typically distinct from their counterparts in affine Lie algebras. Our research focuses on studying characters and Cartan automorphisms, which appear in the study of Chevalley involutions and Chevalley bases for extended affine Lie algebras. We show that for almost all extended affine Lie algebras, any finite order Cartan automorphism is diagonal, and its corresponding combinatorial map is a character.

Abstract:Let A be a symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix, which is not of finite or affine type. Let 𝔤 be the corresponding Kac-Moody algebra over a commutative ring R with 1. We construct an infinite-dimensional group G_V(R) analogous to a finite-dimensional Chevalley group over R. We use a ℤ-form of the universal enveloping algebra of 𝔤 and a ℤ-form of an integrable highest-weight module V. We construct groups G_V(ℤ) analogous to arithmetic subgroups in the finite-dimensional case. We also consider a universal representation-theoretic Kac-Moody group G and its completion G. For the completion we prove a Bruhat decomposition G(ℚ)=G(ℤ)B(ℚ) over ℚ, and that the arithmetic subgroup Γ(ℤ) coincides with the subgroup of integral points G(ℤ)

Abstract:Abstract The automorphism group of an affine variety is an ind‐group. Its Lie algebra is canonically embedded into the Lie algebra of vector fields on . We study the relations between subgroups of and Lie subalgebras of . We show that a subgroup generated by a family of connected algebraic subgroups of is algebraic if and only if the Lie algebras generate a finite‐dimensional Lie subalgebra of . Extending a result by Cohen–Draisma (Transform. Groups 8 (2003), no. 1, 51–68), we prove that a locally finite Lie algebra generated by locally nilpotent vector fields is algebraic, that is, for an algebraic subgroup . Along the same lines, we prove that if a subgroup generated by finitely many connected algebraic groups is solvable, then it is an algebraic group. We also show that a unipotent algebraic subgroup has derived length . This result is based on the following triangulation theorem: Every unipotent algebraic subgroup of with a dense orbit in is conjugate to a subgroup of the de Jonquières subgroup . Furthermore, we give an example of a free subgroup generated by two algebraic elements such that the Zariski closure is a free product of two nested commutative closed unipotent ind‐subgroups. To any affine ind‐group , one can associate a canonical ideal . It is linearly generated by the tangent spaces for all algebraic subsets that are smooth in . It has the important property that for a surjective homomorphism , the induced homomorphism is surjective as well. Moreover, if is a subnormal closed ind‐subgroup of finite codimension, then has finite codimension in .

Abstract:In finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras and affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras, Chevalley involutions are crucial ingredients of the modular theory. Towards establishing the modular theory for extended affine Lie algebras, we investigate the existence of ``Chevalley involutions" for Lie tori and extended affine Lie algebras. We first discuss how to lift a Chevalley involution from the centerless core which is characterized to be a centerless Lie torus to the core and then to the entire extended affine Lie algebra. We then prove that each centerless Lie torus of reduced type admits a Chevalley involution.

Abstract:Let X denote the restricted Lie superalgebras of Cartan type W, S, H, or K over a field of characteristic p > 3, and H the corresponding underlying superalgebra of X. Employing the invariance of the filtration of X we construct an isomorphism of Aut X to Aut (W : X), the admissible automorphism group of the associative super-commutative superalgebra H. Moreover, it is proved that the group isomorphism above maps the standard normal series of Aut X to the one of Aut (H : X), and also maps the homogeneous automorphism group of X to the admissible homogeneous automorphism group of H.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a smooth, projective, geometrically integral curve defined over a perfect field $\mathbb{F}$. Let $k=\mathbb{F}(\mathcal{C})$ be the function field of $\mathcal{C}$. Let $\mathbf{G}$ be a split simply connected semisimple $\mathbb{Z}$-group scheme. Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite set of places of $\mathcal{C}$. In this paper, we investigate on the conjugacy classes of maximal unipotent subgroups of $\mathcal{S}$-arithmetic subgroups. These are parameterized thanks to the Picard group of $\mathcal{O}_{\mathcal{S}}$ and the rank of $\mathbf{G}$. Furthermore, these maximal unipotent subgroups can be realized as the unipotent part of natural stabilizer, which are the stabilizers of sectors of the associated Bruhat-Tits building. We decompose these natural stabilizers in terms of their diagonalisable part and unipotent part, and we precise the group structure of the diagonalisable part.

Abstract:Let $D$ be a bounded domain in $C^n$. By the theorem of H.~Cartan, the group $Aut(D)$ of all biholomorphic automorphisms of $D$ has a unique structure of a real Lie group such that the action $Aut(D)\times D\to D$ is real analytic. This structure is defined by the embedding $C_v\colon Aut(D)\hookrightarrow D\times Gl_n(C)$, $f\mapsto (f(v), f_{*v})$, where $v\in D$ is arbitrary. Here we restrict our attention to the class of domains $D$ defined by finitely many polynomial inequalities. The appropriate category for studying automorphism of such domains is the Nash category. Therefore we consider the subgroup $Aut_a(D)\subset Aut(D)$ of all algebraic biholomorphic automorphisms which in many cases coincides with $Aut(D)$. Assume that $n>1$ and $D$ has a boundary point where the Levi form is non-degenerate. Our main result is theat the group $Aut_a(D)$ carries a unique structure of an affine Nash group such that the action $Aut_a(D)\times D\to D$ is Nash. This structure is defined by the embedding $C_v\colon Aut_a(D)\hookrightarrow D\times Gl_n(C)$ and is independent of the choice of $v\in D$.

Abstract:Let G be a reductive algebraic group over a field of prime characteristic. One can associate to G (or subgroups thereof) its Lie algebra, its Frobenius kernels, and the finite Chevalley group of points over a finite field. The representation theories of these structures are highly interconnected. This expository article will focus specifically on the cohomology theories of these structures and the relationships between them with the aim of highlighting a few key developments over the past 20 years and related open questions.

Abstract:We complete the program for determining the full automorphism groups of all parafermion vertex operator algebras associated with simple Lie algebras and positive integral levels. We show that the full automorphism group of the parafermion vertex operator algebra is isomorphic to the automorphism group of the associated root system for the remaining cases: (i) the level is at least $3$; (ii) the level is $2$ and the simple Lie algebra is non simply laced.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{G}$ be a reductive Chevalley group scheme (defined over $\mathbb{Z}$). Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a smooth, projective, geometrically integral curve over a field $\mathbb{F}$. Let $P$ be a closed point on $\mathcal{C}$. Let $A$ be the ring of functions that are regular outside $\lbrace P \rbrace$. The fraction field $k$ of $A$ has a discrete valuation $\nu=\nu_{P}: k^{\times} \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}$ associated to $P$. In this work, we study the action of the group $ \textbf{G}(A)$ of $A$-points of $\mathbf{G}$ on the Bruhat-Tits building $\mathcal{X}=\mathcal{X}(\textbf{G},k,\nu_{P})$ in order to describe the structure of the orbit space $ \textbf{G}(A)\backslash \mathcal{X}$. We obtain that this orbit space is the ``gluing'' of a closed connected CW-complex with some sector chambers. The latter are parametrized by a set depending on the Picard group of $\mathcal{C} \smallsetminus \{P\}$ and on the rank of $\mathbf{G}$. Moreover, we observe that any rational sector face whose tip is a special vertex contains a subsector face that embeds into this orbit space.
