Abstract:According to the recent revision of the theory of thermal radiation, thermal black-body radiation has an induced origin. We show that in single-bubble sonoluminescence thermal radiation is emitted by a spherical resonator, coincident with the sonoluminescing bubble itself, instead of the ensemble of elementary resonators emitting thermal black-body radiation in the case of open gaseous media. For a given wavelength, the diameter of the resonator is fixed, and this explains the very high constancy in phase of light flashes from the sonoluminesing bubble, which is better than the constancy of period of a driving acoustic wave.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to simulate the island - like phenomenon of polycrystalline nano - films during heat treatment by the Monte Carlo method. Specifically, the author focuses on the evolution of nano - islands formed during the heat treatment of polycrystalline films deposited on different substrates (defect - free single - crystal substrates and defective single - crystal substrates).
### Main problems
1. **Morphological changes of polycrystalline films during heat treatment**:
- The author hopes to study how islands are formed in polycrystalline films during heat treatment through Monte Carlo simulation and explore the morphological characteristics of these islands.
2. **Influence of substrate defects on film evolution**:
- Study the influence of different types of substrates (defect - free and defective) on the island - like process of polycrystalline films, especially whether defective substrates will lead to more significant dewetting phenomena.
3. **Comparison between theoretical models and experimental results**:
- Compare the nano - island morphology predicted by numerical simulation with experimental results to verify the validity of the model.
### Model characteristics
- **Discontinuous representation**: Different from the traditional continuous elastic model, this model adopts a discontinuous representation method based on the Solid on Solid (SOS) model.
- **Energy calculation**: Considered multiple energy factors such as elastic strain energy, lattice mismatch energy, and grain boundary energy.
- **Monte Carlo simulation**: Use the Monte Carlo method to simulate the height change of each domain and the change of crystallographic orientation in the film.
### Key formulas
1. **Mass transfer mechanism**:
\[
(J(s + ds)-J(s))\Omega dt=\frac{\partial z}{\partial s}
\]
where \(J(s + ds)-J(s)\) is the number of atoms transferred per unit time, \(\partial z\) is the change in film thickness, \(s\) is the surface position, and \(\Omega\) is the volume.
2. **Diffusion flux**:
\[
J = - D_s\gamma\Omega^{1/3}\frac{\nabla k}{k_BT}
\]
where \(D_s\) is the surface diffusion constant, \(\gamma\) is the surface tension, \(\Omega\) is the characteristic volume, \(k_B\) is the Boltzmann constant, \(T\) is the absolute temperature, and \(k\) is the surface curvature.
3. **Height change relationship**:
\[
\Delta h=\sqrt{\frac{\ell^2D_s\gamma\Delta t}{k_BT}}
\]
where \(\ell\) is the characteristic average size of the domain, and \(\Delta t\) is the time interval.
4. **Energy calculation**:
\[
E_h = Y(1 +\nu)\ell^2\sqrt{\frac{D_s\gamma\Delta t}{k_BT}}(h(t+\Delta t)-h(t))
\]
where \(Y\) is the Young's modulus, \(\nu\) is the Poisson's ratio, and \(h(t +\Delta t)-h(t)\) is the displacement in the normal direction.
### Conclusion
Through Monte Carlo simulation, the author successfully reproduced the island - like phenomenon of polycrystalline films after heat treatment observed in the experiment, especially on defective substrates, where the dewetting phenomenon is more significant. This indicates that this model can effectively describe the morphological evolution of polycrystalline films during heat treatment and provides theoretical support for understanding the physical behavior of films.
