Abstract:BaF2 nanoparticles were synthesized via a mild sonochemical route from an aqueous solution of Ba(NO3)(2) and NH4F in the presence of complexing agent EDTA under ambient air. XRD, TEM and SEM were used to characterize the structure and shape of the product. The as-prepared BaF2 nanocrystals crystallize in a cubic structure and have an average crystal size of 10 nm. The amount of EDTA plays an important role in controlling the shape and size of the product. Comparative experiments using CTAB as surfactant instead of complexing agent EDTA showed cubic-shaped product with diameter of 400 similar to 500 nm.

Abstract:A novel micronization technique using solventing-out crystallization was described for the preparation of submicron BaSO4 particles. The submicron BaSO4 particles were characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), laser diffraction-based particle size analyzer and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The product was obtained as spherical particles with mean sizes from 160 similar to 750 nm. The effects of feed mode, feed concentration, feed rate, agitation intensity and crystallization temperature in the solventing-out process were investigated. A well-efficiency dispersant was selected. The experimental results indicate that lower crystallization temperature, reversed feed mode, higher feed rate, controlling solution concentration to a certain extent and faster agitation rate will lead to producing smaller BaSO4 particles. Furthermore, the purity of submicron BaSO4 particles prepared by solventing-out crystallization is upon to 99.7%, and it indicates that the solventing-out crystallization is not only a micronization technique but also an excellent purification process.

Abstract:Bi2Fe4O9 (BFO) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method at a temperature as low as 100°C. The as-prepared powders, characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and physical property measurement system (PPMS), exhibited a pure BFO phase about 100nm size with uniform sheet-like shape and exhibited an AF order at room temperature. It was found that high alkali concentration and alkali ion Na+ played a key role in the formation of BFO nanoparticles at a low temperature of 100°C.

Abstract:The Ba 4 Ti 13 O 30 nanocrystals were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The Ba‐Ti precursor was prepared by mixing barium acetate and bis(ammonium lactate) titanium dihydroxide in deionized water with NaOH pH‐adjusting agent. In the Ba‐Ti precursor, NaOH concentration was 2.0 mol/L, and the concentrations of Ba 2+ and Ti 4+ ions were 0.023 and 0.077 mol/L, respectively. As the Ba‐Ti precursor was heated in the autoclave at 260°C for 20 hours with vigorous stirring, the single‐crystalline Ba 4 Ti 13 O 30 nanocrystals were successfully synthesized.

Abstract:A new method has been developed to synthesize barium titanate (BaTiO3) nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution under ambient conditions at room temperature. The as-prepared BaTiO3 nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution TEM, and selected area electron diffraction. On the basis of the characterizations, it was found that the particle size could be easily tuned by adjusting the experimental parameters, such as the solvent component and reaction time. The basicity of the organic solvent was considered to play an important role in the room-temperature synthesis and the solvent molecules had a strong influence on the crystal growth of BaTiO3 nanoparticles. The BaTiO3 nanoparticles obtained were well dispersed and possessed a cubic perovskite structure at room temperature.

Abstract:The size-controlled synthesis of barium titanate (BaTiO3) nanocrystals has been achieved by a hydrothermal route with Fe doping and ethylenediamine (en) addition. The as-synthesized BaTiO3 nanocrystals were characterized with XRD, SEM, TEM, and HRTEM. The results revealed that the average particle sizes of Fe-doped samples were reduced compared to that of the sample without Fe doping, suggesting that the doping ions inhibited the crystal growth. It was also found that the average particle size decreased as the Fe doping concentration increased. Furthermore, the addition of en, which served as both solvent and capping agent, could suppress the particle growth and lead to the change in particle shape from sphere to cube by a confined effect.

Abstract:In this study, we report a novel and facile synthesis approach of boron-rich transition metal borides such as LaB6 and TiB2 through reaction of lithium borohydride (LiBH4) with corresponding metal hydroxide or oxide at temperatures below 600 °C. A fast endothermic reaction occurred at around 350 °C in the ball milled mixture of 6LiBH4 + La(OH)3 or 12LiBH4 + La2O3, efficiently producing crystalline LaB6 nanoparticles of a size smaller than 100 nm. In comparison, the reaction of LiBH4 with TiO2 proceeded within a wide temperature range from 120 °C to 500 °C, resulting in the formation of nanocrystalline TiB2 of only a few nanometers. This synthesis method proved to be a facile and general route to fabricate nanosized transition metal borides.

Abstract:CdS submicro- and microspheres self-assembled from nanoparticles are prepared by convenient hydrothermal process through the reactions of CdCl2 center dot 2.5H(2)O and Na2S2O3 center dot 5H(2)O in aqueous solution at a relatively low temperature (100 degrees C). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses indicate that the products were hexagonal CdS. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation reveal that the products consist of a large number of submicro- and microspheres which are self-assembled from nanoparticles with sizes of about 10-20 nm. The Raman spectra of the spheres are presented. The influencing factors about the morphologies of product are discussed, too. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Mesoporous SrTiO3 spheres were synthesized via the self-assembly of nanocrystallites in the presence of Na2SiO3 center dot 9H(2)O through a hydrothermal process. The as-prepared samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and nitrogen gas sorption isotherms. The results revealed that the mesoporous spheres consisted of SrTiO3 nanocrystallites with an amorphous silicate shell and mesopores formed among them. Na2SiO3 center dot 9H(2)O played an important role in the formation of the mesoporous SrTiO3 spheres. Based on the experimental results a possible formation mechanism of the mesoporous SrTiO3 spheres was preliminarily proposed.

Abstract:A BaF2 hollow nest-like nanostructure has been successfully synthesized, for the first time, via a facile sonochemical route from aqueous solution using EDTA as complexing reagent and CTAB as surfactant. Reaction conditions, such as concentrations of complexing reagent and surfactant, were found to have a close relation to the morphologies of final products. The ultrasound-induced self-assembly growth procedure has been proposed for the possible formation mechanism. The BaF2 hollow structures showed enhanced photoluminescence compared to the solid structure.

Abstract:BiFeO3 (BFO) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method assisted by a mineralizer at as low a temperature as 200 degrees C. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscope, and physical property measurement system. It was found that KNO3 as a mineralizer played an important role in the formation of BFO nanoparticles, and the as-synthesized BFO nanoparticles showed an enhanced ferromagnetism at room temperature.

Abstract:A novel solvothermal route has been developed to synthesize highly dispersed nanocrystalline barium titanate (BaTiO3), using a mixture of ethylenediamine and ethanolamine as a solvent. The as-synthesized BaTiO3 nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. Based on the results of characterizations, the organic solvent was found to influence strongly the crystal growth and dispersibility of BaTiO3. The BaTiO3 nanoparticles obtained were highly dispersed and crystalline with a cubic perovskite structure. The particle size derived from the TEM ranged from 5 to 20 nm.

Abstract:The Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)/butanol/heptane/water microemulsion system was used to synthesize BaF_2 nanoparticles.The influences of the mass ratio of butanol to CTAB,the content of heptane and water,and the species of solute in water phase on the stability of microemulsion system and resultant BaF_2 particle size and size distribution were investigated.10nm BaF_2 particles well monodispersed and ball-shaped were synthesized by reaction of stable Ba(NO_3)_2 microemulsion and NH_4F microemulsion.It was found that BaF_2 particle size and size distribution decrease with the mass ratio of CTAB to water increasing.

Abstract:The single-crystalline BaTi5O11 nanocrystals were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The Barium acetate (Ba(CH3COO)(2)) and tetrabutyl titanate (Ti(C4H9O)(4)) were used as the starting materials, and the NaOH was used as a pH-adjusting agent. In the aqueous precursor, the NaOH concentration was 2.0 mol/L, and the concentrations of Ba2+ and Ti4+ ions were 0.01 and 0.09 mol/L, respectively. As the precursor was heated at 280 degrees C for 20 h by the hydrothermal method, the white precipitate was formed. The white precipitate was confirmed to be the elongated BaTi5O11 nanocrystals. The single-phase BaTi5O11 nanocrystals were successfully synthesized. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Spherical CeO2 submicron particles were synthesized by a facile PVP-assisted hydrothermal method. By the analysis of XRD, FESEM, TEM and selected area electron diffraction (SAED), we confirmed that the as-obtained spherical CeO2 particles were formed by the oriented aggregation of fluorite CeO2 nanocrystals. The formation mechanism was discussed by varying synthetic parameters such as reaction temperature, and the concentration of cerium salt. In our synthetic process, Ce(NO3)3·6H2O was first hydrolyzed to rod-like organic cerium salt by the assistance of PVP, then the organic cerium salt was decomposed into CeO2 nanocrystals. Finally, spherical CeO2 particles were formed by the oriented aggregation of these CeO2 nanocrystals through the interaction between the same crystal planes of different nanocrystals and the assistance of PVP.

Abstract:The solid BaSO4 microspheres, mainly consisting of quasi-spherical nanoparticles, were successfully synthesized by precipitating Ba2+ ions with SO42− ions, which were generated from the reduction of K2S2O8 in the presence of EDTA under N2 atmosphere by γ-irradiation. It was found that the controlled release of SO42− played an important role in the formation of the microspheres.

Abstract:The nonstoichimetric Ba0.92Y2.15F8.29 submicrospheres that piled up by nanoparticles have been prepared via a solution-based method in a hydrothermal environment. The size distribution of the submicrospheres could be tuned by varying the amount of BaCl2. The fluoride source NaBF4 plays an important role in the formation of the submicrospheres. The chelator ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid regulates the growth of the primary nanoparticles as well as the aggregated submicrospheres. The photoluminescence properties of different concentrations of Eu3+-doped Ba0.92Y2.15F8.29 were investigated and the results revealed that the 8% concentration of Eu3+ ions is the optimum doping concentration and the Y3+ ions occupy the site of inversion symmetry.

Abstract:Spherical and cubic BaSO4 nanoparticles with barite structure were synthesized in Triton X-100/n-hexanol/ cyclohexane/water water-in-oil microemulsions by mixing two separately prepared microemulsions containing (NH4)(2)SO4 and Ba(OAc)(2), respectively. The effects of water content and the presence of (NH4)(2)SO4 on the size of the microemulsion droplets were investigated by dynamic light scattering. Particle characterization was accomplished by transmission electron microscopy and the effects of water content, holding time, surfactant content and reactant concentration on the particle characteristics were studied. Due to the cage-like nature of the microemulsion droplets, the size of the microemulsion droplets has a controlling effect upon the size of the particles prepared. As the water-to-surfactant molar ratio increases, both the particle size and its polydispersity increase in general. The particle shape was found to convert from spherical to cubic as the water content in the microemulsions increases. It has been shown that monodisperse cubic BaSO4 nanoparticles can be produced inside spherical microemulsion droplets under suitable conditions.
