Abstract:We present measurements of the forward-backward asymmetry in the angular distribution of leptons from decays of top quarks and antiquarks produced in proton-antiproton collisions. We consider the final state containing a lepton and at least three jets. The entire sample of data collected by the D0 experiment during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, is used. The asymmetry measured for reconstructed leptons is A(FB)(l) = (2.9 +/- 2.1(stat.)(-1.7)(+1.5) (syst.))%. When corrected for efficiency and resolution effects within the lepton rapidity coverage of vertical bar y(l)vertical bar < 1.5, the asymmetry is found to be A(FB)(l) = (4.2 +/- 2.3(stat.)(-2.0)(+1.7) (syst.))%. We examine the dependence of A(FB)(l) on the transverse momentum and rapidity of the lepton. Combination with the asymmetry measured in the final states containing two leptons yields A(FB)(l) = (4.2 +/- 2.0(stat.) +/- 1.4(syst.))%. The results are in agreement with predictions from the next-to-leading-order QCD generator MC@NLO, which predicts an asymmetry of A(FB)(l) = 2.0% for vertical bar y(l)vertical bar < 1.5.

Abstract:Using data collected with the CLEO-III detector at the CESR e+e- collider, we report on a first observation of the decay of the Upsilon(3S) to tau tau, and precisely measure the ratio of branching fractions of Upsilon(nS),n=1,2,3 to tau tau and mu mu final states, finding agreement with expectations from lepton universality. We derive absolute branching fractions for these decays, and also set a limit on the influence of a low mass CP-odd Higgs boson in the decay of the Upsilon(1S).

Abstract:We comment here on results of the project aimed at measuring the 7Be(n,x) reactions at SARAF, Israel, in 2016, posted by M. Gai in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1812.09914v1" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1812.09914v1">arXiv:1812.09914v1</a>] without the knowledge of parts of the collaboration and against the explicit veto of the collaborators and the administration of the Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland. We address both the experimental shortcomings and the drawbacks in project conduction. M. Gai's preprint is labeled as "on behalf of the SARAF Israel-US-Switzerland Collaboration"; the author list is given as a reference to another unpublished contribution (cited as [27], the NPA8 conference in June 2017 in Catania). However, M. Gai did never have the right to report on unpublished proprietary data of the entire collaboration, and he was not authorized to act "on behalf of the collaboration". The contribution is declared as "accepted for publication", but in fact was retracted during the refereeing process. After several careful data evaluations, we have to state that the results of these measurements are not trustworthy and neither the given experimental data basis nor the corresponding data analysis can be improved further. Therefore, we request to retract the posting [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1904.03023v1" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1904.03023v1">arXiv:1904.03023v1</a>].

Abstract:The Experimental Cavern North 3 (ECN3) is an underground experimental cavern on the CERN Prévessin site. ECN3 currently hosts the NA62 experiment, with a physics programme devoted to rare kaon decays and searches of hidden particles approved until Long Shutdown 3 (LS3). Several options are proposed on the longer term in order to make best use of the worldwide unique potential of the high-intensity/high-energy proton beam extracted from the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) in ECN3. The current status of their study by the CERN Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) Study Group is presented, including considerations on beam requirements and upgrades, detector R&D and construction, schedules and cost, as well as physics potential within the CERN and worldwide landscape.

Abstract:Measurements of inclusive production of the Lambda, Xi- and Xi*(1530) baryons in two-photon collisions with the L3 detector at LEP are presented. The inclusive differential cross sections for Lambda and Xi- are measured as a function of the baryon transverse momentum, pt, and pseudo-rapidity, eta. The mean number of Lambda, Xi- and Xi*(1530) baryons per hadronic two-photon event is determined in the kinematic range 0.4 GeV < pt< 2.5 GeV, |eta| < 1.2. Overall agreement with the theoretical models and Monte Carlo predictions is observed. A search for inclusive production of the pentaquark theta+(1540) in two-photon collisions through the decay theta+ -> proton K0s is also presented. No evidence for production of this state is found.

Abstract:The data collected by the L3+C muon spectrometer at the CERN Large Electron-Positron collider, LEP, have been used to search for short duration signals emitted by cosmic point sources. A sky survey performed from July to November 1999 and from April to November 2000 has revealed one single flux enhancement (chance probability = 2.6 x 10(-3)) between the 17th and 20th of August 2000 from a direction with a galactic longitude of (265.02 +/- 0.42)degrees and latitude of (55.58 +/- 0.24)degrees. Abstract:The characteristics of the L3 hadron calorimeter as realized in the observation of hadronic jets and other events from e+e− collisions at LEP are presented and discussed. The pattern-recognition algorithm utilizing the fine granulatiry of the calorimeter is described, and the observed overall resolution of 10.2% for hadron jets from Z decay is reported. The use of the calorimeter in providing information on muon energy losses is also noted.

Abstract:We report the first observation of the decay J/ψ→3γ. The signal has a statistical significance of 6σ and corresponds to a branching fraction of B(J/ψ→3γ)=(1.2±0.3±0.2)×10−5, in which the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The structure of nuclear systems derived from low momentum nucleon-nucleon potentials

Abstract:Various nuclear structure observables are evaluated employing low-momentum nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials $V_{\rm low-k}$ derived from the CD-Bonn and Nijmegen NN interactions $V_{NN}$. By construction, the high momentum modes of the original $V_{NN}$ are integrated out in $V_{\rm low-k}$, with the requirement that the deuteron binding energy and low energy phase shifts of $V_{NN}$ are exactly reproduced. Using this interaction, we evaluate the bulk properties (binding energy and saturation density) of nuclear matter and finite nuclei, in particular their dependence on the cut-off parameter. We also study the pairing gap and the residual interaction in nuclear matter in terms of the Landau parametrization. At low and medium densities, the HF and BHF binding energies for nuclear matter calculated with the $V_{\rm low-k}$'s derived from the CD-Bonn and Nijmegen potentials are nearly identical. The pairing gaps and Landau parameters derived from $V_{\rm low-k}$ are remarkably close to those given by the full-space $V_{NN}$. The $V_{\rm low-k}$ interactions, however, fail to reproduce the saturation property of nuclear matter at higher densities if the cut-off for the high momentum modes is assumed density independent.

Abstract:The article recently published by M. Gai et al. claims to reach conclusions from a collaborative experiment dedicated to the study of the 7Be(n,alpha) reaction. These claims were published with no authorization from key collaborators, including a PI of the experiment. The Authors of the present Comment reject the conclusions of M. Gai et et al. and condemn the scientific and ethical misconduct involved in their publication. A formal Comment, similarly expressing the Authors' rejection of these conclusions was submitted to EPJ Web of Conferences who published the above article.

Abstract:Following the L_nu/E_nu analysis in the preceding paper of the Fully Contained Muon Events resulting from the quasi-elastic scattering obtained from our numerical computer experiment. In the present paper, we carry out the analyses of L_nu/E_mu, L_mu/E_nu and L_mu/E_mu among four possible combinations of L and E. As the result of it, we show that we can not find the characteristis of maximum oscillation for neutrino oscillation among two of three, L_mu/E_mu and L_mu/E_nu. Only the L_nu/E_mu distribution can show something like maximum oscillation, however it cannot be detected owing to the neutral character of L_nu. It is concluded that the Super-Kamiokande Experiment could not have found the existence of the maximum oscillation for neutrino oscillation.

Abstract:Azimuthal single-spin asymmetries of leptoproduced pions and charged kaons were measured on a transversely polarized hydrogen target.
