Abstract: This paper gives an elementary proof of the result that the conjugacy classes of pairs (X,Y) of unimodular 2x2 complex matrices is an affine 3-space, parametrized by the traces of X, Y and XY. Identities for triples of elements of SL(2,C) are also derived.

Abstract:In this article we consider tame $ SL_3 $-friezes that arise by specializing a cluster of Plücker variables in the coordinate ring of the Grassmannian $ \mathscr{G}(3,n) $ to $ 1 $. We show how to calculate arbitrary entries of such friezes from the cluster in question. Let $ \mathscr{F} $ be such a cluster. We study the set $ \mathscr{F}_x $ of cluster variables in $ \mathscr{F} $ that share a given index $ x $ and derive a structure Theorem for $ \mathscr{F}_x $. These sets prove central to calculating the first and last non-trivial rows of the frieze. After that, simple recursive formulas can be used to calculate all remaining entries.

Abstract:Let $Y$ be a smooth quartic double solid regarded as a degree 4 hypersurface of the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,1,1,1,2)$. We study the multiplication of Hochschild-Serre algebra of its Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u(Y)$, via matrix factorization. As an application, we give a new disproof of Kuznetsov's Fano threefold conjecture.

Abstract:We introduce a family of 3-variable "Farey polynomials" that are closely connected with the geometry and topology of $3$-manifolds and orbifolds as they can be used to produce concrete realisations of the boundaries and local coordinates for one-complex-dimensional deformation spaces of Kleinian groups. As such, this family of polynomials has a number of quite remarkable properties. We study these polynomials from an abstract combinatorial viewpoint, including a recursive definition extending that which is known in the literature for the special case of manifolds, even beyond what the geometry predicts. We also present some intriguing examples and conjectures which we would like to bring to the attention of researchers interested in algebraic combinatorics and hypergeometric functions. The results in this paper additionally provide a practical approach to various classification problems for rank-two subgroups of PSL(2,C) since they, together with other recent work of the authors, make it possible to provide certificates that certain groups are discrete and free, and effective ways to identify relators.

Abstract:In this paper we describe some new algebraic features of the Gram matrices of complex Equiangular Tight Frames (ETF). This lead on the one hand to the nonexistence of several low dimensional complex ETFs; and on the other hand to the full algebraic classification of all complex ETFs in C^3. We use computer aided methods, in particular, Groebner basis computations to obtain these results.

Abstract:Let G a be subgroup of SL(2,C), the group of 2x2 matrices of determinant 1 with complex entries. Let h map onto h(G) be a homomorphism. We call h a trace preserving homomorphism if tr(h(g))=tr(g) for all g in G,where tr(g) is the trace of g. We solve the question of when a trace invariant homomorphism is a conjugation by some A in SL(2,R). Moreover, if the group G is finitely presented, this paper determines which traces of the generators and products of the generators determine the group up to conjugation. Incomplete solutions are known from the study of Fuchsian groups. Our theorems in this paper will expand the results in the literature to include Fuchsian Groups with elliptic elements, which have not been considered before. Moreover, they will be applicable to any class of subgroups of SL(2,C). The methods used will be relatively elementary and will indicate how many traces are needed, and the role that any relator equation plays in the parameterization by traces of a class of groups.

Abstract:We prove that a generic complete intersection Calabi–Yau threefold defined by sections of ample line bundles on a product of projective spaces admits a conifold transition to a connected sum of S3 × S3. In this manner, we obtain complex structures with trivial canonical bundles on some connected sums of S3 × S3. This construction is an analogue of that made by Friedman, Lu and Tian who used quintics in ℙ4.

Abstract:We confirm a conjecture of Friedland and Milnor: if two polynomial automorphisms f and g in Aut(C^2) with dynamical degree >1 are conjugate by some holomorphic diffeomorphism \phi of C^2, then \phi is a polynomial automorphism; thus, f and g are conjugate inside Aut(C^2). We also discuss a number of variations on this result.

Abstract:A nonzero element $x$ in a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with Lie product $[ , ]$ is called extremal if $[x,[x,y]]$ is a multiple of $x$ for all $y$. In this paper we characterize the (finitary) symplectic Lie algebras as simple Lie algebras generated by their extremal elements satisying the condition that any two noncommuting extremal elements $x,y$ generate an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and any third extremal element $z$ commutes with at least one extremal element in this $\mathfrak{sl}_2$.

Abstract:It is well known that in C[X], the product of two polynomials is equal to the product of their greatest common divisor and their least common multiple. In a recent paper, we proved a similar relation between the ranks of matrix polynomials. More precisely, the sum of the ranks of two matrix polynomials is equal to the sum of the rank of the greatest common divisor of the polynomials applied to the respective matrix and the rank of the least common multiple of the polynomials applied to the respective matrix. In this paper, we present three new proofs for this result. In addition to these, we present two more applications.

Abstract:Let X' be a smooth contractible three-dimensional affine algebraic variety with a free algebraic C_+ -action on it such that S =X'// C_+ is smooth. We prove that X' is isomorphic to $S \times \C$ and the action is induced by a translation on the second factor. As a consequence we show that any free algebraic C_+ -action on C^3 is a translation in a suitable coordinate system.

Abstract:Let F be a function field in two variables over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. The main part of this Bourbaki talk describes A. J. de Jong's proof (Duke Math. J. 123 (2004) 71-94) that index and exponent coincide for central simple algebras over F. The text follows the simplified approach sketched at the end of de Jong's paper. Applications to linear algebraic groups are given. A last section surveys results on the comparison between index and exponent for central simple algebras over a function field in one variable over a p-adic field, with application to the isotropy of quadratic forms over such fields. ----- `A toute classe dans le groupe de Brauer d'un corps F sont associ'es deux entiers, l'indice (degr'e d'un corps gauche repr'esentant la classe) et l'exposant (ordre de la classe dans le groupe de Brauer). Abstract:Bernstein-Schwarzman conjectured that the quotient of a complex affine space by an irreducible complex crystallographic group generated by reflections is a weighted projective space. The conjecture was proved by Schwarzman and Tokunaga-Yoshida in dimension 2 for almost all such groups, and for all crystallographic reflection groups of Coxeter type by Looijenga, Bernstein-Schwarzman and Kac-Peterson in any dimension. We prove that the conjecture is true for the crystallographic reflection group in dimension 3 for which the associated collineation group is Klein's simple group of order 168. In this case the quotient is the 3-dimensional weighted projective space with weights 1, 2, 4, 7. The main ingredient in the proof is the computation of the algebra of invariant theta functions. Unlike the Coxeter case, the invariant algebra is not free polynomial, and this was the major stumbling block.

Two- & Three-character solutions to MLDEs and Ramanujan-Eisenstein Identities for Fricke Groups

Abstract:In this work we extend the study of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2210.07186" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2210.07186">arXiv:2210.07186</a> by investigating two- and three-character MLDEs for Fricke groups at prime levels. We have constructed these higher-character MLDEs by using a $\mathit{novel}$ Serre-Ramanujan type derivative operator which maps $k$-forms to $(k+2)$-forms in $\Gamma^{+}_0(p)$. We found that this $\mathit{novel}$ derivative construction enabled us to write down a general prescription for obtaining $\mathit{Ramanujan-Eisenstein}$ identities for these groups. We discovered several $\mathit{novel}$ single-, two-, and three-character admissible solutions for Fricke groups at levels $2$ and $3$ after solving the MLDEs among which we have realized some in terms of Mckay-Thompson series and others in terms of modular forms of the corresponding Hecke groups. Among these solutions, we have identified interesting non-trivial bilinear identities. Furthermore, we could construct $\mathit{putative}$ partition functions for these theories based on these bilinear pairings, which could have a range of lattice interpretations. We also present and discuss modular re-parameterization of MLDE and their solutions for Fricke groups of prime levels.

Abstract:The positive linear maps Ads which send matrices x to s∗xs play important roles in quantum information theory as well as matrix theory. It was proved by [Marciniak M. Rank properties of exposed positive maps. Linear Multilinear Alg. 2013;61:970–975] that the map Ads generates an exposed ray of the convex cone of all positive linear maps.
