Abstract:We show how an idealized high-frequency VLBI can probe the metric of nearby supermassive black holes. No quantitative assumptions about plasma dynamics are used in the suggested diagnostic, which is based on strong-field lensing.

Abstract:We prove several rigidity theorems for elliptic genera associated to Toeplitz operators on odd dimensional spin manifolds. We also prove an equivariant odd index theorem for Dirac operators with involution parity and the Atiyah-Hirzebruch vanishing theorems for odd dimensional spin manifolds.

Abstract:We compute the canonical integrals associated to wheel graphs, and prove that they are proportional to odd zeta values. From this we deduce that wheel classes define explicit non-zero classes in: the locally finite homology of the general linear group $\GL_n(\ZZ)$ in both odd and even ranks, the homology of the moduli spaces of tropical curves, and the moduli space of tropical abelian varieties. We deduce the existence of a doubly infinite family of auxiliary classes in the even commutative graph complex.

Vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.
On the Real Zeroes of Half-integral Weight Hecke Cusp Forms

Abstract:We examine the distribution of zeroes of half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms on the manifold $\Gamma_0(4)\backslash\mathbb H$ near a cusp at infinity. In analogue of the Ghosh-Sarnak conjecture for classical holomorphic Hecke cusp forms, one expects that almost all of the zeroes sufficiently close to this cusp lie on two vertical geodesics $\Re(s)=-1/2$ and $\Re(s)=0$ as the weight tends to infinity. We show that, for $\gg_\varepsilon K^2/(\log K)^{3/2+\varepsilon}$ of the half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms in the Kohnen plus subspace with weight bounded by a large constant $K$, the number of such "real" zeroes grows almost at the expected rate. We also obtain a weaker lower bound for the number of real zeroes that holds for a positive proportion of forms. One of the key ingredients is the asymptotic evaluation of averaged first and second moments of quadratic twists of modular $L$-functions.

Abstract:In a celebrated unpublished manuscript Beilinson and Drinfeld quantize the Hitchin integrable system by showing that the global sections of critically twisted differential operators on the moduli stack of G-bundles on an algebraic curve is identified with the ring of regular functions on the space of G-opers; they deduce existence of an automorphic D-module corresponding to a local system carrying a structure of an oper. In this note we show for G=GL(n) that those results admit a short proof by reduction to positive characteristic, where they are deduced from generic Langlands duality established earlier by the first author and A. Braverman. The appendix contains a proof of some properties of the p-curvature map restricted to the space of opers.

Abstract:We prove that the number of limit cycles generated by a small non-conservative perturbation of a Hamiltonian polynomial vector field on the plane, is bounded by a double exponential of the degree of the fields. This solves the long-standing tangential Hilbert 16th problem. The proof uses only the fact that Abelian integrals of a given degree are horizontal sections of a regular flat meromorphic connection (Gauss-Manin connection) with a quasiunipotent monodromy group.

Abstract:Quantum integrable systems and their classical counterparts are considered. We show that the symplectic structure and invariant tori of the classical system can be deformed by a quantization parameter $\hbar$ to produce a new (classical) integrable system. The new tori selected by the $\hbar$-equidistance rule represent the spectrum of the quantum system up to $O(\hbar^\infty)$ and are invariant under quantum dynamics in the long-time range $O(\hbar^{-\infty})$. The quantum diffusion over the deformed tori is described. The analytic apparatus uses quantum action-angle coordinates explicitly constructed by an $\hbar$-deformation of the classical action-angles.

Abstract:Given a polynomial P of partial derivatives of the Kahler metric, expressed as a linear combination of directed multigraphs, we prove a simple criterion in terms of the coefficients for P to be an invariant polynomial, i.e. invariant under the transformation of coordinates. As applications, we prove an explicit composition formula for covariant differential operators under a canonical basis, also known as invariant differential operators in the case of bounded symmetric domains. We also prove a general explicit formula of star products on Kahler manifolds.

Abstract:The volume conjecture relates the quantum invariant and the hyperbolic geometry. Bonahon-Wong-Yang introduced a new version of the volume conjecture by using the intertwiners between two isomorphic irreducible representations of the skein algebra. The intertwiners are built from surface diffeomorphisms; they formulated the volume conjecture when diffeomorphisms are pseudo-Anosov. In this paper, we explicitly calculate all the intertwiners for the closed torus using an algebraic embedding from the skein algebra of the closed torus to a quantum torus, and show the limit superior related to the trace of these intertwiners is zero. Moreover, we consider the periodic diffeomorphisms for surfaces with negative Euler characteristic, and conjecture the corresponding limit is zero because the simplicial volume of the mapping tori for periodic diffeomorphisms is zero. For the once punctured torus, we make precise calculations for intertwiners and prove our conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a complete study of the zeros of Abelian integrals obtained by integrating the 1-form (α + βx + x2)ydx over the compact level curves of the hyperelliptic Hamiltonian [Formula: see text]. Such a family of compact level curves is bounded by a polycycle passing through a nilpotent cusp and a hyperbolic saddle of this hyperelliptic Hamiltonian system, which is not the exceptional family of ovals proposed by Gavrilov and Iliev. It is shown that the least upper bound for the number of zeros of the related hyperelliptic Abelian integral is two, and this least upper bound can be achieved for some values of parameters (α, β). This implies that the Abelian integral still has Chebyshev property for this nonexceptional family of ovals. Moreover, we derive the asymptotic expansion of Abelian integrals near a polycycle passing through a nilpotent cusp and a hyperbolic saddle in a general case.

Abstract:The general relation between Chekhov–Eynard–Orantin topological recursion and the intersection theory on the moduli space of curves, the deformation techniques in topological recursion, and the polynomiality properties with respect to deformation parameters can be combined to derive vanishing relations involving intersection indices of tautological classes. We apply this strategy to three different families of spectral curves and show they give vanishing relations for integrals involving Ω-classes. The first class of vanishing relations are genus-independent and generalises the vanishings found by Johnson–Pandharipande–Tseng [JPT11] and by the authors jointly with Do and Moskovsky [BDK + 22] . The two other classes of vanishing relations are of a different nature and depend on the genus.
