Abstract:We consider the class of all polynomial systems having a conic center (i.e. all periodic orbits round the center are conics). It is proved that all such systems have an isochronous center, and up to affine transformations of the coordinates, each such system coincides with linear isochronous center (S-0), quadratic isochronous centers (S-1),(S-2) due to Loud's classification [1] or a special kind of a cubic isochronous system (S-*). Moreover, it is proved that the upper bounds of the number of zeros of Abelian integrals of (S-1), (S-2) and (S-*) in case of time reversible, are linearly dependent on n, when such systems are Perturbed inside the class of all polynomial systems of degree n.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop a new method to estimate the smallest upper bound on the number of isolated zeros of Abelian integrals, and give an algebraic criterion for the case of Abelian integrals along energy level ovals of potential systems. As applications of our main result, we first obtain a criterion guaranteeing that two Abelian integrals have the Chebyshev property with accuracy one and give an example of hyperelliptic Abelian integrals. Then we get a criterion that any nontrivial linear combination of three Abelian integrals has at most two isolated zeros. Using this criterion we prove that the smallest upper bound is two for the number of isolated zeros of a non-algebraic Abelian integral along the oval (y2+12)1x2+ln⁡|x|−12=h with 0, which corresponds to the perturbation of a quadratic reversible system with two centers. Moreover, we derive all possible configurations of limit cycles from the Poincaré bifurcation of this perturbation. To our knowledge, these problems can not be solved by other known approaches.

Abstract:We prove that the number of limit cycles generated by a small non-conservative perturbation of a Hamiltonian polynomial vector field on the plane, is bounded by a double exponential of the degree of the fields. This solves the long-standing tangential Hilbert 16th problem. The proof uses only the fact that Abelian integrals of a given degree are horizontal sections of a regular flat meromorphic connection (Gauss-Manin connection) with a quasiunipotent monodromy group.

Abstract:Assuming an integral quadratic polynomial with nonsingular quadratic part has a nontrivial zero on an integer lattice outside of a union of finite-index sublattices, we prove that there exists such a zero of bounded norm and provide an explicit bound. This is a contribution related to the celebrated theorem of Cassels on small-height zeros of quadratic forms, which builds on some previous work in this area. We also demonstrate an application of these results to the problem of effective distribution of angles between vectors in the integer lattice.

Abstract:In the paper, we first give the least upper bound formula on the number of centers of planar real polynomial Hamiltonian vector fields. This formula reveals that the greater the number of invariant straight lines of the vector field and the less the number of its centers. Then we obtain some rules on the configurations of centers of planar real polynomial Hamiltonian Kolmogorov vector fields when the number of centers is exactly the least upper bound. As an application of these results, we give an affirmative answer to a conjecture on the topological classification of configurations for the cubic Hamiltonian Kolmogorov vector fields with four centers. Moreover, we discuss the relationship between the number of centers of planar real polynomial vector fields and the existence of limit cycles, and prove that cubic real polynomial Kolmogorov vector fields have no limit cycles if the number of its centers reaches the maximum. More precisely, it is shown that the cubic real polynomial Kolmogorov vector field must have an elementary first integral in $\mathbb{R}^2\setminus\{xy=0\}$ if it has four centers, and the number of configurations of its centers is one more than that of the cubic polynomial Hamiltonian Kolmogorov vector fields.

Abstract:We estimate the number of zeros of a polynomial in $\mathbb{C}[z]$ within any small circular disc centered on the unit circle, which improves and comprehensively extends a result established by Borwein, Erd{é}lyi, and Littmann~\cite{BE1} in 2008. Furthermore, by combining this result with Euclidean geometry, we derive an upper bound on the number of zeros of such a polynomial within a region resembling a gear wheel. Additionally, we obtain a sharp upper bound on the annular discrepancy of such zeros near the unit circle. Our approach builds upon a modified version of the method described in \cite{BE1}, combined with the refined version of the best-known upper bound for angular discrepancy of zeros of polynomials.

Abstract:In Affine Toda field theory, links among three generating functions for integrals of motion derived from Part (I) are studied, and some classically integrable boundary conditions are obtained. An infinite number of integrals of motion are calculated in ZMS model with quasi-periodic condition. We find the classically integrable boundary conditions and K+/-, matrices of ZMS model with independent boundary conditions on each end. It is identified that an infinite number of integrals of motion does exist and one of them is the Hamiltonian, so this system is completely integrable.

Abstract:We study the zero location and the asymptotic behavior of iterated integrals of polynomials. Borwein-Chen-Dilcher's polynomials play an important role in this issue. For these polynomials we find their strong asymptotics and give the limit measure of their zero distribution. We apply these results to describe the zero asymptotic distribution of iterated integrals of ultraspherical polynomials with parameters $(2\alpha+1)/2$, $\alpha\in \mathbb{Z}_+$.

Abstract:We prove that perturbing the periodic annulus of the reversible quadratic polynomial differential system $\dot x=y+ax^2$ , $\dot y=-x$ with a ≠ 0 inside the class of all quadratic polynomial differential systems we can obtain at most two limit cycles, including their multiplicities. Since the first integral of the unperturbed system contains an exponential function, the traditional methods cannot be applied, except in Figuerasa, Tucker and Villadelprat (2013, J. Diff. Equ. , 254 , 3647–3663) a computer-assisted method was used. In this paper, we provide a method for studying the problem. This is also the first purely mathematical proof of the conjecture formulated by Dumortier and Roussarie (2009, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. , 2 , 723–781) for q ⩽ 2. The method may be used in other problems.

On the number of limit cycles in piecewise planar quadratic differential systems

Abstract:We consider piecewise quadratic perturbations of centers of piecewise quadratic systems in two zones determined by a straight line through the origin. By means of expansions of the displacement map, we are able to find isolated zeros of it, without dealing with the unsurprising difficult integrals inherent in the usual averaging approach. We apply our technique to non-smooth perturbations of the four families of isochronous centers of the Loud family, $S_1$, $S_2$, $S_3$, and $S_4$, as well as to non-smooth perturbations of non-smooth centers given by putting different $S_i$'s in each zone. To show the coverage of our approach, we apply its first order, which recovers the averaging method of the first order, in perturbations of the already mentioned centers considering all the straight lines through the origin. Then we apply its second order to perturbations of the above centers for a specific oblique straight line. Here in order to argue we introduce certain blow-ups in the perturbative parameters. As a consequence of our study, we obtain examples of piecewise quadratic systems with at least $12$ limit cycles. By analyzing two previous works of the literature claiming much more limit cycles we found some mistakes in the calculations. Therefore, the best lower bound for the number of limit cycles of a piecewise quadratic system is up to now the $12$ limit cycles found in the present paper.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the integrability and linearization of a class of quadratic quasi-analytic switching systems. We improve an existing method to compute the focus values and periodic constants of quasi-analytic switching systems. In particular, with our method, we demonstrate that the dynamical behaviors of quasi-analytic switching systems are more complex than that of continuous quasi-analytic systems, by showing the existence of six and seven limit cycles in the neighborhood of the origin and infinity, respectively, in a quadratic quasi-analytic switching system. Moreover, explicit conditions are obtained for classifying the centers and isochronous centers of the system.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a diagonal cubic form over $\mathbb{Z}$ in $6$ variables. From the dual variety in the delta method of Duke--Friedlander--Iwaniec and Heath-Brown, we unconditionally extract a weighted count of certain special integral zeros of $F$ in regions of diameter $X \to \infty$. Heath-Brown did the same in $4$ variables, but our analysis differs and captures some novel features. We also put forth an axiomatic framework for more general $F$.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the quadratic isochronous centers perturbed inside piecewise polynomial differential systems of arbitrary degree n with the straight line of discontinuity x=0. The main concerns are the number of zeros of the first order Melnikov functions and the estimate of the number of limit cycles bifurcating from the period annuli. For quadratic isochronous centers S1, S2 and S3, we will provide a sharp upper bound for the number of zeros of the first order Melnikov functions. For quadratic isochronous center S4, we give a rough estimate. However, when the problem is reduced to perturbations inside polynomial differential systems, our result for S4 will improve that in Li et al. (2000) [12] significantly. Moreover, we will reveal out some equivalence between the first order Melnikov function method and the first order averaging method for investigating the number of limit cycles of piecewise polynomial differential systems.
