Abstract:We give a congruence for L-functions coming from affine additive exponential sums over a finite field. Precisely, we give a congruence for certain operators coming from Dwork's theory. This congruence is very similar to the congruence of Manin for the characteristic polynomial of the action of Frobenius on the Jacobian of a curve defined over a finite field.

Old Meets New: Connecting Two Infinite Families of Congruences Modulo Powers of 5 for Generalized Frobenius Partition Functions

Abstract:In 2012 Paule and Radu proved a difficult family of congruences modulo powers of 5 for Andrews' 2-colored generalized Frobenius partition function. The family is associated with the classical modular curve of level 20. We demonstrate the existence of a congruence family for a related generalized Frobenius partition function associated with the same curve. We construct an isomorphism between this new family and the original family of congruences via a mapping on the associated rings of modular functions. The pairing of the congruence families provides a new strategy for future work on congruences associated with modular curves of composite level. We show how a similar approach can be made to multiple other recent examples in the literature. We also give some important insights into the behavior of these congruence families with respect to the Atkin--Lehner involution which proved very important in Paule and Radu's original proof.

Abstract:George Andrews and Peter Paule have recently conjectured an infinite family of congruences modulo powers of 3 for the 2-elongated plane partition function d2(n). This congruence family appears difficult to prove by classical methods. We prove a refined form of this conjecture by expressing the associated generating functions as elements of a ring of modular functions isomorphic to a localization of Z[X].

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. In this paper, analogs of Wilson?s and Wolstenholme?s theorems on the solution sets S+ = {n ? Z* p | n ? a + b ? ab (mod p)} and S? = {n ? Z* p | n ? a ? b ? ab (mod p)} are given, where Z* p denote a reduced residue system modulo p. We also establish congruences about sum and product of the quadratic residues in S+ or in S? modulo p. Finally, we raise a problem on how to solve Hadamard?s conjecture in the last section.

Linear Congruences in several variables with congruence restrictions

Abstract:In this article, we consider systems of linear congruences in several variables and obtain necessary and sufficient conditions as well as explicit expressions for the number of solutions subject to certain restriction conditions. These results are in terms of Ramanujan sums and generalize the results of Lehmer \cite{DNL13} and Bibak et al. \cite{BBVRL17}. These results have analogues over $\mathbb{F}_q[t]$ where the proofs are similar, once notions such as Ramanujan sums are defined in this set-up. We use the recent description of Ramanujan sums over function fields as developed by Zhiyong Zheng \cite{ZZ18}. This is discussed in the last section. We illustrate the formulae obtained for the number of solutions through some examples. Over the integers, such problems have a rich history, some of which seem to have been forgotten - a number of papers written on the topic re-prove known results. The present authors also became aware of some of these old articles only while writing the present article and hence, we recall very briefly some of the old work by H. J. S. Smith, Rademacher, Brauer, Butson and Stewart, Ramanathan, McCarthy, and Spilker \cite{AB26, BS55, PJM76, HR25, KGR44, HJSS61, JS96}.

Lattices in function fields and applications

Abstract:In recent decades, the use of ideas from Minkowski's Geometry of Numbers has gained recognition as a helpful tool in bounding the number of solutions to modular congruences with variables from short intervals. In 1941, Mahler introduced an analogue to the Geometry of Numbers in function fields over finite fields. Here, we build on Mahler's ideas and develop results useful for bounding the sizes of intersections of lattices and convex bodies in $\mathbb{F}_q((1/T))^d$, which are more precise than what is known over $\mathbb{R}^d$. These results are then applied to various problems regarding bounding the number of solutions to congruences in $\mathbb{F}_q[T]$, such as the number of points on polynomial curves in low dimensional subspaces of finite fields. Our results improve on a number of previous bounds due to Bagshaw, Cilleruelo, Shparlinski and Zumalacárregui. We also present previous techniques developed by various authors for estimating certain energy/point counts in a unified manner.

Abstract:Congruence families, i.e., $\ell$-adic convergence for well-defined arithmetic subsequences, is a commonplace phenomenon for the coefficients of modular forms. Such families superficially resemble one another, but they often vary substantially in difficulty. Moreover, the critical difficulties associated with a given family will generally manifest themselves at the end stages of an attempted proof. We give a conjectured classification system of congruence families for the coefficients of modular eta quotients by studying the topology of the associated modular curve.

Generalized partial-slice monogenic functions

Abstract:The two function theories of monogenic and of slice monogenic functions have been extensively studied in the literature and were developed independently; the relations between them, e.g. via Fueter mapping and Radon transform, have been studied. The main purpose of this article is to describe a new function theory which includes both of them as special cases. This theory allows to prove nice properties such as the identity theorem, a Representation Formula, the Cauchy (and Cauchy-Pompeiu) integral formula, the maximum modulus principle, a version of the Taylor and Laurent series expansions. As a complement, we shall also offer two approaches to these functions via slice functions and via global differential operators. In addition, we discuss the conformal invariance property under a proper group of Möbius transformations preserving the partial symmetry of the involved domains.

We explain the role which these L-genera play in the spectral analysis of Eisenstein series. We also discuss the natural categorification of L-genera and its potential role in enumerative geometry.

Abstract:$L$-functions typically encode interesting information about mathematical objects. This paper reports 29 identities between such functions that hitherto never appeared in the literature. Of these we have a complete proof for 9; all others are extensively numerically checked and we welcome proofs of their (in)validity. The method we devised to obtain these identities is a two-step process whereby a list of candidate identities is automatically generated, obtained, tested, and ultimately formally proven. The approach is however only \emph{semi-}automated as human intervention is necessary for the post-processing phase, to determine the most general form of a conjectured identity and to provide a proof for them. This work complements other instances in the literature where automated symbolic computation has served as a productive step toward theorem proving and can be extended in several directions further to explore the algebraic landscape of $L$-functions and similar constructions.

A Complete Congruence System for the Erdos-Straus Conjecture

Abstract:In this paper we attack the Erdos-Straus conjecture by means of the structure of its solutions, extending and improving the results of a previous paper. Using previous results and supported by the works of Elsholtz and Tao and Monks and Velingker we define a system of congruences for which there are always solutions to the Erdos-Straus conjecture and which we conjecture to include all prime numbers. For this purpose, and always taking into account a result due to Mordell that limits the congruences admitting polynomial identities to those that are not quadratic residues, we will adopt a transversal approach and classify the solutions by their form and not by those congruences that produce them. Thus we define two new types of solutions, which we call Type A and B, and relate them to the already known Type II solutions and study their properties. Finally we conjecture that every prime number has at least one solution of Type A or B and we associate a congruence and a general polynomial to each Type of solution.

Abstract:In his paper "Beyond Endoscopy," Langlands tries to understand functoriality via poles of L-functions. The following paper further investigates the analytic continuation of a L-function associated to a $GL_2$ automorphic form through the trace formula. Though the usual way to obtain the analytic continuation of an L-function is through its functional equation, this paper shows that by simply assuming the trace formula, the functional equation of the L-function may be recovered. This paper is a step towards understanding the analytic continuation of the L-function at the same time as capturing information about functoriality. From an analytic number theory perspective, obtaining the functional equation from the trace formula implies that Voronoi summation should in general be also a consequence of the trace formula.

Abstract:In this paper, we relate $L(1,\pi,\mathrm{Ad}^\circ)$ to the congruence ideals for cohomological cuspidal automorphic representations $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over any number field. We then use this result to deduce relationships between the congruences of automorphic forms and adjoint $L$-functions. For CM fields, we apply the result to obtain a lower bound on the cardinality of certain Selmer groups in terms of $L(1,\pi,\mathrm{Ad}^\circ)$.

Abstract:We study in general algebras Gratzer's notion of congruence preserving function, characterizing functions in terms of stability under inverse image of particular Boolean algebras of subsets generated from any subset of the algebra. Weakening Gratzer's notion to only finite index congruences, a similar result holds with lattices of sets. Genereralizing the notion to that of stable preorder preserving function, we extend these characterizations to Boolean algebras and lattices generated from any recognizable subset of the algebra. Our starting point is a result with related flavor on the additive algebra of natural integers which was obtained some years ago. All these results can be visualized in the diagram of Table 1. We finally consider some simple particular conditions on the algebra allowing to get a richer diagram.

Abstract:According to a program of Braverman, Kazhdan and Ngô Bao Châu, for a large class of split unramified reductive groups $G$ and representations $\rho$ of the dual group $\hat{G}$, the unramified local $L$-factor $L(s,\pi,\rho)$ can be expressed as the trace of $\pi(f_{\rho,s})$ for a suitable function $f_{\rho,s}$ with non-compact support whenever $\mathrm{Re}(s) \gg 0$. Such functions can be plugged into the trace formula to study certain sums of automorphic $L$-functions. It also fits into the conjectural framework of Schwartz spaces for reductive monoids due to Sakellaridis, who coined the term basic functions; this is supposed to lead to a generalized Tamagawa-Godement-Jacquet theory for $(G,\rho)$. In this article, we derive some basic properties for the basic functions $f_{\rho,s}$ and interpret them via invariant theory. In particular, their coefficients are interpreted as certain generalized Kostka-Foulkes polynomials defined by Panyushev. These coefficients can be encoded into a rational generating function.
