Abstract:We introduce equivariant L-genera associated to actions of Galois and related groups on algebraic varieties. We explain the role which these L-genera play in the spectral analysis of Eisenstein series. We also discuss the natural categorification of L-genera and its potential role in enumerative geometry.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a variety (possibly non-complete or singular) over a finitely generated field $k$ of characteristic $0$. For a prime number $\ell$, let $\rho_\ell$ be the Galois representation on the first $\ell$-adic cohomology of $X$. We show that if $\ell$ varies the image of $\rho_\ell$ is of bounded index in the group of $\mathbb{Z}_\ell$-points of its Zariski closure. We use this to improve a recent result of Litt about arithmetic representations of geometric fundamental groups. Litt's result says that there exist constants $N = N(X,\ell)$ such that every arithmetic representation $\pi_1(X_{\bar{k}}) \to \mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{Z}_\ell)$ that is trivial modulo $\ell^N$ is unipotent. We show that these constants can in fact be chosen independently of $\ell$.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group with an involution σ on it. Let H be an open subgroup of Gσ with a character χ on it. Associated to a “theta stable”, “σ-split” parabolic subalgebra, and using the Zuckerman functor, we construct representations of G together with χ-equivariant linear functionals on them. We apply this construction to prove a non-vanishing hypothesis of H. Grobner and A. Raghuram in the study of algebraicity of critical L-values.

Abstract:We prove several vanishing theorems for a class of generalized elliptic genera on foliated manifolds, by using classical equivariant index theory. The main techniques are the use of the Jacobi theta-functions and the construction of a new class of elliptic operators associated to foliations.

Abstract:Lurie's theorem states that there exists a sheaf of ring spectra on the site of formally étale Deligne--Mumford stacks over the moduli stack of $p$-divisible groups of height $n$, which agrees with the classical Landweber exact functor theorem (LEFT) on affines. In other words, this theorem is a global, higher categorical refinement of the LEFT. In recent work, Lurie has introduced many of the ingredients one needs to prove this theorem, and in this article, we gather these ingredients together and prove Lurie's theorem. Applications of this theorem to Lubin--Tate theories, topological modular and automorphism forms, and Adams operations are also discussed.

Abstract:We incorporate covers of quasisplit reductive groups into the Langlands program, defining an L-group associated to such a cover. We work with all covers that arise from extensions of quasisplit reductive groups by $\mathbf{K}_2$ -- the class studied by Brylinski and Deligne. We use this L-group to parameterize genuine irreducible representations in many contexts, including covers of split tori, unramified representations, and discrete series for double covers of semisimple groups over $\mathbb R$. An appendix surveys torsors and gerbes on the étale site, as they are used in the construction of the L-group.

Abstract:In this joint introduction to an Asterisque volume, we give a short discussion of the historical developments in the study of nonlinear covering groups, touching on their structure theory, representation theory and the theory of automorphic forms. This serves as a historical motivation and sets the scene for the papers in the volume. Our discussion is necessarily subjective and will undoubtedly leave out the contributions of many authors, to whom we apologize in earnest.

Abstract:We consider arbitrary algebraic families of lower order deformations of nondegenerate toric exponential sums over a finite field. We construct a relative polytope with the aid of which we define a ring of coefficients consisting of p-adic analytic functions with polyhedral growth prescribed by the relative polytope. Using this we compute relative cohomology for such families and calculate sharp estimates for the relative Frobenius map. In applications one is interested in L-functions associated with linear algebra operations (symmetric powers, tensor powers, exterior powers and combinations thereof) applied to the relative Frobenius. Using methods pioneered by Ax, Katz and Bombieri we prove estimates for the degree and total degree of the associated L-function and p-divisibility of the reciprocal zeros and poles. Similar estimates are then established for affine families and pure Archimedean weight families (in the simplicial case).

New phenomena arising from L-invariants of modular forms

Abstract:This article explains how to practically compute L-invariants of p-new eigenforms using p-adic L-series and exceptional zero phenomena. As proof of the utility, we compiled a data set consisting of over 150,000 L-invariants. We analyze qualitative and quantitative features found in the data. This includes conjecturing a statistical law for the distribution of the valuations of L-invariants in a fixed level as the weights of eigenforms approach infinity. One novel point of our investigation is that the algorithm is sensitive to compiling data for fixed Galois representations modulo p. Therefore, we explain new perspectives on L-invariants that are related to Galois representations. We propose understanding the structures in our data through the lens of deformation rings and moduli stacks of Galois representations.

Abstract:To a torus action on a complex vector space, Gelfand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky introduce a system of differential equations, called the GKZ hypergeometric system. Its solutions are GKZ hypergeometric functions. We study the ℓ-adic counterpart of the GKZ hypergeometric system, which we call the ℓ-adic GKZ hypergeometric sheaf. It is an object in the derived category of ℓ-adic sheaves on the affine space over a finite field. Traces of Frobenius on stalks of this object at rational points of the affine space define the hypergeometric functions over the finite field introduced by Gelfand and Graev. We prove that the ℓ-adic GKZ hypergeometric sheaf is perverse, calculate its rank, and prove that it is irreducible under the non-resonance condition. We also study the weight filtration of the GKZ hypergeometric sheaf, determine its lisse locus, and apply our result to the study of weights of twisted exponential sums.

Abstract:Based on Garland's work, in this paper we construct the Eisenstein series on the adelic loop groups over a number field, induced from either a cusp form or a quasi-character which is assumed to be unramified. We compute the constant terms, prove their absolute and uniform convergence under the affine analog of Godement's criterion. For the case of quasi-characters the resulting formula is an affine Gindikin-Karpelevich formula. Then we prove the convergence of Eisenstein series themselves in certain analogs of Siegel subsets.

Abstract:We present a spectral sequence for free isometric Lie algebra actions (and consequently locally free isometric Lie group actions) which relates the de Rham cohomology of the manifold with the Lie algebra cohomology and basic cohomology (intuitively the cohomology of the orbit space). In the process of developing this sequence, we introduce a new description of the de Rham cohomology of manifolds with such actions which appears to be well suited to this and similar problems. Finally, we provide some simple applications generalizing the Wang long exact sequence to Lie algebra actions of low codimension.

$\infty$-Categorical Generalized Langlands Program I: Mixed-Parity Modules and Sheaves

Abstract:Mixed-parity module emerges for instance when a de Rham Galois representation is being tensored with a square root of cyclotomic character, which produces half odd integers as the corresponding Hodge-Tate weights. We build the whole foundation on the $p$-adic Hodge theory in this setting over small $v$-stacks after Scholze and we also consider certain moduli $v$-stack which parametrizes families of mixed-parity Hodge modules. Examples of the small $v$-stacks in our mind are rigid analytic spaces over $p$-adic fields and moduli $v$-stack of vector bundles over Fargues-Fontaine curves. The preparation implemented at this level will be expected to provide further essential foundationalization for generalized Langlands program after Langlands, Drinfeld, Fargues-Scholze. One side of the generalized Langlands correspondence in the geometric setting is the perverse motivic derived $\infty$-category over $\mathrm{Moduli}_G$ related to smooth representations of reductive groups, while the other side of the generalized Langlands correspondence in the geometric setting is the corresponding derived $\infty$-category over the stack of mixed-parity $L$-parametrizations (i.e. from two-fold covering of the Weil group into $\ell$-adic groups) related to the representations of Weil group in our setting into Langlands dual groups. Although after Scholze and Fargues-Scholze our generalized Langlands program can go along $\ell$-adic cohomologicalization to immediately achieve various solid derived $\infty$-categories $\mathrm{DerCat}_\text{ét}(\mathrm{Moduli}_G,\square)$, $\mathrm{DerCat}_\mathrm{lisse, \blacksquare}(\mathrm{Moduli}_G,\square)$, $\mathrm{DerCat}_{\blacksquare}(\mathrm{Moduli}_G,\square)$ and so on with well-established formalism regarding 6-functors, we already provide certain $p$-adic cohomologicalization of the story over $\mathrm{Moduli}_G$.

Abstract:bstract . Each choice of a Kähler class on a compact complex manifold defines an action of the Lie algebra sl (2) on its total complex cohomology. If a nonempty set of such Kähler classes is given, then we prove that the corresponding sl (2)-copies generate a semisimple Lie algebra. We investigate the formal properties of the resulting representation and we work things out explicitly in the case of complex tori, hyperkähler manifolds and flag varieties. We pay special attention to the cases where this leads to a Jordan algebra structure or a graded Frobenius algebra.
Invariant prime ideals in equivariant Lazard rings

Abstract:Let $A$ be an abelian compact Lie group. In this paper we compute the spectrum of invariant prime ideals of the $A$-equivariant Lazard ring, or equivalently the spectrum of points of the moduli stack of $A$-equivariant formal groups. We further show that this spectrum is homeomorphic to the Balmer spectrum of compact $A$-spectra, with the comparison map induced by equivariant complex bordism homology.

Abstract:We study conjectures of Ben-Zvi--Sakellaridis--Venkatesh that categorify the relationship between automorphic periods and $L$-functions in the context of the Geometric Langlands equivalence. We provide evidence for these conjectures in some low-rank examples, by using derived Fourier analysis and the theory of chiral algebras to categorify the Rankin-Selberg unfolding method.

Abstract:We construct an integral representation for the global Rankin-Selberg (partial) $L$-function $L(s, \pi \times \tau)$ where $\pi$ is an irreducible globally generic cuspidal automorphic representation of a general spin group (over an arbitrary number field) and $\tau$ is one of a general linear group, generalizing the works of Gelbart, Piatetski-Shapiro, Rallis, Ginzburg, Soudry and Kaplan among others. We consider all ranks and both even and odd general spin groups including the quasi-split forms. The resulting facts about the location of poles of $L(s, \pi \times \tau)$ have, in particular, important consequences in describing the image of the Langlands funtorial transfer from the general spin groups to general linear groups.

Abstract:This is an informal note that explains that the classical Langlands theory over function fields can be obtained from the geometric one by taking the trace of Frobenius. The operation of taking the trace of Frobenius takes place at the categorical level, and this we deduce that the space of automorphic functions is the trace of the Frobenius on the category of automorphic sheaves.

Abstract:In this paper, we relate $L(1,\pi,\mathrm{Ad}^\circ)$ to the congruence ideals for cohomological cuspidal automorphic representations $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over any number field. We then use this result to deduce relationships between the congruences of automorphic forms and adjoint $L$-functions. For CM fields, we apply the result to obtain a lower bound on the cardinality of certain Selmer groups in terms of $L(1,\pi,\mathrm{Ad}^\circ)$.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the Quillen-Lichtenbaum Conjecture relating special values of Dedekind zeta functions to algebraic $\mathrm{K}$-groups. The former has been settled by Rost-Voevodsky up to the Iwasawa Main Conjecture. Our generalization extends the scope of this conjecture to Artin $L$-functions of Galois representations of finite, function, and totally real number fields. The statement of this conjecture relates norms of the special values of these $L$-functions to sizes of equivariant algebraic $\mathrm{K}$-groups with coefficients in an equivariant Moore spectrum attached to a Galois representation.
