Abstract:In this paper we discuss wild embeddings like Alexanders horned ball and relate them to fractal spaces. We build a $C^{\star}$-algebra corresponding to a wild embedding. We argue that a wild embedding is the result of a quantization process applied to a tame embedding. Therefore quantum states are directly the wild embeddings. Then we give an example of a wild embedding in the 4-dimensional spacetime. We discuss the consequences for cosmology.

Abstract:We study isomorphism classes of untwisted irregular singular meromorphic connections on principal bundles over (wild) Riemann surfaces, for any complex reductive structure group $G$ and polar divisor. In particular we compute the stabilisers of suitable marked points on their principal part orbits, showing the stabilisers are connected and controlled by the corresponding filtration of (Levi factors of) nested parabolic subgroups of $G$; this uniquely determines the orbits as complex homogeneous manifolds for groups of jets of principal $G$-bundle automorphisms. Moreover, when the residue is semisimple we stratify the space of orbits by the stabilisers, relating this to local wild mapping class groups and generalising the Levi stratification of a Cartan subalgebra $\mathfrak{t} \subseteq \mathfrak{g} = \operatorname{Lie}(G)$: the dense stratum corresponds to the generic setting of irregular isomonodromic deformations à la Jimbo-Miwa-Ueno.

Abstract:Using a remainder theorem for valuations of a field, we give a new perspective on the norm function of a global field. We define the Euler totient function of a global field and recover the essential analytical properties of the classical arithmetical function, namely the product formula. In addition, we prove the holomorphicity of the associated zeta function. As an application, we recover the analog of the mean value theorem of Erd\H{o}s, Dressler, and Bateman via the Weiner-Ikehara theorem.

Abstract:In 2004 Shestakov and Umirbaev proved that the Nagata automorphism of the polynomial algebra in three variables is wild. We fix a Z-grading on this algebra and consider graded-wild automorphisms, i.e. such automorphisms that can not be decomposed onto elementary automorphisms respecting the grading. We describe all gradings allowing graded-wild automorphisms.

Abstract:We prove that all wild blocks of type $A$ Hecke algebras with quantum characteristic $e \geqslant 3$ -- i.e. blocks of weight at least $2$ -- are strictly wild, with the possible exception of the weight $2$ Rouquier block for $e = 3$. As a corollary, we show that for $e \geq 3$, all wild blocks of the $q$-Schur algebras are strictly wild, without exception.

Abstract:Following the completion of the algebraic construction of the Poisson wild character varieties (B.--Yamakawa, 2015) one can consider their natural deformations, generalising both the mapping class group actions on the usual (tame) character varieties, and the G-braid groups already known to occur in the wild/irregular setting. Here we study these wild mapping class groups in the case of arbitrary formal structure in type A. As we will recall, this story is most naturally phrased in terms of admissible deformations of wild Riemann surfaces. The main results are: 1) the construction of configuration spaces containing all possible local deformations, 2) the definition of a combinatorial object, the ``fission forest'', of any wild Riemann surface and a proof that it gives a sharp parameterisation of all the admissible deformation classes. As an application of 1), by considering basic examples, we show that the braid groups of all the complex reflection groups known as the generalised symmetric groups appear as wild mapping class groups. As an application of 2), we compute the dimensions of all the (global) moduli spaces of type A wild Riemann surfaces (in fixed admissible deformation classes), a generalisation of the famous ``Riemann's count'' of the dimensions of the moduli spaces of compact Riemann surfaces.

Abstract:The wild McKay correspondence is a form of McKay correspondence in terms of stringy invariants that is generalized to arbitrary characteristics. It gives rise to an interesting connection between the geometry of wild quotient varieties and arithmetic on extensions of local fields. The principal purpose of this article is to collect open problems on the wild McKay correspondence, as well as those in related fields that the author believes are interesting or important. It also serves as a survey on the present state of these fields.

Abstract:We apply the notion of hyperfinite families of modules to the wild path algebras of generalised Kronecker quivers $k\Theta(d)$. While the preprojective and postinjective component are hyperfinite, we show the existence of a family of non-hyperfinite modules in the regular component for some $d$. Making use of dimension expanders to achieve this, our construction is more explicit than previous results. From this it follows that no finitely controlled wild algebra is of amenable representation type.

Abstract:The well-known Bachmuth-Mochizuki-Roman'kov Theorem \cite{BM,Romankov85} states that every automorphism of the free metabelian group of rank $\geq 4$ is tame. In 1992 Yu. Bahturin and S. Nabiyev \cite{BN} claimed that every nontrivial inner automorphism of the free metabelian Lie algebra $M_n$ of any rank $n\geq 2$ over a field of characteristic zero is wild. More examples of wild automorphisms of $M_n$ of rank $n\geq 4$ were given in 2008 by Z. Özcurt and N. Ekici \cite{OE}. The main goal of this note is to show that both articles contain uncorrectable errors and to draw the attention of specialists to the fact that the question of tame and wild automorphisms for free metabelian Lie algebras $M_n$ of rank $n\geq 4$ is still widely open.

Abstract:We develop a general technique for realising full closed subsets of the complex plane as wandering sets of entire functions. Using this construction, we solve a number of open problems. (1) We construct a counterexample to Eremenko's conjecture, a central problem in transcendental dynamics that asks whether every connected component of the set of escaping points of a transcendental entire function is unbounded. (2) We prove that there is a transcendental entire function for which infinitely many Fatou components share the same boundary. This resolves the long-standing problem whether "Lakes of Wada continua" can arise in complex dynamics, and answers the analogue of a question of Fatou from 1920 concerning Fatou components of rational functions. (3) We answer a question of Rippon concerning the existence of non-escaping points on the boundary of a bounded escaping wandering domain, that is, a wandering Fatou component contained in the escaping set. In fact we show that the set of such points can have positive Lebesgue measure. (4) We give the first example of an entire function having a simply connected Fatou component whose closure has a disconnected complement, answering a question of Boc Thaler. In view of (3), we introduce the concept of "maverick points": points on the boundary of a wandering domain whose accumulation behaviour differs from that of internal points. We prove that the set of such points has harmonic measure zero, but that it can nonetheless be rather large. For example, it may have positive planar Lebesgue measure.

Abstract:The modern qualitative theory of dynamical systems is thoroughly intertwined with the fairly young science of topology. Strange and even bizarre constructions of topology are found sooner or later in dynamics of discrete or continuous dynamical systems. In the present paper we show that the wild Fox-Artin arc naturally emerges in dynamics as an invariant manifold of a fixed point and as a heteroclinic intersection.

Abstract:We prove that every finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field is either derived tame or derived wild. The proof is based on the technique of matrix problems (boxes and reduction algorithm). It implies, in particular, that any degeneration of a derived wild algebra is derived wild; respectively, any deformation of a derived tame algebra is derived tame.

Abstract:Let E/F be a quadratic extension of non-archimedean local field and let G be an inner form of GL(2n, F) over F, which contains a subgroup H isomorphic to GL(n, E). In this paper we prove that (G,H) is a Gelfand pair, i.e., the H-invariant linear functional, if there exists one, on the space of an irreducible admissible representation of G is unique up to a scalar. Globally this result will. play an important role in the study of H-period integrals of cusp forms on G, and its relations to the special values of automorphic L-functions.
Uniform existential definitions of valuations in function fields in one variable

Abstract:We study function fields of curves over a base field $K$ which is either a global field or a large field having a separable field extension of degree divisible by $4$. We show that, for any such function field, Hilbert's 10th Problem has a negative answer, the valuation rings containing $K$ are uniformly existentially definable, and finitely generated integrally closed $K$-subalgebras are definable by a universal-existential formula. In order to obtain these results, we develop further the usage of local-global principles for quadratic forms in function fields to definability of certain subrings. We include a first systematic presentation of this general method, without restriction on the characteristic.

Abstract:Two fields are Witt equivalent if their Witt rings of symmetric bilinear forms are isomorphic. Witt equivalent fields can be understood to be fields having the same quadratic form theory. The behavior of finite fields, local fields, global fields, as well as function fields of curves defined over Archimedean local fields under Witt equivalence is well understood. Numbers of classes of Witt equivalent fields with finite numbers of square classes are also known in some cases. Witt equivalence of general function fields over global fields was studied in the earlier work [13] by the authors and applied to study Witt equivalence of function fields of curves over global fields. In this paper, we extend these results to local case, i.e. we discuss Witt equivalence of function fields of curves over local fields. As an application, we show that, modulo some additional assumptions, Witt equivalence of two such function fields implies Witt equivalence of underlying local fields.
