Abstract:In this thesis, we consider geometric properties of vector bundles arising from algebraic and Hermitian geometry. On vector bundles in algebraic geometry, such as ample, nef and globally generated vector bundles, we are able to construct positive Hermitian metrics in different senses(e.g. Griffiths-positive, Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive) by L2-method and deduce many new vanishing theorems for them by analytic method instead of the Le Potier-Leray spectral sequence method. On Hermitian manifolds, we find that the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. We can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and also for complex vector bundles over Hermitian manifolds by their second Ricci curvature tensors. We also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:The theory of positive maps plays a central role in operator algebras and functional analysis and has countless applications in quantum information science. The theory was originally developed for operators acting on complex Hilbert spaces and less is known about its variant on real Hilbert spaces. In this article, we study positive maps acting on a full matrix algebra over the reals, pointing out a number of fundamental differences with the complex case and discussing their implications in quantum information. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a real map to admit a positive complexification and connect the existence of positive maps with non-positive complexification with the existence of mixed states that are entangled in real Hilbert space quantum mechanics, but separable in the complex version, providing explicit examples both for the maps and for the states. Finally, we discuss entanglement breaking and PPT maps, and we show that a straightforward real version of the PPT-squared conjecture is false even in dimension 2. Nevertheless, we show that the original PPT-squared conjecture implies a different conjecture for real maps, in which the PPT property is replaced by a stronger property of invariance under partial transposition (IPT). When the IPT property is assumed, we prove an asymptotic version of the conjecture.

Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:We prove that pseudoholomorphic curves intersect complex 2-cycles positively in almost complex 4-manifolds. This makes possible a general and conceptually simple proof that an almost complex 4-manifold with many curves admits a taming symplectic structure, as envisioned by Gromov. Furthermore, we prove that the positivity of intersections between pseudoholomorphic curves is stable, in a geometric sense.

Abstract:Motivated by our previous work on Hodge-index type theorems, we give a form of mixed Hodge-Riemann bilinear relation by using the notion of m-positivity, whose proof is an adaptation of the works of Timorin (1998) and Dinh and Nguyên (2006). This mixed Hodge-Riemann bilinear relation holds with respect to mixed polarizations in which some satisfy particular positivity condition, but could be degenerate along some directions. In particular, it applies to fibrations of compact Kähler manifolds.

Abstract:We prove some Liouville type results for generalized holomorphic maps in three classes: maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to almost Hermitian manifolds, maps from almost Hermitian manifolds to pseudo-Hermitian manifolds and maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to pseudo-Hermitian manifolds, assuming that the domains are compact. For instance, we show that any $(J,J^N)$ holomorphic map from a compact pseudo-Hermitian manifold $M$ with nonnegative (resp. positive) pseudo-Hermitian sectional curvature to an almost Hermitian manifold $N$ with negative (resp. nonpositive) holomorphic sectional curvature is constant. We also construct explicit almost CR structures on a complex vector bundle over an almost CR manifold.

Abstract:In the case where both the domain and target manifolds are almost Hermitian, we introduce the concept of Hermitian pluriharmonic maps. We prove that any holomorphic or anti-holomorphic map between almost Hermitian manifolds is Hermitian pluriharmonic. We also establish some monotonicity formulae for the partial energies of Hermitian pluriharmonic maps into Kähler manifolds. As an application, under appropriate assumptions on the growth of the partial energies, some holomorphicity results are proven.

Abstract:We show that each positive map from B(K) to B(H) with K and H finite dimensional Hilbert spaces is a scalar multiple of a map of the form $Tr - \psi$ with $\psi$ completely positive. Abstract:The concept of the half density matrix is proposed. It unifies the quantum states that are described by density matrices and physical processes that are described by completely positive maps. With the help of the half-density-matrix representation of the Hermitian linear map, we show that every positive map that is not completely positive is a difference of two completely positive maps. A necessary and sufficient condition for a positive map that is not completely positive is also presented, which is illustrated by some examples.

Abstract:In this paper we will develop a general approach which shows that generalized 'critical relations' of families of locally defined holomorphic maps on the complex plane unfold transversally. The main idea is to define a transfer operator, which is a local analogue of the Thurston pullback operator, using holomorphic motions. Assuming a so-called lifting property is satisfied, we obtain information about the spectrum of this transfer operator and thus about transversality. An important new feature of our method is that it is not global: the maps we consider are only required to be defined and holomorphic on a neighbourhood of some finite set. We will illustrate this method by obtaining transversality for a wide class of one-parameter families of interval and circle maps, for example for maps with flat critical points, but also for maps with complex analytic extensions such as certain polynomial-like maps. As in Tsujii's approach (Tsujii M 1994 A note on Milnor and Thurston's monotonicity theoremGeometry and Analysis in Dynamical Systemvol 14 (Singapore: World Scientific) pp 60-2; Tsujii M 2000 Ergod. Theor. Dyn. Syst.20925-933), for real maps we obtain positive transversality (where > 0 holds instead of just not equal 0), and thus monotonicity of entropy for these families, and also (as an easy application) for the real quadratic family. This method additionally gives results for unimodal families of the form x -> vertical bar x vertical bar(l) vertical bar c for l > 1 not necessarily an even integer and c real.

Abstract:We study morphisms of the generalized quantum logic of tripotents in JBW*-triples and von Neumann algebras. Especially, we establish generalization of celebrated Dye's theorem on orthoisomorphisms between von Neumann lattices to this new context. We show one-to-one correspondence between maps on tripotents preserving orthogonality, orthogonal suprema, and reflection $u\to -u$, on one side, and their extensions to maps that are real linear on sets of elements with bounded range tripotents on the other side. In a more general description we show that quantum logic morphisms on tripotent structures are given by a family of Jordan *-homomorphisms on 2-Peirce subspaces. By examples we exhibit new phenomena for tripotent morphisms that have no analogy for projection lattices and demonstrated that the above mention tripotent versions of Dye's theorem cannot be improved. On the other hand, in a special case of JBW$^*$-algebras we can generalize Dye's result directly. Besides we show that structure of tripotents in C$^*$-algebras determines their projection poset and is a complete Jordan invariant for von Neumann algebras.

Abstract:Building on the seminal work of Arkani-Hamed, He, Salvatori and Thomas (AHST), we explore the positive geometry encoding one loop scattering amplitude for quartic scalar interactions. We define a new class of combinatorial polytopes that we call pseudo-accordiohedra whose poset structures are associated to singularities of the one loop integrand associated to scalar quartic interactions. Pseudo-accordiohedra parametrize a family of projective forms on the abstract kinematic space defined by AHST and restriction of these forms to the type-D associahedra can be associated to one-loop integrands for quartic interactions. The restriction (of the projective form) can also be thought of as a canonical top form on certain geometric realisations of pseudo-accordiohedra. Our work explores a large class of geometric realisations of the type-D associahedra which include all the AHST realisations. These realisations are based on the pseudo-triangulation model for type-D cluster algebras discovered by Ceballos and Pilaud.

Abstract:A bstract Recent years have seen a surprising connection between the physics of scattering amplitudes and a class of mathematical objects — the positive Grassmannian, positive loop Grassmannians, tree and loop Amplituhedra — which have been loosely referred to as “positive geometries”. The connection between the geometry and physics is provided by a unique differential form canonically determined by the property of having logarithmic singularities (only) on all the boundaries of the space, with residues on each boundary given by the canonical form on that boundary. The structures seen in the physical setting of the Amplituhedron are both rigid and rich enough to motivate an investigation of the notions of “positive geometries” and their associated “canonical forms” as objects of study in their own right, in a more general mathematical setting. In this paper we take the first steps in this direction. We begin by giving a precise definition of positive geometries and canonical forms, and introduce two general methods for finding forms for more complicated positive geometries from simpler ones — via “triangulation” on the one hand, and “push-forward” maps between geometries on the other. We present numerous examples of positive geometries in projective spaces, Grassmannians, and toric, cluster and flag varieties, both for the simplest “simplex-like” geometries and the richer “polytope-like” ones. We also illustrate a number of strategies for computing canonical forms for large classes of positive geometries, ranging from a direct determination exploiting knowledge of zeros and poles, to the use of the general triangulation and push-forward methods, to the representation of the form as volume integrals over dual geometries and contour integrals over auxiliary spaces. These methods yield interesting representations for the canonical forms of wide classes of positive geometries, ranging from the simplest Amplituhedra to new expressions for the volume of arbitrary convex polytopes.

Abstract:We present positive maps and matrix inequalities for variables from the positive cone. These inequalities contain partial transpose and reshuffling operations, and can be understood as positive multilinear maps that are in one-to-one correspondence with elements from the walled Brauer algebra. Using our formalism, these maps can be obtained in a systematic and clear way by manipulating partially transposed permutation operators under a partial trace. Additionally, these maps are reasonably easy in construction by combining an algorithmic approach with graphical calculus.

Abstract:We study positive definite functions on noncommuting strict contractions. In particular, we study functions that induce positive definite Hua-Bellman matrices (i.e., matrices of the form $[\det(I-A_i^*A_j)^{-\alpha}]_{ij}$ where $A_i$ and $A_j$ are strict contractions and $\alpha\in\mathbb{C}$). We start by revisiting a 1959 work of \citeauthor{bellman1959} (R.~Bellman~\emph{Representation theorems and inequalities for Hermitian matrices}; Duke Mathematical J., 26(3), 1959) that studies Hua-Bellman matrices and claims a strengthening of \citeauthor{hua1955}'s representation theoretic results on their positive definiteness~(L.-K. Hua, \emph{Inequalities involving determinants}; Acta Mathematica Sinica, 5(1955), pp.~463--470). We uncover a critical error in Bellman's proof that has surprisingly escaped notice to date. We "fix" this error and provide conditions under which $\det(I-A^*B)^{-\alpha}$ is a positive definite function; our conditions correct Bellman's claim and subsume both Bellman's and Hua's prior results. Subsequently, we build on our result and introduce a new hyperbolic-like geometry on noncommuting contractions, and remark on its potential applications.

Abstract:Huang's Lemma is an important tool in CR geometry to study rigidity problems. This paper introduces a generalization of Huang's Lemma based on the rigidity properties of holomorphic mappings preserving certain orthogonality on projective spaces, which is optimal for the case of partial linearity. By exploring the intricate relationship between rigidity and Huang's Lemma, we establish that the rigidity properties of Segre maps or proper holomorphic mappings between generalized balls with Levi-degenerate boundaries can be inferred from those between generalized balls with Levi-non-degenerate boundaries by in a coordinate-free and more geometric manner.
