Abstract:Studying international scientific collaboration poses even greater benefits in the form of expanding research networks beyond national territory and creating greater opportunities for research organizations and academic institutions. This project examined collaboration across the 51 project teams located within The Joint Laboratory on Extreme Scale Computing's (JLESC) research network. The objective of this project was to provide an approach for addressing collaboration performance and the performance measurement of an International Virtual Research Organization. Results of the study show some interesting findings considering task team collaboration. There is a clear indication that teams performed better if they stuck together for longer time. However, national or ethnic differences based on center locations on different countries or continents or the demographic makeup of a group did not have a significant effect on team performance. © 2001 Elsevier Science.
