Abstract:Large space circular coal storage dome (LSCCSD) offers an environmental and dependable alternative to open stockpiles, and it has been consequently widely applied in China. However, due to the lack of scientific guidelines, its natural ventilation performance is lower than expected. Natural ventilation potential strongly depends on the roof geometry and opening mode, which have not yet been investigated for LSCCSD. This paper presents a detailed evaluation of the impact of dome geometry (rise span ratio), opening height, and opening modes on the ventilation performance of LSCCSD. The evaluation is based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods and is validated by available wind tunnel testing. We employed three evaluation indicators, which are wind pressure coefficient, effective ventilation rate, and wind speed ratio. The results demonstrate that the rise span ratio has a significant effect on the wind pressure difference and the effective ventilation rate increases by approximately 9%–42% with a single-annular opening. When double-annular openings are set in a strong positive pressure zone, the effective ventilation rate increases by 100% and the average wind speed ratio increases by 50%. When it is compared with single one with similar opening height, the effective ventilation rate increases by 25%. The optimum natural ventilation performance for LSCCSD is achieved at a rise span ratio of 0.37. In addition, the lateral middle opening is kept higher than the ridge top of the coal pile. The proposed evaluation approach and design parameters provided instructive information in the building design and ventilation control for LSCCSDs.

The study configured the HVAC system with different numbers of air handling units, and the results are shown in Fig. 12. However, by comparing the results obtained from the qualitative analysis with those obtained in Fig. 12, it is found that there is a great contradiction between the two. Therefore, the energy consumption optimization framework and HVAC configuration method adopted by the research institute are unreliable. Also since the object of this paper is office buildings, the various parameters of the air-side economizers in the AHUs configured in office buildings are derived from the data in the air-side economizers configured in the data center.Therefore, the Authors requested retraction and the Editor agreed with this request. The Authors regret the errors.

Abstract:Owing to the air pollution emission restrictions, coal yards are frequently required to be sheltered by coal sheds. However, for the coal yards to be sheltered by coal sheds, the wind environment in the coal sheds must provide ventilation as well as ensure dust suppression. In this study, the wind-driven natural ventilation and dust suppression effects of coal sheds possessing porous windbreak gables are studied using wind tunnel experiment and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical simulation. The wind velocities of wind-driven natural ventilation and dust coal piles and near the ventilators are obtained by the CFD simulation with re-normalization group (RNG) k-ε model, which are validated by the wind tunnel measurement results. The ventilation rate and the dust suppression rate are estimated for quantifying the ventilation and dust suppression effects of coal sheds with different gables. The results indicate that a windbreak gable or the combination of a porous windbreak and a solid plate can provide both aspects, thus satisfying both production and environmental requirements. This research provides a reference to determine the closure type and the key parameters in the architectural design of coal sheds. The presented framework can also be used for the further optimization and manipulation of the wind environment in relevant industrial buildings.
