Abstract:Co40Fe40V20 thin films were sputtered onto a glass substrate at room temperature (RT) with thicknesses (tf) ranging from 10 to 100 nm. The corresponding optical properties and surface energies were investigated. The contact angles were smaller than 90°, indicating that the films were hydrophilic. The surface energy was correlated with the adhesion and displayed a concave-up trend. The highest surface energy was 45.46 mJ/mm2 of 20 nm and demonstrated a high adhesion. Moreover, increased surface roughness can be induced weaker crystallization and enhanced high surface energy, causing a high adhesion. The transmittance percentage (%) decreased from 26% to 2% as tf was changed from 10 nm to 100 nm because the larger thickness and interface effect inhibited the transfer of photon signals through the film, resulting in a low transmittance and high absorbance. Based on the adhesive and optical performance, the optimal tf was found to be 20 nm, which is suitable for magnetic-optical recording medium applications.
