Abstract:Quality-by-design (QbD) is defined as a systematic approach to design and develop a product/service based on sound science and quality risk management. It is already frequently applied in the pharmaceutical industry mainly in the development of pharmaceutical products and analytical methods but is not well established in the setup of facilities like quality control (QC) laboratory (lab). Therefore, lab QbD (lQbD) concept is introduced considering lab water purification system as an example. The water purification system comprising distillation unit coupled with Nanopure Analytical Ultrapure Water System combined with a 0.2-micron filter was established in Jimma University Laboratory of Drug Quality (JuLaDQ). The consistent capability of the established water purification system was evaluated through routine monitoring of the critical quality parameters (i.e., physicochemical, HPLC-DAD chromatogram total peak area, and resistivity) of freshly prepared lab water for a period of one year. In addition, quality of different grade water (tap water, distilled water (before and/or after cleaning distillation unit), and fresh ultrapure water (18.2 MΩ × cm at 25°C)) used in JuLaDQ was evaluated. The results of routine analysis of water quality revealed that HPLC global peak area at 210 and 254 nm could serve as one of the discriminatory control strategies to evaluate the capability of water purification system to produce the desired quality of lab water; and thus, we proposed a specification limit of 5,000 mAU∗s and 5,500 mAU∗s for global peak area at 254 and 210 nm, respectively, as system suitability parameter.

Abstract:Independent quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) programs are required by reporting codes for publicly listed companies and are necessary to optimize data quality at all stages of the sampling, preparation and analytical processes involved in mineral exploration, resource estimation and mining grade control. QA/QC programs should be adjusted over time to meet changing requirements in data quality at different stages of mineral resource development and exploitation. Certified reference materials (CRM) are used to monitor accuracy and bias at the project laboratory relative to consensus values for the material from round-robin certification analyses. They are also used to monitor drift over time within an individual laboratory and to identify significant failures in quality control at the analytical batch level caused by abrupt changes in concentration related to re-calibration of instruments or procedural changes at the laboratory. Duplicate analyses of sample material are generated at key stages of sampling and preparation to estimate the precision of data generated at each stage. Invariably, the largest source of uncertainty occurs during the initial sampling. Coarse blanks are used to monitor cross-contamination between samples or from sample preparation equipment. Furthermore, each of these QC sample types can be used to discover possible sample mix-ups. Abstract:A project quality assurance organization (QAO) assigns project quality responsibilities and relationships, both for design and construction. In the highway sector, all project quality roles and responsibilities have historically been assigned to the state highway agency (SHA), an accepted and well-understood industry practice. However, increasing use of alternative project delivery methods and reductions in SHA staffing are having an impact on traditional QAO practices. SHAs are increasingly selecting alternative QAOs, but they are making these selections in an ad hoc manner because of limited staff knowledge and experience, and a lack of guidance from the research community. Highway design and construction quality research focuses almost exclusively on inspections, observations, corporate quality, warranties, and materials testing, resulting in a gap in the research about shifts in project quality roles and responsibilities. This research extends the civil engineering quality management body of knowledge by identifying factors that influence the selection of QAOs and rating the appropriateness of the QAOs for each selection factor. Because of the complexity of the topic, scope of the decision process, and the limited project data available, structured interviews and the Delphi method were chosen to explore the selection factors. The research discovered 10 factors: project size, project complexity, project delivery method, project schedule sensitivity, availability of agency project staff, agency project staff experience, agency culture, industry ability to manage their own quality, trust between agency and industry, and amount of quality risk to shift away from the agency. The research provides the highway industry with new understanding of the effects that each selection factor has on the fundamental QAOs. This fundamental knowledge will allow SHAs to make more informed QAO selections.

Abstract:With the rapid growth in the amount of data generated worldwide, ensuring adequate data quality (DQ) is increasingly becoming a challenge for companies: data are, among others, required to be timely, complete, consistent, valid, and accessible. Given this multidimensionality, DQ improvements (DQIs) need to be purposefully chosen and –as there can be path dependencies– arranged in an optimal sequence. Thus, this research contributes to performing the complex multidimensional task of ensuring adequate DQ in an economically reasonable manner by providing a formal decision model for identifying an optimal data quality improvement plan (DQIP). This DQIP comprises both an economically reasonable selection and execution sequence of DQIs based on existing interrelationships between different DQ dimensions. Furthermore, a comprehensive Monte Carlo simulation provides insights in implications to put the decision model into operation. For practitioners, the decision model enables efficient allocation of resources to DQIs. The model also gives advice on how to sequence DQIs and attracts attention to the complex problem context of DQ in order to support valid managerial decisions.

Abstract:There are many measurable dimensions for products in industries, and their quality should not deviate too much from the established norm. Therefore, a big part of the consignment's acceptance is determined by the variance of distributions. In the production of surgical or critical care equipment, measurable dimensions are very important, since each part of the equipment should meet the indicated specification with tolerable variance. Therefore, a procedure for constructing a combined (mixed) sampling plan with a variance measure is provided in this module. This sampling plan supports the medical device engineer in establishing the target dimensions for the quality control of medical instruments because many variations in dimensions result in heavy losses for manufacturers. The relational complete chain sampling plan (RCCSP) is utilized in the II phase inspection to have a significant impact on production quality. The performance measures, algorithm, and design of the mixed sampling plan are provided. The plan is indexed through AQL. In order to choose the plan easily, the table is set up with an example.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The results of many quality improvement (QI) projects are gaining wide-spread attention. Policy-makers, hospital leaders and clinicians make important decisions based on the assumption that QI project results are accurate. However, compared with clinical research, QI projects are typically conducted with substantially fewer resources, potentially impacting data quality. Our objective was to provide a primer on basic data quality control methods appropriate for QI efforts.METHODS: Data quality control methods should be applied throughout all phases of a QI project. In the design phase, project aims should guide data collection decisions, emphasizing quality (rather than quantity) of data and considering resource limitations. In the data collection phase, standardized data collection forms, comprehensive staff training and a well-designed database can help maximize the quality of the data. Clearly defined data elements, quality assurance reviews of both collection and entry and system-based controls reduce the likelihood of error. In the data management phase, missing data should be quickly identified and corrected with system-based controls to minimize the missing data. Finally, in the data analysis phase, appropriate statistical methods and sensitivity analysis aid in managing and understanding the effects of missing data and outliers, in addressing potential confounders and in conveying the precision of results.CONCLUSION: Data quality control is essential to ensure the integrity of results from QI projects. Feasible methods are available and important to help ensure that stakeholder's decisions are based on accurate data.

Abstract:Combined with the design and development of a surface water quality monitoring information management system, the water quality monitoring information management requirements and water quality data items and data structures are analyzed. The framework of the database construction is presented and the concept design and logical architecture design are introduced. The titling formats and content regulations are investigated. Under the surroundings of Oracle and VB.Net, the front end and back end system are developed. The key functions of the system including water quality query and management and monitoring factors information query are introduced. Furthermore, the concept of the Rough Sets is introduced, and water quality information completion and uniformities, attribute reduction and rule induction algorithms are investigated based on the Rough Sets model. Thus the data analysis and early-warning functions are established. The operation performance of the system shows that it can wholly meet the needs of the water quality monitoring and management.

However , the implementation of Quality by Design ( QbD ) in development , manufacture and supervision of traditional Chinese medicine ( TCM ) still remains to be a challenge . The program of safety re-evaluation of TCM injections provides an opportunity to practice QbD approach in TCM industry . This paper discussed some potential ways that improve the quality of TCM injec-tions base on QbD related tools , including identification of critical quality attributes , critical process parameters and critical material attributes, development of design space and control strategy.

Abstract:Surveying engineering is an essential ingredient to the assurance of quality in a constructed project. This paper addresses the responsibilities and tasks required prior to and during the constructed project. Project concept, planning, design, and the construction phase of a project in each phase does need special surveying concepts and specifications. Specific survey requirements are defined and detailed for each phase. The need for peer reviews in establishing engineering survey requirements vary by the type of survey needed during the work phase. A construction project is not completed until proper postconstruction surveys and documentation is complete. The paper details project minimum requirements and their longrange importance in the life of a completed project.

Abstract:IntroductionThe concept of quality by design (QbD) has been widely accepted and applied in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. There are still two key issues to be addressed in the implementation of QbD for herbal drugs. The first issue is the quality variation of herbal raw materials and the second issue is the difficulty in defining the acceptable ranges of critical quality attributes (CQAs). ObjectiveTo propose a feedforward control strategy and a method for defining the acceptable ranges of CQAs for the two issues. MethodsIn the case study of the ethanol precipitation process of Danshen (Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza) injection, regression models linking input material attributes and process parameters to CQAs were built first and an optimisation model for calculating the best process parameters according to the input materials was established. Then, the feasible material space was defined and the acceptable ranges of CQAs for the previous process were determined. ResultsIn the case study, satisfactory regression models were built with cross-validated regression coefficients (Q(2)) all above 91 %. The feedforward control strategy was applied successfully to compensate the quality variation of the input materials, which was able to control the CQAs in the 90-110 % ranges of the desired values. In addition, the feasible material space for the ethanol precipitation process was built successfully, which showed the acceptable ranges of the CQAs for the concentration process. ConclusionThe proposed methodology can help to promote the implementation of QbD for herbal drugs. Copyright (c) 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Abstract:Abstract Acceptance sampling plan has been a practical tool in quality management, which provides both the producer and the consumer a general rule for sentencing lots. In recent years, a new strategy, chain sampling plan, considering disposition of historical lots for sentencing the current lot has been discussed. However, reviewing results of preceding lots only happens when the quality of current lot is on the undefined region, which may not be completely utilized. Therefore, in this study, we develop a variables modified‐ChSP (VMChSP) for variable inspection based on the Taguchi capability index to improve above situation. Optimization model of the proposed plan is formulated to solve plan parameters by minimizing the required sample size. Plan parameters under various allowable risks and quality levels are also provided for practical purpose. Finally, further analysis and comparisons between the proposed plan and conventional plans are provided and discussed in this research.

This paper presents a procedure for the construction and selection of a ChSP-1 by attributes inspection based on membership functions [3]. A procedure using search technique is developed for obtaining the parameters of single sampling plan for a given set of AQL and LQL values. Abstract:In this work, the authors propose the integrated application of CSP-1 plan and Dodge-Romig rectifying inspection plan with expected inspection cost, expected replacement cost, expected warranty cost, expected quality loss for conforming product, and expected quality loss for non-conforming product per item. The quality characteristics of product is considered as the normal distribution with nominal-the-best and symmetric quadratic quality loss function. The CSP-1 plan is firstly applied in the process control. The optimal combination of parameters is obtained from the minimum expected total cost per item produced under the specified average outgoing quality limit (AOQL) protection. One needs to have the optimal clearance number, sampling frequency, and specification limit coefficient. Then Dodge-Romig rectifying inspection plan is applied in the product improvement. The optimal sample size, clearance number, and quality investment are obtained by minimizing the expected total cost per lot under the specified consumer's risk.

Abstract:Quality Assurance (QA) is an integral part of the software development process. Many models have been developed to help software development teams to build high quality software. However, most of the models are targeted to big teams with sophisticated managements and plenty of resources. It could be difficult for small and agile teams to implement these models. We are proposing a new Agile Quality Assurance Model (AQAM), which is flexible to incorporate new changes in the software industry and provides detailed guidelines and templates for real world implementation and customization. It is mainly for small and medium sized agile software development teams to analyze and improve their QA capabilities. AQAM has 20 Key Process Areas (KPAs) and each KPA includes guidelines, benefits, processes, best practices, templates, customization, and maturity levels.

Abstract:From a regulatory perspective, drug quality consistency evaluation must concern different processes used for the same drug. In this study, an assessment strategy based on quality by design (QbD) was developed for population pharmaceutical quality evaluation. A descriptive analysis method based on QbD concept was first established to characterize the process by critical evaluation attributes (CEAs). Then quantitative analysis method based on an improved statistical process control (SPC) method was established to investigate the process indicators (PIs) in the process population, such as mean distribution, batch-to-batch difference and abnormal quality probability. After that rules for risk assessment were established based on the SPC limitations and parameters. Both the SPC parameters of the CEAs and the risk of PIs were visualized according to the interaction test results to obtain a better understanding of the population pharmaceutical quality. Finally, an assessment strategy was built and applied to generic drug consistency assessment, process risk assessment and quality trend tracking. The strategy demonstrated in this study could help reveal quality consistency from the perspective of process control and process risk, and further show the recent development status of domestic pharmaceutical production processes. In addition, a process risk assessment and population quality trend tracking provide data-based information for approval. Not only can this information serve as a further basis for decision-making by the regulatory authority regarding early warnings, but it can also reduce some avoidable adverse reactions. With continuous addition of data, dynamic population pharmaceutical quality is meaningful for emergencies and decision-making regarding drug regulation.

Abstract:Due to worldwide awareness of the sustainable environment, research on green production and distribution has grown within academic and industrial communities. For an eco‐friendly environment, limiting hazardous substances (HSs) concentration in products quality assessment is one of the most crucial strategies to achieve the 4Rs of the products, namely, Reduction, Reuse, Recycle, and Recovery. Trustworthy inspection, evaluation, and validation methods to ensure multiprocess yield and risk of acquiring green product quality are desired for the industry. However, the existing methods use arbitrary inspection sizes, levels of capability, and ignore controls for both Types I and II risks. To overcome these drawbacks and pursue Six‐Sigma green capability suppliers, this study establishes a multiprocess performance chart, called the green product quality analysis chart (GPQAC), to inspect and analyze green product submissions. GPQAC implements variables sampling plans based on unilateral and bilateral process capability indices. The chart operates at given Six‐Sigma green and quality compliance and simultaneously controlled Type I and Type II risks. The required sample size and rejection and acceptance capability zones are determined from the multiprocess optimization taking into account the Bonferroni correction. This determination enables GPQAC to aggregate the overall status of a group of processes and assess the ability of the supplier processes to execute efficiently and economically relative to the customer specifications. We also establish web‐based GPQAC graphs using a cloud‐computing program for lot disposition. Finally, a real‐world case illustrates the utility of the GPQAC integrated variables sampling scheme in enhancing environmental sustainability.
