Abstract:The large top-quark samples collected with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC have yielded measurements of the inclusive \ttbar production cross section of unprecedented precision and differential measurements in new kinematic regimes.They have also enabled new measurements of top-quark properties that were previously inaccessible, enabled the observation of many rare top-quark production processes predicted by the Standard Model and boosted searches for flavour-changing-neutral-current interactions of the top-quark, that are heavily suppressed in the SM. In this contribution the highlights of the ATLAS top-quark physics program are presented, as well as projections of the expected sensitivity after the High Luminosity phase of the LHC. Abstract:With a high instantaneous luminosity and the large top quark pair production cross section, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be a "top factory" allowing the analysis of millions of top events. After a short description of the top quark pair production mechanism and the cross section measurement, the accuracy of the top mass measurement needed for a sound consistency check of the Standard Model is briefly discussed. Different top mass measurement methods are presented. The observability of the single top quark production is described. Finally the observation of the Higgs boson produced in association with a top quark pair is discussed.

Abstract:We discuss the production and the decay of top quark through flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) interaction at future linear colliders. We first discuss the theoretical predictions of top quark FCNC decays into $qH$ and $qZ$ within a class of $t$-channel simplified dark matter models. For the existing bounds on the top quark FCNC interactions at the Large Hadron Collider, we estimate the production rates of top quark through FCNC interactions at future linear colliders for energies from $250$ GeV to $3$ TeV.

Abstract:We review the physics potential of top mass measurements and the GigaZ/MegaW options of the International Linear Collider (ILC) for probing New Physics models and especially the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We demonstrate that the anticipated experimental accuracies at the ILC for the top-quark mass, m_t, the W boson mass, M_W, and the effective leptonic weak mixing angle, sin^2 theta_eff, will provide a high sensitivity to quantum effects of New Physics. In particular, a new and more precise measurement of sin^2 theta_eff, for which the experimental central value is currently obtained from an average where the most precise single measurements differ by more than three standard deviations, could lead to a situation where both the Standard Model and the MSSM in its most general form are ruled out. Alternatively, the precision measurements may resolve virtual effects of SUSY particles even in scenarios where the SUSY particles are so heavy that they escape direct detection at the LHC and the first phase of the ILC.

Abstract:Searches for new physics in the top quark sector are of great theoretical interest, yet some powerful avenues for discovery remain unexplored. We characterize the expected statistical power of the LHC dataset to constrain the single production of heavy top partners $T$ decaying to a top quark and a photon or a top quark and a gluon. We describe an effective interaction which could generate such production, though the limits apply to a range of theoretical models. We find sensitivity to cross sections in the $10^{2}-10^{5}$ fb range, for $T$ masses between 300 and 1000 GeV, depending on decay mode.

Abstract:The High-Luminosity LHC is expected to provide $3 ab^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. As a result billions of events containing top quarks will be detected at the CMS and ATLAS experiments, allowing for precise measurements of the top quark properties. The experimental challenges that will be faced in a high luminosity environment, with a special focus on top quark related observables are examined. We discuss prospects for measuring top quark anomalous couplings at the HL-LHC. Projections for detecting flavor changing neutral currents involving top quarks are also reviewed.

Abstract:In a simplified model including a singlet vectorlike top quark T with charge |Q|=2/3 , we investigate the single production of T decaying into tZ at the 14 TeV LHC, 27 TeV high energy LHC (HE-LHC), and 100 TeV hadron-hadron Future Circular Hadron Collider (FCC-hh). In the four flavor scheme, we make detailed detector simulations and the background analysis. We find that the excluding and discovering capability is enhanced obviously with the increase of the collision energy. The model includes only two free parameters, the coupling constant g* , and top quark partner mass mT . For the highest integrated luminosity designed, the excluding capability can be given as follows: (1) the LHC can exclude the correlated regions g*∈[0.085,0.50] with mT∈[1000 GeV,1840 GeV] for L=3000 fb−1 ; (2) the HE-LHC can exclude the correlated regions g*∈[0.035,0.50] with mT∈[1000 GeV,2610 GeV] for L=15 ab−1 ; (3) the FCC-hh can exclude the correlated regions g*∈[0.005,0.50] with mT∈[1000 GeV,4270 GeV] for L=30 ab−1 . Abstract:The investigation of flavour-changing neutral current transitions(FCNC) involving the top quark are only possible with new theoretical frameworks that extend the Standard Model(SM), given that these transitions are almost entirely suppressed within the SM. In this regard, examining these transitions with extended theories beyond the SM may provide significant insights into future experiments. To this end, we present a phenomological study about the anomalous FCNC transitions via couplings with effective field theory. Here, , , and processes are investigated for the CLIC at TeV and 3 TeV. Thus, we have calculated the constraints at confidence level on the . As a result, the obtained constraints are at least one order of magnitude better than the available experimental ones.

Abstract:As the fundamental theory of strong interactions, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) plays a crucial role in precision tests of the standard model (SM) and in the search for new physics. In this article, we provide a brief overview of recent progress in QCD studies relevant to collider physics, focusing on fixed-order calculations and resummation techniques, parton distribution functions and their calculations, as well as their impact on the search for new physics, SM precision tests, and studying the intrinsic properties of hadrons. Based on this, we also discuss the prospects of their applications and intersections with other disciplines in the future.

Abstract:Supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions have taught us many important physics lessons. These can both inform and be informed by future work on the lattice. I focus on three issues: the properties of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and its relation to the non-supersymmetric case; the properties of gauge theories with matter and their relation to real QCD; and, briefly, the recent discovery that gauge theories and string theories are more deeply connected than ever previously realized. Specific questions for lattice gauge theorists to consider are raised in the context of the first two topics.

Abstract:In top-pair events where at least one of the tops decays semi-leptonically, the identification of the lepton charge allows to tag not only the top charge but also that of the subsequent b quark. In cases where the b also decays semi-leptonically, the charge of the two leptons can be used to probe CP violation in heavy flavor mixing and decays. This strategy to measure CP violation is independent of those adopted so far in experiments, and can already constrain non Standard Model sources of CP violation with current and near future LHC data. To demonstrate the potential of this method we construct two CP asymmetries based on same-sign and opposite-sign leptons and estimate their sensitivities. This proposal opens a new window for doing precision measurements of CP violation in b and c quark physics via high p_T processes at ATLAS and CMS.
