Abstract:We investigate the QCD effects in the production of neutral Higgs bosons via bottom quark fusion in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We include the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections (including supersymmetric QCD) and the threshold resummation effects. We use the soft-collinear effective theory to resum the large logarithms near threshold from soft gluon emission. Our results show that the resummation effects can enhance the total cross sections by about 5% compared with the NLO results.

Abstract:I discuss the effects of QCD radiative corrections in Supersymmetric theories. After summarizing the SUSY-QCD lagrangian in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, I will discuss the new features introduced by SUSY, and the main complications compared to standard QCD corrections. I will then discuss a few examples of QCD calculations in SUSY theories, for standard processes and for processes involving SUSY particles including the extended Higgs sector.

Abstract:As the fundamental theory of strong interactions, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) plays a crucial role in precision tests of the standard model (SM) and in the search for new physics. In this article, we provide a brief overview of recent progress in QCD studies relevant to collider physics, focusing on fixed-order calculations and resummation techniques, parton distribution functions and their calculations, as well as their impact on the search for new physics, SM precision tests, and studying the intrinsic properties of hadrons. Based on this, we also discuss the prospects of their applications and intersections with other disciplines in the future.

Abstract:We develop a framework for a systematic resummation of the transverse momentum distribution of top-quark pairs produced at hadron colliders based on effective field theory. Compared to Drell-Yan and Higgs production, a novel soft function matrix is required to account for the soft gluon emissions from the final states. We calculate this soft function at the next-to-leading order, and perform the resummation at the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We compare our results with parton shower programs and with the experimental data at the Tevatron and the LHC. We also discuss the implications for the top quark charge asymmetry.

Abstract:The top-pair production in association with a Z(0)-boson at a photon-photon collider is an important process in probing the coupling between top-quarks and vector boson and discovering the signature of possible new physics. We describe the impact of the complete supersymmetric QCD (SQCD) next-to-leading order (NLO) radiative corrections on this process at a polarized or unpolarized photon collider, and make a comparison between the effects of the SQCD and the standard model (SM) QCD. We investigate the dependence of the lowest-order (LO) and QCD NLO corrected cross sections in both the SM and minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) on colliding energy root s in different polarized photon collision modes. The LO, SM NLO, and SQCD NLO corrected distributions of the invariant mass of t (t) over bar -pair and the transverse momenta of final Z(0)-boson are presented. Our numerical results show that the pure SQCD effects in gamma gamma -> t (t) over barZ(0) process can be more significant in the + + polarized photon collision mode than in other collision modes, and the relative SQCD radiative correction in unpolarized photon collision mode varies from 32.09% to -1.89% when root s goes up from 500 GeV to 1.5 TeV.

Abstract:Heavy-ion collisions involve strongly coupled dynamics of QCD in the entire history of time evolution. We review recent theoretical efforts to meet this challenge, focusing on the two approaches that the speaker has contributed to: 1) Holography or AdS/CFT correspondence, and 2) Symmetry protected phenomena such as those originating from triangle anomaly. The presentation is oriented to non-experts on these fields, and hence relies on intuitive pictures of the methods and the results, without going into specific details.

Precise QCD Predictions on Top Quark Pair Production Mediated by Massive Color-Octet Vector Boson at Hadron Colliders

Abstract:We present a theoretical framework for systematically calculating next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD effects to various experimental observables in models with massive COVB in a model independent way at hadron colliders. Specifically, we show the numerical results for the NLO QCD corrections to total cross sections, invariant mass distribution and A(FB) of top quark pairs production mediated by a massive COVB in both the fixed scale (top quark mass) scheme and the dynamical scale (top pair invariant mass) scheme. Our results show that the NLO QCD calculations in the dynamical scale scheme is more reasonable than the fixed scheme and the naive estimate of the NLO effects by simple rescaling of the LO results with the SM NLO K-factor is not appropriate.

I emphasize the role played by the chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) in analyzing the lattice data of various physical quantities, including chiral condensate, topological susceptibility, and pion mass and decay constant. I then discuss on the status of determination of fundamental parameters and other quantities of phenomenological interest.

Abstract:Rare decays in flavor physics often suffer from Helicity suppress and Loop suppress. Helicity flip is a direct consequence of chiral $U(3)$ symmetry breaking and electroweak symmetry breaking. The identical feature is also shared by the mass generation of SM fermions. In this review, we use the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as an example to illustrate an explicit connection between bottom Yukawa coupling and rare decay process of $b\rightarrow s\gamma $. We take a symmetry approach to study the common symmetry breaking in supersymmetric correction to bottom quark mass generation and $b\rightarrow s\gamma $. We show that Large Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking effect and $R$-symmetry breaking effect required by $b\rightarrow s\gamma $ inevitably lead to significant reduction of bottom Yukawa ${y}_{b}$. To compromise the reduction in $b\bar{b}$, a new decay is also needed to keep the Higgs total width as the SM value.

Abstract:In this talk we apply two factorisation theorems to top quark pair production at hadron colliders. The factorisation theorems allow for the resummation of threshold logarithms as well as the resummation of small-mass logarithms in the threshold limit. We combine these two resummed results performing a joint resummation and match to NNLO fixed order results yielding predictions for the pair invariant mass (PIM) and top quark $p_T$ distributions at NNLO+NNLL$'$ accuracy. In particular we find the resummed results for the PIM distributions are much more stable with respect to the parametric choice of factorisation scale.

Abstract:The supersymmetric QCD corrections to top quark pair production by qq annihilation in pp collisions are calculated in the minimal supersymmetric model. We consider effects of the mixing of the scalar top quarks on the corrections to the total tt production cross section at the Fermilab Tevatron. We found that such a correction is less sensitive to the squark mass and gluino mass than in the no-mixing case, and in both cases the corrections can exceed 10% even if we consider the recent CDF limit on squark and gluino masses.

Abstract:These lectures stress the theoretical elements that underlie a wide range of phenomenological studies of high-energy QCD, which include both soft and hard processes. After a brief introduction to the basics of QCD, various aspects of QCD-based phenomenology are covered: colour transparency, hadronization of colour charges, Regge phenomenology, parton model, Bjorken scaling and its violation, DGLAP evolution equation, BFKL formalism, GLR-MQ evolution equation and saturation. In the last part of the lecture, we employ the light-cone dipole formalism to describe deep inelastic lepton scattering, Drell-Yan processes, direct photon production, diffraction, quark and gluon shadowing in nuclei, the Cronin effect and nuclear broadening.

Novel High Transverse Momentum Phenomena in Hadronic and Nuclear Collisions

Abstract:I discuss a number of novel phenomenological features of QCD in high transverse momentum reactions. The presence of direct higher-twist processes, where a proton is produced directly in the hard subprocess, can explain the "baryon anomaly" -- the large proton-to-pion ratio seen at RHIC in high centrality heavy ion collisions. Direct hadronic processes can also account for the deviation from leading-twist PQCD scaling at fixed x_T = 2p_T/\sqrt s. I suggest that the "ridge" -- the same-side long-range rapidity correlation observed at RHIC in high centrality heavy ion collisions is due to the imprint of semihard DGLAP gluon radiation from initial-state partons which have transverse momenta biased toward the trigger. Rescattering interactions from gluon-exchange, normally neglected in the parton model, have a profound effect in QCD hard-scattering reactions, leading to leading-twist single-spin asymmetries, diffractive deep inelastic scattering, diffractive hard hadronic reactions, the breakdown of the Lam-Tung relation in Drell-Yan reactions, nuclear shadowing --all leading-twist dynamics not incorporated in the light-front wavefunctions of the target computed in isolation. Antishadowing is shown to be quark flavor specific and thus different in charged and neutral deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering. I also discuss the consequences of color-octet intrinsic heavy quark distributions in the proton for heavy particle and Higgs production at high x_F. The AdS/CFT correspondence between Anti-de Sitter space and conformal gauge theories allows one to compute the analytic form of frame-independent light-front wavefunctions of mesons and baryons and to compute quark and gluon hadronization at the amplitude level.

Abstract:Supersymmetric QCD corrections to top quark pair production by gamma gamma fusion at high energy e(+)e(-) linear colliders are calculated in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. We carefully consider the contributions from the scalar top quarks. It is shown that the relative correction to the production cross section can exceed -5% for certain values of the parameters.
Soft Gluon Resummation Effects in Single Slepton Production at Hadron Colliders

Abstract:We study QCD effects in single graviton production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the Randall-Sundrum (RS) model. We present in detail the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the inclusive total cross sections. The NLO QCD corrections enhance significantly the total cross sections and decrease efficiently the dependence of the total cross sections on the factorization and renormalization scales. We also examine the uncertainty of the total cross sections due to the parton distribution function (PDF) uncertainties. For the differential cross sections on the transverse momentum (${q}_{T}$) of the graviton, within the CSS resummation formalism, we resum the logarithmically-enhanced terms at small ${q}_{T}$ to all orders up to NLO logatithmic accuracy. Combined with the fixed-order calculations, we give consistent predictions for both small ${q}_{T}$ and large ${q}_{T}$.
