Abstract:The best polynomial approximation is closely related to the Ditzian–Totik modulus of smoothness. In 1988, Z. Ditzian and V. Totik gave some equivalences between them and the class of Besov-type spacesBα,spwith 1≤p≤∞ and 1≤s≤∞. We extend these equivalences to the similar Besov-type spaces with 0<s<1. We also give some new equivalences by means of the behavior of best polynomial approximation.

Abstract:In this paper, we apply the method of approximate transformation groups proposed by Baikov, Gaziziv and Ibragimov, to compute the first-order approximate symmetry for the Gardner equations with the small parameters. We compute the optimal system and analyze some invariant solutions of These types of equations. Particularly, general forms of approximately Galilean-invariant solutions have been computed.

Abstract:In 1996 N. Chevallier proved a beautiful lemma which connects Diophantine approximation and multidimensional generalizations of the famous Three Distance Theorem. Using this lemma we show how known results about multidimensional three distance theorem can be deduced from certain known results dealing with the best Diophantine approximations. Also we obtain some new results about liminf version of the problem. Beside this, we discuss the inverse problem: how results about multidimensional three distance theorem can be applied to study best Diophantine approximations.

Abstract:Let $\theta\in\mathbb{R}^d$. We associate three objects to each approximation $(p,q)\in \mathbb{Z}^d\times \mathbb{N}$ of $\theta$: the projection of the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^{d+1}$ to the hyperplane of the first $d$ coordinates along the approximating vector $(p,q)$; the displacement vector $(p - q\theta)$; and the residue classes of the components of the $(d + 1)$-tuple $(p, q)$ modulo all primes. All of these have been studied in connection with Diophantine approximation problems. We consider the asymptotic distribution of all of these quantities, properly rescaled, as $(p, q)$ ranges over the best approximants and $\epsilon$-approximants of $\theta$, and describe limiting measures on the relevant spaces, which hold for Lebesgue a.e. $\theta$. We also consider a similar problem for vectors $\theta$ whose components, together with 1, span a totally real number field of degree $d+1$. Our technique involve recasting the problem as an equidistribution problem for a cross-section of a one-parameter flow on an adelic space, which is a fibration over the space of $(d + 1)$-dimensional lattices. Our results generalize results of many previous authors, to higher dimensions and to joint equidistribution.

Abstract:This arXiv submission is a translation of the Dr Sci Thesis by Prof Grigori Kuzmin, written in Russian and defended in 1970. The Thesis based on Kuzmin's papers was written in Russian and published in Tartu Observatory Publications or Russian-language conference proceedings. But for the Thesis G. Kuzmin wrote extras, which are published here for the first time. Most chapters of the Thesis were translated in full. In some chapters, we used the English summaries written by Kuzmin. We add as appendix English translations of three papers, written by Kuzmin after the defence of the Thesis, one of them published here also the first time. The Thesis consists of three parts. Part I is "Gravitational potential and mass distribution of the Galaxy. The third integral of stellar motion" and consists of 10 chapters. Part II is "Spatio-kinematical structure of self-gravitating stationary stellar systems and some general problems of dynamics of stellar systems" and consists of 6 chapters. Part III is "Time evolution of the structure of stellar systems. The effect of irregular forces" and consists of 6 chapters. In Appendix, three later articles were included. Present translation starts with the preface by Prof. Jaan Einasto.

Abstract:Considering simultaneous approximation to three numbers, we study the geometry of the sequence of best approximations. We provide a sharper lower bound for the ratio between ordinary and uniform exponent of Diophantine approximation, optimal in terms of this geometry.

Abstract:In Gauthier, Manolaki, and Nestoridis (2021, Advances in Mathematics 381, 107649), in order to correct a false Mergelyan-type statement given in Gamelin and Garnett (1969, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society 143, 187–200) on uniform approximation on compact sets K in , the authors introduced a natural function algebra which is smaller than the classical one . In the present paper, we investigate when these two algebras coincide and compare them with the classes of all plausibly approximable functions by polynomials or rational functions or functions holomorphic on open sets containing the compact set K . Finally, we introduce a notion of O -hull of K and strengthen known results.

Abstract:Finding exact analytic solutions to the partial equations is one of the most challenging problems in mathematical physics. Generally speaking, the exact solution to many categories of such equations can not be found. In these cases, the use of numerical and approximate methods is inevitable. Nevertheless, the exact PDE solver methods are always preferred because they present the solution directly without any restrictions to use. This article aims to examine the perturbed Gerdjikov-Ivanov equation in an exact approach point of view. This equation plays a significant role in non-linear fiber optics. It also has many important applications in photonic crystal fibers. To this end, firstly, we obtain some novel optical solutions of the equation via a newly proposed analytical method called generalized exponential rational function method. In order to understand the dynamic behavior of these solutions, several graphs are plotted. To the best of our knowledge, these two techniques have never been tested for the equation in the literature. The findings of this article may have a high significance application while handling the other non-linear PDEs.

Abstract:We introduce general translations as solutions to Cauchy or Dirichlet problems. This point of view allows us to handle the heat-diffusion semigroup as a translation. With the given examples Kolmogorov-Riesz characterization of compact sets in certain $L^p_\mu$ spaces are given. Pego-type characterizations are also derived. Finally for some examples the equivalence of the corresponding modulus of smoothness and K-functional is pointed out.

Abstract:Abstract We strengthen the classical approximation theorems of Weierstrass, Runge, and Mergelyan by showing the polynomial and rational approximants can be taken to have a simple geometric structure. In particular, when approximating a function $f$ on a compact set $K$, the critical points of our approximants may be taken to lie in any given domain containing $K$, and all the critical values in any given neighborhood of the polynomially convex hull of $f(K)$.

Abstract:The problem of equivalence of digital translation in the global Internet network is considered. The subject of the study is the errors of digital translation in texts posted on the Internet in the Facebook network. The method of comparative semantic-contextual analysis is used. As a result of the study of texts translated from Bulgarian into Russian, it was found that communication failures are observed at all language levels: lexical-semantic, word-formation, grammatical and at the level of value-modal assessment of the situation. Translation errors reveal the use of English as an intermediary language in the translation of Slavic texts in network systems. It is concluded that the improvement of digital translation models requires more attention to the lexical-semantic, word-formation and grammatical specifics of the Slavic languages, to their realities and language pictures of the world.

Abstract:Background. An adequate translation should fulfill the purpose of communication, which is imbedded in the original. At the same time, it is necessary to take into consideration both the content of the text and its pragmatic function. The translator`s task is using various types of translation transformations to select adequate lexical, phraseological, grammatical structures to maintain the pragmatic function of the translation at the level of the original. The authors of the article study the most interesting examples of translation difficulties based on the material of the monograph A.R. Kroeber China’s Economy: What Everyone Needs to Know and offer their own variants of their translation. Purpose. Analysis of the translation difficulties of a popular scientific text on economic topics. Materials and methods. The main research method is comparative analysis. The article is based on the text of the monograph A.R. Kroeber China’s Economy: What Everyone Needs to Know. Results. Analysis of the text of the monograph (parts 2.6-3.3 / 30,048 sign.) has revealed more than 200 translation difficulties with the help of which the pragmatic function of the text is preserved. These linguistic phenomena require detailed analysis using logical thinking, linguistic and extensive background knowledge for their adequate translation. The results of the research can be used in the preparation of lecture materials and practical tasks for the program "Translator in the field of professional communication" in disciplines focused on translation studies.
