Abstract:This study investigated the role of electrode material, electrolyte type and concentration, and surfactant on the electrochemical synthesis of copper nanoparticles. The cathode material was varied in four levels of copper, gold, steel, and rhodium; the CTAB concentration was changed in three levels of 0, 4, and 6 g/L. In this research, instead of 7.6 g/L Cu(NO 3 ) 2 , CuSO 4 was adjusted in three concentration levels of 5, 10, and 30 mmol. The morphology, composition, particle size, and distribution of the samples were examined by FESEM, XRD, and DLS. The results showed that copper and gold cathodes could produce smaller crystallites. XRD analysis showed that the best purity of copper nanoparticles was obtained by copper cathode. SEM results showed that gold cathode led to the formation of spherical and non-cubic particles, while copper cathode resulted in cubic-shaped particles. By increasing the amount of CTAB, the purity of copper increased and effectively prevented the growth of copper nanoparticles. The crystallinity index was more than one, and the copper metal was polycrystalline. By increasing the concentration of CuSO 4 in electrolyte, the crystallite size first decreased (up to 10 mmol) and then increased. The crystallinity index of the sample with 10 mmol CuSO 4 concentration was close to one, and the copper metal was monocrystalline.
