Abstract:Using Fourier-Mukai transformations, we prove some results about the ring of unipotent vector bundles on elliptic curves in positive characteristics. This ring was determined by Atiyah in characteristic zero, who showed that it is a polynomial ring in one variable. It turns out that the situation in characteristic p>0 is completely different and rather bizarre: the ring is nonnoetherian and contains a subring whose spectrum contains infinitely many copies of Spec(Z), which are glued with successively higher and higher infinitesimal identification at the point corresponding to the prime p.

Abstract:We define formal orbifolds over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic as curves together with some branch data. Their étale coverings and their fundamental groups are also defined. These fundamental group approximates the fundamental group of an appropriate affine curve. We also define vector bundles on these objects and the category of orbifold bundles on any smooth projective curve. Analogues of various statement about vector bundles which are true in characteristic zero are proved. Some of these are positive characteristic avatar of notions which appear in the second author's work ([Par]) in characteristic zero.

We prove a condition for the existence of flat bundles on the punctured two-sphere with prescribed holonomies around the punctures, involving Gromov-Witten invariants of generalized flag varieties. This generalizes the case of special unitary bundles described by S. Agnihotri and the second author and independently P. Belkale.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex surface obtained as the quotient of the complex Euclidean space $\mathbb{C}^2$ by a discrete subgroup of rank $3$. We investigate the cohomology group $H_0^1(X, E)$ with compact support for a unitary flat line bundle $E$ over $X$. We show the vanishing of $H_0^1(X, E)$ for a certain class of such pairs $(X, E)$, which includes infinitely many examples such that $H^1(X, E)$ is non-Hausdorff and infinite dimensional.

Semistable Non Abelian Hodge theorem in positive characteristic

Abstract:In this paper, we show that for any reductive group $G$ the moduli space of semistable $G$-Higgs bundles on a curve in characteristic $p$ is a twisted form of the moduli space of semistable flat $G$-connections. This is the semistable version of a previous result of Chen-Zhu, and the $G$-bundle version of a previous result of de Cataldo-Groechenig-Zhang. As a consequence, we show that the Decomposition Theorem for the Hitchin morphism for $G$-Higgs bundles has the same shape as that for the de Rham-Hitchin morphism for flat $G$-connections.

Abstract:We investigate a conjecture due to Haefliger and Thurston in the context of foliated manifold bundles. In this context, Haefliger-Thurston's conjecture predicts that every $M$-bundle over a manifold $B$ where $\text{dim}(B)\leq \text{dim}(M)$ is cobordant to a flat $M$-bundle. In particular, we study the bordism class of flat $M$-bundles over low dimensional manifolds, comparing a finite dimensional Lie group $G$ with $\text{Diff}_0(G)$ and localizing the holonomy of flat M-bundles to be supported in a ball.

Equivariant Vector Bundles on the Drinfeld Upper Half Space over a Local Field of Positive Characteristic

Abstract:We describe the locally analytic $\mathrm{GL}_d(K)$-representations which arise as the global sections of homogeneous vector bundles on the projective space restricted to the Drinfeld upper half space over a non-archimedean local field $K$. We thereby generalize work of Orlik (2008) for $p$-adic fields to the effect that it becomes applicable to local fields of positive characteristic. Our description of this space of global sections is in terms of a filtration by subrepresentations, and a characterization of the resulting subquotients via adaptations of the functors $\mathcal{F}^G_P$ considered by Orlik-Strauch (2015) and Agrawal-Strauch (2022). For a local field $K$ of positive characteristic, we also determine the locally analytic (resp. continuous) characters of $K^\times$ with values in $K$-Banach algebras which are integral domains (resp. with values in finite extensions of $K$) in an appendix.

Simpson's correspondence on singular varieties in positive characteristic

Abstract:The main aim of the paper is to provide analogues of Simpson's correspondence on singular projective varieties defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. There are two main cases. In the first case, we consider analogues of numerically flat vector bundles on a big open subset of a normal projective variety (with arbitrary singularities). Here we introduce the S-fundamental group scheme for quasi-projective varieties that admit compactifications with complement of codimension $\ge 2$. We prove that this group scheme coincides with the S-funda\-men\-tal group scheme of the regular locus of any of its (small) projective compactification. In particular, it provides a new invariant for normal projective varieties isomorphic in codimension $1$. In the second case, we consider vector bundles with an integrable $\lambda$-connection on a normal projective variety $X$ that is (almost) liftable modulo $p^2$. In this case we restrict to varieties with $F$-liftable singularities that are analogous to log canonical singularities. We prove that a semistable Higgs vector bundle on the regular locus of $X$, with appropriately defined vanishing Chern classes, admits a canonical Higgs--de Rham flow. This provides an analogue of some results due to D. Greb, S. Kebekus, B. Taji and T. Peternell. Finally, we give some applications of the obtained results, also to varieties defined in characteristic zero.

Hecke algebras for the 1st congruence subgroup and bundles on ${\mathbb P}^1$ I: the case of finite field

Abstract:Let $G$ be a split reductive group over a finite field $k$. In this note we study the space $V$ of finitely supported functions on the set of isomorphism classes $G$-bundles on the projective line ${\mathbb P}^1$ endowed with a trivialization at $0$ and $\infty$. We show that $V$ is naturally isomorphic to the regular bimodule over the Hecke algebra $A$ of the group $G(k((t)))$ with respect to the first congruence subgroup. As a byproduct we show that Hecke operators at points different from $0$ and $\infty$ to generate the "stable center" of $A$. We provide an expression of the character of the lifting of an irreducible cuspidal representation of $GL(N,k)$ to $GL(N,k')$ where $k'$ is a finite extension of $k$ in terms of these generators. In a subsequent publication we plan to develop analogous constructions in the case when $k$ is replaced by a local non-archimedian field.

On invariants of foliated sphere bundles

Abstract:Morita showed that for each power of the Euler class, there are examples of flat $\mathbb{S}^1$-bundles for which the power of the Euler class does not vanish. Haefliger asked if the same holds for flat odd-dimensional sphere bundles. In this paper, for a manifold $M$ with a free torus action, we prove that certain $M$-bundles are cobordant to a flat $M$-bundle and as a consequence, we answer Haefliger's question. We show that the powers of the Euler class and Pontryagin classes $p_i$ for $i\leq n-1$ are all non-trivial in $H^*(\text{BDiff}^{\delta}_+(\mathbb{S}^{2n-1});\mathbb{Q})$. In the appendix, Nils Prigge corrects a claim by Haefliger about the vanishing of certain classes in the smooth group cohomology of $\text{Diff}_+(\mathbb{S}^3)$.

Generalized complex structure on certain principal torus bundles

Abstract:A principal torus bundle over a complex manifold with even dimensional fiber and characteristic class of type $(1,1)$ admits a family of regular generalized complex structures (GCS) with the fibers as leaves of the associated symplectic foliation. We show that such a generalized complex structure is equivalent to the product of the complex structure on the base and the symplectic structure on the fiber in a tubular neighborhood of an arbitrary fiber if and only if the bundle is flat. This has consequences for the generalized Dolbeault cohomology of the bundle that includes a Künneth formula. On a more general note, if a principal bundle over a complex manifold with a symplectic structure group admits a GCS with the fibers of the bundle as leaves of the associated symplectic foliation, and the GCS is equivalent to a product GCS in a neighborhood of every fiber, then the bundle is flat and symplectic.

A Nonabelian Hodge Correspondence for Principal Bundles in Positive Characteristic

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a nonabelian Hodge correspondence for principal bundles on a smooth variety $X$ in positive characteristic, which generalizes the Ogus-Vologodsky correspondence for vector bundles. Then we extend the correspondence to logahoric torsors over a log pair $(X,D)$, where $D$ a reduced normal crossing divisor in $X$. As an intermediate step, we prove a correspondence between principal bundles on root stacks $\mathscr{X}$ and parahoric torsors on $(X,D)$, which generalizes the correspondence on curves given by Balaji--Seshadri to higher dimensional case.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop canonical bundle formulas for fibrations of relative dimension one in characteristic $p>0$. For such a fibration from a log pair $f\colon (X, \Delta) \to S$, if $f$ is separable, we can obtain a formula similar to the one due to Witaszek \cite{Wit21}; if $f$ is inseparable, we treat the case when $S$ is of maximal Albanese dimension. As an application, we prove that for a klt pair $(X,\Delta)$ with $-(K_X+\Delta)$ nef, if the Albanese morphism $a_X\colon X \to A$ is of relative dimension one, then $X$ is a fiber space over $A$.

Abstract:We give a classification of all equivariant line of bundles on the semi-stable model $\hat{\mathbb{H}}$ of the Drinfeld upper half plane $\mathbb{H}$ on $\mathbb{Q}_p$ for a certain subgroup $[G]_2$ of ${\rm GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ of index $2$. Then we study the cohomology groups of these line bundles that we restrict on the special fiber $\bar{\mathbb{H}}$ and this process provides a whole family of mod $p$ representations. In particular, we exhibit a class of $[G]_2$-equivariant line bundles on $\bar{\mathbb{H}}$ (the so-called positives of weight $-1$) and show that they are in one-to-one correspondence with the irreducible supersingular representations of $[G]_2$ (a notion we define) by taking the contragredient of the global sections.
