Abstract:Let $k \ge 1$ be an integer and $f$ a holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb P^k (\mathbb C)$ of algebraic degree $d\geq 2$. We introduce a volume dimension for ergodic $f$-invariant probability measures with strictly positive Lyapunov exponents. In particular, this class of measures includes all ergodic measures whose measure-theoretic entropy is strictly larger than $(k-1)\log d$, a natural generalization of the class of measures of positive measure-theoretic entropy in dimension 1. The volume dimension is equivalent to the Hausdorff dimension when $k=1$, but depends on the dynamics of $f$ to incorporate the possible failure of Koebe's theorem and the non-conformality of holomorphic endomorphisms for $k\geq 2$. If $\nu$ is an ergodic $f$-invariant probability measure with strictly positive Lyapunov exponents, we prove a generalization of the Mañé-Manning formula relating the volume dimension, the measure-theoretic entropy, and the sum of the Lyapunov exponents of $\nu$. As a consequence, we give a characterization of the first zero of a natural pressure function for such expanding measures in terms of their volume dimensions. For hyperbolic maps, such zero also coincides with the volume dimension of the Julia set, and with the exponent of a natural (volume-)conformal measure. This generalizes results by Denker-Urbański and McMullen in dimension 1 to any dimension $k\geq 1$. Our methods mainly rely on a theorem by Berteloot-Dupont-Molino, which gives a precise control on the distortion of inverse branches of endomorphisms along generic inverse orbits with respect to measures with strictly positive Lyapunov exponents.

Abstract:This is the third and final article in a series which prove the fact that a K-stable Fano manifold admits a Kähler-Einstein metric. In this paper we consider the Gromov-Hausdorff limits of metrics with cone singularities in the case when the limiting cone angle approaches 2 π \pi . We also put all our technical results together to complete the proof of the main theorem.

Abstract:In this article we define generalized pairs $(X, B+\boldsymbol{\beta})$ where $X$ is an analytic variety and $\boldsymbol{\beta}$ is a b-(1,1) current. We then prove that almost all standard results of the MMP hold in this generality for compact Kähler varieties of dim $X\leq 3$. More specifically, we prove the cone theorem, existence of flips, existence of log terminal models, log canonical models and Mori fiber spaces, the geography of log canonical and log terminal models, etc.

Abstract:We present an entropy formula of Ledrappier-Young type for invariant measures (maybe non-SRB) of C(2) endomorphisms (maybe non-invertible and with singularities) on a compact manifold via their inverse limit spaces. This result may be considered as the most general form of entropy formula for a deterministic system with an invariant measure, and a preliminary step to Eckmann-Ruelle conjecture. As an important application, we have proved the exact dimensionality of ergodic measures invariant under expanding maps.

Abstract:We investigate the metric and cohomological properties of higher dimensional analogues of Inoue surfaces, that were introduced by Endo and Pajitnov. We provide a solvmanifold structure and show that in the diagonalizable case, they are formal and have invariant de Rham cohomology. Moreover, we obtain an arithmetic and cohomological characterization of pluriclosed and astheno-Kähler metrics and show they give new examples in all complex dimensions.

Abstract:Bifurcations within holomorphic families of rational maps on the Riemann sphere are well understood since the works of Mañé-Sad-Sullivan and, independently, Lyubich in the eighties. Their techniques are however totally inoperant in a higher dimensional setting and one has therefore to adopt a different approach. For holomorphic families of endomorphisms on P this has been done in a joint work with Fabrizio Bianchi and Christophe Dupont. Our point of view on bifurcation phenomena combines ergodic and pluripotential-theoretic tools. In particular the Lyapunov exponents of the maximal entropy measure play an important role. Abstract:Motivated by a problem for mixed Monge-Ampère measures of convex functions, we address a special case of a conjecture of Schneider and show that for every convex body $K$ the support of the mixed area measure $S(K[j],B_L^{n-1}[n-1-j],\cdot)$ is given by the set of $(K[j],B_L^{n-1}[n-1-j])$-extreme unit normal vectors, where $B_L^{n-1}$ denotes the $(n-1)$-dimensional Euclidean unit ball in a hyperplane $L$. As a consequence, we see that the supports of these measures are nested. Our proof introduces a Kubota-type formula for mixed area measures, which involves integration over $j$-dimensional linear subspaces that contain a fixed $1$-dimensional subspace. We transfer these results to the analytic setting, where we obtain corresponding statements for (conjugate) mixed Monge-Ampère measures of convex functions. Thereby, we establish a fundamental property for functional intrinsic volumes. In addition, we study connections between mixed Monge-Ampère measures of convex functions and mixed area measures and mixed volumes of convex bodies.

Abstract:Let $f$ be an holomorphic endomorphism of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^k$. We construct by using coding techniques a class of ergodic measures as limits of non-uniform probability measures on preimages of points. We show that they have large metric entropy, close to $\log d^k$. We establish for them strong stochastic properties and prove the positivity of their Lyapunov exponents. Since they have large entropy, those measures are supported in the support of the maximal entropy measure of $f$. They in particular provide lower bounds for the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set.

Abstract:Cytochrome P-450-catalyzed epoxidation of (-)-(7 R ,8 R )-dihydroxy-7,8-dihydrobenzo( a )pyrene to (+)-(7 R ,8 S )-dihydroxy-(9 S ,10 R )-epoxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo( a )pyrene is now well recognized as the primary pathway by which benzo( a )pyrene is converted to an ultimate carcinogen. The present metabolism studies of 6-fluorobenzo( a )pyrene indicate ( a ) that the 6-fluoro substituent does not dramatically block the formation of quinones involving position 6 and ( b ) that substantially more (∼2-fold) of the 7,8-dihydrodiol is formed from 6-fluorobenzo( a )pyrene than is formed from benzo( a )pyrene. As is the case for benzo( a )pyrene, the 6-fluoro-7,8-dihydrodiol was found to be of high optical purity and has (7 R ,8 R )absolute configuration. Electrostatic repulsion appears to cause the fluorinated 4,5- as well as 7,8-dihydrodiols to prefer the pseudodiaxial rather than the pseudodiequatorial conformation observed for these dihydrodiols when formed from benzo( a )pyrene. Comparision of the tumor-initiating activities of benzo( a )pyrene and 6-fluorobenzo( a )pyrene on the skin of female Sencar mice indicates that the fluorinated hydrocarbon is far less active in the initiation of tumors. In addition, the metabolites of the fluorinated 7,8-dihydrodiol do not display strong mutagenic activity toward Chinese hamster V79 cells. Altered conformation of the fluorinated 7,8-dihydrodiol and the resultant 7,8-diol-9,10-epoxide diastereomer in which the benzylic 7-hydroxyl group and the epoxide oxygen are trans provides a plausible explanation for the weak tumorigenicity of 6-fluorobenzo( a )pyrene on mouse skin, since all benzo-ring dihydrodiols and diol-epoxides in which the hydroxyl groups prefer the pseudodiaxial conformation are weak or inactive as carcinogens. In formulating the bay-region theory, we had pointed out that perifluorine substituents such as at position 6 in benzo( a )pyrene have a marked inhibitory effect on the tumorigenicity of the hydrocarbon. The present results provide a basis for this “perieffect.”

We study the Schatten-von Neumann, in particular trace and weak trace class, properties of commutators [S-f*, S-f], and we prove the trace formulas for the commutators. Similar trace formulas for Hankel type operators are also obtained.

Abstract:By a formula of Villegas, the Mahler measures of $P_k(x,y)=x+1/x+y+1/y+k$ can be written as a Kronecker-Eisenstein series, where $k=\frac{4}{\sqrt{\lambda(2\tau)}}$ and $\lambda(\tau)=16\frac{\eta(\tau/2)^8\eta(2\tau)^{16}}{\eta(\tau)^{24}}$ is the modular lambda-function. If $\tau$ is taken to be CM points, we can use Villegas's formula to express the Mahler measures of $P_k$ as $L$-values of some modular forms. We prove that if $\tau_0$ is a CM point, then $\lambda(2\tau_0)$ is an algebraic number whose degree can be bounded by the product of the class numbers of $D_{\tau_0}$ and $D_{4\tau_0}$, where $D_{\tau}$ stands for the discriminant of a CM point $\tau$. Then we use the CM points with class numbers $\leqslant 2$ to obtain identities linking the Mahler measures of $P_k$ to $L$-values of modular forms. We get 35 identities, 5 of which are proven results, the others do not seem to appear in the literature. We also verify some cases of Beilinson's conjecture for elliptic curves over real quadratic fields that related to our discovery. Our method might also be used to other polynomial familys that mentioned in Villegas's paper.
Mahler Measure of Families of Polynomials Defining Genus 2 and 3 Curves

Abstract:In this article, we study the Mahler measures of more than 500 families of reciprocal polynomials defining genus 2 and genus 3 curves. We numerically find relations between the Mahler measures of these polynomials with special values of L-functions. We also numerically discover more than 100 identities between Mahler measures involving different families of polynomials defining genus 2 and genus 3 curves. Furthermore, we study the Mahler measures of several families of nonreciprocal polynomials defining genus 2 curves and numerically find relations between the Mahler measures of these families and special values of L-functions of elliptic curves. We also find identities between the Mahler measures of these nonreciprocal families and tempered polynomials defining genus 1 curves. We will explain these relations by considering the pushforward and pullback of certain elements in K2 of curves defined by these polynomials and applying Beilinson’s conjecture on K2 of curves. We show that there are two and three explicit linearly independent elements in K2 of certain families of genus 2 and genus 3 curves, respectively.

Abstract:Suppose M is a noncompact connected n-manifold and m is a good Radon measure of M with m(bdry M) = 0. Let H(M; m) denote the group of m-preserving homeomorphisms of M equipped with the compact-open topology and H_E(M; m) denote the subgroup consisting of all h in H(M; m) which fix the ends of M. Each h in H_E(M; m) moves mass toward ends and this quantity is measured by a mass flow homomorphism J : H_E(M; m) -> V_m, where V_m is a topological vector space. We show that the map J has a continuous section. This induces the factorization H_E(M; m) cong Ker J times V_m and implies that Ker J is a strong deformation retract of H_E(M; m).

Abstract:We define natural volume forms on $n$-dimensional oriented pseudo-Finslerian manifolds with non-degenerate $m$-th root metrics. Our definitions of the natural volume forms depend on the parity of the positive integer $m>1$. The advantage of the stated definitions is their algebraic structure. The natural volume forms are expressed in terms of Cayley hyperdeterminants. In particular, the computation of the natural volume form does not require the difficult integration over the domain within the indicatrix in the tangent space $T_x M^n$ of the pseudo-Finslerian manifold at a point $x$.
