Abstract:The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of different restorative protocols on fracture resistance of root canal-treated molars. 48 mandibular first molars were used and divided into six groups (n = 8); G1 (negative control): teeth kept intact. G2 (positive control): teeth had root canal treatment and standard MOD cavity preparations but kept unrestored. G3: prepared as G2 and directly restored with VitaEnamic ceramic overlays (CO). G4: as G3, but the pulp chamber was restored first with smart dental restorative (SureFil SDR flow = SDR) bulk-fill flowable composite base. G5: as G3, but the pulp chamber was restored first with SonicFill (SF) bulk-fill composite base. G6: as G3, but the pulp chamber was restored first with a fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) base. All samples were subjected to thermocycling between 5 °C and 55 °C in a water bath for a total of 2000 cycles with 10 s dwell time. Then specimens were individually mounted on a computer-controlled testing machine with a load cell of 5 kN, and the maximum load to produce fracture (N) was recorded. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test (P = 0.05). There was a significant difference between the groups (P < 0.001). Teeth restored with FRC and ceramic overlays had the highest load-bearing capacity. Pulp chamber restoration with either FRC or SDR before ceramic overlay fabrication provided significantly better tooth reinforcement than ceramic overlay alone (P < 0.001). Fracture modes were analyzed to determine the type of fracture as repairable or catastrophic, where FRC + CO and SDR + CO groups had favorable fracture modes that were mostly repairable. When restoring root canal-treated molars with overlays, the pulp chamber should be sealed with either FRC or SDR to ensure the best possible fracture resistance. The clinical relevance of the study is that a new simple restorative protocol is presented to enhance the survival of root canal-treated molars using ceramic overlays.

In Vitro Analysis of Outcome Differences Between Repairing and Replacing Broken Dental Restorations

Abstract:Objective In light of several advancements and considerations in endodontic dentistry, there still remains a need to comprehensively evaluate the outcome disparities between repairing and replacing broken dental restorations. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of repairing dental restorations versus replacing them, focusing on how each method affects the structural strength and longevity of the restorations. Methods The study included 60 freshly removed human maxillary premolars. Initial processing involved rigorous washing, descaling, and polishing of the teeth. To ensure preservation, the specimens were stored in sterile, distilled water. To occlude the root canals, a self-hardening composite resin was used, and the roots were coated with two coats of clear nail polish to prevent moisture penetration. A 245 carbide bur attached to a high-speed dental handpiece with air and water spray cooling produced standardized Class II cavities on the occluso-proximal surfaces. Each cavity had a buccolingual breadth of 2 mm, an occluso-cervical length of 4 mm, and a gingival boundary that was 1 mm coronal to the cement-enamel junction. Following this preparation, the teeth were randomly separated into three groups (Group A, Group B, and Group C), each containing 20 teeth. Results Our analysis showed that teeth with entirely replaced restorations had a higher average fracture resistance than those with repaired restorations. However, the difference in fracture resistance between the repair and replacement groups for each type of material was not statistically significant. Conclusion Based on the findings, repairing a dental restoration can be a conservative and less invasive alternative to a full replacement without a significant compromise in the restoration's ability to withstand fracture. Therefore, dental professionals might consider full restoration as a viable option, taking into account the need to preserve dental tissue as well as the restoration's durability and structural integrity.

Abstract:Background/purpose: The restoration of endodontically treated teeth (ETT) with cervical defects has been a challenge for dentists. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of restorative treatment on the fracture resistance of ETT with cervical defects. Materials and methods: One hundred and twenty freshly extracted human intact straightsingle-root maxillary premolars were randomly divided into 6 groups. Group 1 remained untreated. Cervical defects of 4 mm-depth and 3 mm-height were created in groups 2-6. Group 3-6: root canal treatment. Group 4: direct composite resin restoration. Group 5: 2-mm fullcusp-coverage composite resin restoration. Group 6: fiber-post-supported composite resin restoration. A static fracture test was used to determine the fracture resistance of teeth under axial (n = 10) and palatal (30 degrees) (n = 10) loading. Fracture modes were categorized as restorable and unrestorable. Results: Compared with intact teeth, the axial fracture resistance of teeth with cervical defects decreased by approximately 39%, and endodontic procedures resulted in 10% more reduction. When ETT with cervical defects were restored using direct composite resin filling, the axial fracture resistance recovered to 72% of that of intact teeth, but no significant change occurred under oblique loading. After full-cusp-coverage or fiber-post-supported restoration, fracture resistance showed complete recovery to the value of intact teeth (P > 0.05). Sixty percent of fractures were unrestorable for fiber-post- supported teeth, while in the fullcusp-coverage restoration group, 80e90% of fractures were restorable. Conclusion: Full-cusp-coverage restoration or fiber-post-supported restoration could improve the fracture resistance of ETT with cervical defects, whereas unrestorable fractures easily occurred in fiber-post-supported restorations. Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the fracture strength of teeth restored using fiber-reinforced direct restorative materials after endodontic treatment with a conservative mesio-occlusal access cavity design. Materials and methods: A total of 100 extracted intact mandibular first molars were selected and distributed into a positive control group where teeth left intact and the following four test groups comprised of teeth with conservative mesio-occlusal access cavities that had undergone root canal treatment (n = 20/group): access cavity without restoration (negative control), bulk-fill resin composite with horizontal glass fiber post reinforcement, fiber-reinforced composite with bulk-fill resin and bulk-fill resin composite. Following thermocycling (10,000 cycles), fracture resistance was measured using a universal testing machine. Statistical analyses (one-way analysis of variance and the Tamhane test) were performed, and statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: Groups with minimally invasive access cavities had lower fracture strength than intact teeth, regardless of the restoration material (p < 0.05). Fiber-reinforced composite groups demonstrated higher fracture strength than bulk-fill resin composite alone (p < 0.05). Fracture types varied among groups, with restorable fractures predominant in the fiber-reinforced composite groups. Conclusion: This study suggests that using fiber-reinforced composite materials, especially in combination with bulk-fill resin composites, can effectively enhance the fracture strength of endodontically treated teeth with conservative access cavities. However, using only bulk-fill resin composite is not recommended based on the fracture strength results. Clinical significance: When teeth that undergo endodontic treatment are restored using a conservative access cavity design and fiber-reinforced composite materials, especially in combination with bulk-fill resin composites, the fracture strength of the teeth can be effectively increased.

Abstract:Background/aim: This study examined the effect of several dentin surface treatments on fracture resistance of root filled teeth containing bonded fibre posts. Material and methods: The roots of 84 single-canal premolars were instrumented, filled with gutta-percha and randomly divided into seven groups. The coronal 9 mm of gutta-percha was removed to create a post space. In the experimental groups, canals were irrigated with distilled water, 37% phosphoric acid, 5% sodium hypochlorite, 17% EDTA, 5% sodium hypochlorite followed by 17% EDTA or 5% sodium hypochlorite followed by 10% ascorbic acid. Fibre posts were cemented using Panavia F2.0 resin cement, and the specimens were mounted in acrylic resin blocks. Following 1-week storage in an incubator, specimens were thermocycled and their fracture resistance was determined using a universal testing machine. Data were analysed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: Mean fracture resistance values ranged from 465.8 N in specimens treated with sodium hypochlorite and ascorbic acid to 739.1 N for those treated with sodium hypochlorite only. However, differences in fracture resistance were not statistically significant (P = 0.114). Conclusions: None of the surface treatments improved vertical fracture resistance of root filled teeth containing bonded fibre posts.
Evaluation the stress distribution in root canals by 3D finite element analysis after the materials used in reattaching the vertically root fractured fragments

Abstract:The aim was to evaluate the effect of stress distribution on vertical, horizontal, and oblique forces on the tooth model after reattaching the fragments of the maxillary incisor with vertical root fracture (VRF) using different materials, by 3D finite element analysis (FEA). Tooth with a root canal, spongious, and cortical bone models were designed. VRF was modeled on a tooth with 4 different re-attachment models: Group 1: dual-cure cement (DC)+fiber reinforced composite (FRC), Group 2: DC+polyethylene fiber, Group 3: DC+glass fiber, and Group 4:DC. 100 N force was applied in 3 different directions. Maximum principal stresses (σmax) of dentin, and re-attachment materials were evaluated on colored images. The highest σmax values were on the repair materials under vertical forces for Groups 1 and 4, respectively; Groups 2 and 3 showed similarity. The highest σmax values in repair materials under horizontal and oblique forces were observed in Group 3 however the lowest σmax values in repair materials under oblique and horizontal forces were observed in Group 1. The stress values on repair materials gradually increased respectively starting from horizontal to vertical. As the elasticity modulus of the repair materials increased, the stress values on root dentin increased. Through all force directions, except vertical forces, lower stress values were observed with FRC. The fracture resistance was bigger when using solely FRC or dual-cure resin cement in comparison to fiber-supported designs. Adding polyethylene fiber to re-restorations decreased stress values compared to glass fiber addition. Therefore, when adding fibers, polyethylene fiber will be advantageous.

Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the effect of direct restorations using unidirectional glass fiber orientations and a short-fiber-reinforced composite (SFRC) on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated premolars with mesio-occluso-distal cavities. Ninety double-rooted premolars were selected. Fifteen teeth were left intact/as a control group. The endodontic treatment and cavity preparations of seventy-five teeth were performed and divided into five experimental groups: Resin composite (RC), modified transfixed technique + RC, circumferential technique + RC, cavity floor technique + RC, and SFRC + RC. All teeth were fractured under oblique static loading at a 30° angle using a universal testing machine. The fracture patterns were observed and classified. Data were analyzed with one-way analysis of variance, Pearson chi-square, and Tukey HSD post hoc tests (p = 0.05). The highest fracture strength values were obtained in intact teeth (599.336 N), followed by modified transfixed + RC treated teeth (496.58 N), SFRC + RC treated teeth (469.62 N), RC (443.51 N), circumferential + RC treated teeth (442.835 N), and cavity floor + RC treated teeth (404.623 N) (p 0.05). Unrepairable fractures were observed at low rates (20%) in the modified transfixed + RC and SFRC + RC teeth, and at higher rates in RC (73.3%), cavity floor + RC (60%), and circumferential + RC (80%) teeth. The application of an SFRC or the modified transfixed technique yielded an improved fracture strength and the fracture pattern of ETPs being restored with a universal injectable composite.

Abstract:Purpose. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the fracture resistance and type of failure of two adhesive fiber post systems used to restore endodontically treated teeth. Material and Methods. Twenty-seven extracted premolars were selected and divided into three groups ( n=9 ): a control group restored with direct composite core (group 1), teeth restored with single fiberglass posts (group 2), and teeth were restored with multifiber posts (Biolight Plus System) (group 3). Fracture resistance was measured by applying axial compressive loads parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tooth until failure. Data was analyzed with one-way ANOVA followed by post hoc Turkey tests. Results. The results showed that the mean forces to failure of the control group (0.068 kN) were significantly lower than those restored with either fiberglass post systems ( p=0.013 ). There was no significant difference between the multifiber and the single fiberglass post system in terms of resistance to fracture ( p=0.097 ). Although there are more teeth fractured favorably (above the CEJ) in the Biolight Plus group (77.7%) compared to both the control and fiberglass post groups, it was not statistically significant ( p=0.226 ). Conclusion. Within the limitations of this study, restoring endodontically treated with a multifiber post system is an adequate alternative to single fiberglass post system in terms of resistance to fracture.

Abstract:Objectives: To investigate in vitro post-fatigue fracture behavior of endodontically treated molars having been differently restored. Methods: A total of 120 extracted human molars were used. A total of 120 specimens in 14 test groups and one control group (n = 8) were root canal treated. After postendodontic sealing and build-up (AdheSE Universal, SDR), additional MOD preparations were cut. Postendodontic restorations were: Direct restorations (Tetric EvoCeram BulkFill bonded with AdheSE Universal and EverX Posterior/Essentia bonded with G-Premio Bond; as filling (F) or direct partial crown (DPC) after reducing the cusps 2 mm; indirect adhesive restorations (partial crown/PC vs. full crown/FC): e.max CAD, Celtra Duo, both luted with Variolink Esthetic; indirect zirconia restorations (partial crown/PC vs. full crown/FC), luted with RelyX Unicem 2; indirect non-bonded cast gold restorations (partial crown/PC vs. full crown/FC; Degunorm), luted with Ketac Cem. Before and after 300,000 thermocycles (5/55 °C) and 1.2 Mio. A total of 100 N load cycles, replicas were analyzed under a SEM for marginal quality in enamel and dentin (where applicable) and finally, specimens were loaded until fracture. Results: In direct groups, there was no difference between RC and FRC in fracture strength (p > 0.05); however, direct partial crowns showed higher post-fatigue fracture resistance. Regarding marginal quality, intracoronal FRC restorations exhibited more gap-free margins in enamel than RC. In the indirect groups, there was no significant difference between partial and full crowns in any of the adhesively luted ceramic groups regarding post-fatigue fracture resistance. Zirconia partial crowns exhibited significantly lower marginal quality in enamel. Indirect groups performed significantly better than direct groups in fracture resistance. Within the indirect restorations, both cast gold groups and zirconia full crowns exhibited the highest fracture resistance being superior to control teeth. Significances: Within the limits of this in vitro investigation, it can be concluded that any kind of indirect restoration with cusp replacement is suitable for ETT restoration when a certain cavity extension is exceeded. All indirect restorations, i.e., endocrowns, partial crowns, and full crowns showed a promising performance after in vitro fatigue-loading.

Comparison of Reverse Sandwich Restorations Versus Composite Fillings for the Restoration of External Cervical Resorptions: An In-Vitro Study

Abstract:Objective: The aim was to compare the 'reverse sandwich restoration' to resin composite restorations re- garding marginal adaptation, fracture resistance, favourable/unfavourable fractures in the management of external cervical resorption. Methods: Forty-eight extracted maxillary central incisors were selected and endodontically treated. Cervical regions of the labial root surfaces received simulated resorptive defects and were restored as three randomly allocated groups: Reverse Sandwich Restoration (resin composite + resin-modified glass ionomer) (RSR); resin composite restoration (COMP), and no restoration (NR). Each group was further divided into two subgroups (n=8 each): Thermomechanical Aging (TA) (equivalent to one year) and No Aging (NA). Marginal adaptation was scored by scanning electron microscopy. Fracture resistance was tested using a universal testing machine. Favourable versus unfavourable fractures were classified based on fracture extent. Results: TA decreased the marginal adaptation for both RSR and COMP. Mean fracture resistance per groups were: RSR-NA 1522.4+-94.9N, RSR-TA 939.6+-72.9N, COMP-NA 1197.6+-95.7N, COMP-TA 870.4+-86.3N, NR-NA 1057.1+-88.1N, and NR-TA 836.6+-81.9N, respectively. Fracture resistance was the highest for RSR- NA compared to all other groups (p<0.05). TA decreased the fracture resistance in all groups (p<0.05), there was no significant difference between RSR and COMP regarding fracture resistance and favourable/ unfavourable fractures (p>0.05). Conclusion: RSR provided comparable results to resin composite fillings to restore artificial cervical defects pertaining to marginal adaptation, fracture resistance, and favourable versus unfavourable fractures. RSR is preferable due to its inherent biocompatibility to the periodontium. (EEJ-2023-04-050).
An In-Vitro Analysis of Root Fracture Strength Using Single File Systems

Abstract:Aim Root canal obturation during endodontic therapy supports the root canal space and helps the extra tooth structure resist fracture. Some believe endodontic-treated teeth are more likely to break than natural teeth. The most common causes of tooth decay are endodontic treatment's extensive tooth structure loss and coronal and radicular dentin drying. Materials and methods Two hundred removed human permanent mandibular first molars were allowed to be stored in isotonic saline solution for a maximum of 72 hours. The collection, storing, sterilizing, and handling of the samples were done per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. Out of a total of 200 newly removed mandibular first molars, 120 teeth were finally gathered, sterilized, and kept in 1% thymol in normal saline at 30 degrees Celsius. The access cavity was prepared, and the pulp chamber was cleaned and debrided using an ultrasonic scaler tip while being irrigated with regular saline. A digital radiograph was taken after a 6# K file was placed to the working length in the mesiobuccal canal. Based on their weights, the samples were dispersed equally across the six groups (n=20). They looked inside them to ensure that the root morphology was normal and that the canal was open and free of any abnormalities, damage, or fillings. They looked at the curvature of the mesial root and chose samples with a curvature of 20-35 degrees. The mesial roots were dissected, labeled, and put in a different location. Results Overall, the experimental group's incidence of buccolingual fractures was 55%, making it the most prevalent fracture type. The mesiodistal type of fracture had a 35% incidence rate, which was the second most prevalent. We found that comminuted and transverse fractures occurred in only 15% and 5% of patients, respectively, of all fractures. Both the test and the control groups had a disproportionately high number of buccolingual fractures. When comparing the root fracture loads of the two experimental groups, there was no significant difference (p>0.05) Conclusion Within this study's restrictions and standardization techniques, it can be concluded that the single file system-prepared roots' resistance to fracture was comparable to that of the control group. It is recommended to conduct additional research on these single file systems using different metrics and to assess them in a clinical setting.
Fracture resistance of teeth obturated with RealSeal using two different chelating agents: an in vitro study

Abstract:Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth filled with a resin-based obturation material using two different chelating agents. Methods and materials: Forty extracted single-canal human teeth were prepared, instrumented, and randomly divided into three groups: Group 1 (n=15) received a final flush with 10 ml of neutralized 17% EDTA, followed by 10 ml of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), then obturated using lateral condensation with RealSeal. Group 2 (n=15) received a final flush of BioPure MTAD, followed by 10 ml of NaOCl, then obturated using lateral condensation with RealSeal. Group 3, the control group (n=10), was instrumented but not obturated, then the root canal opening was sealed with a temporary filling material. The specimens were stored in 100% humidity for 10 days, mounted in polyester resin, and loaded to failure. Results: The ANOVA revealed a significant difference between the control group and the experimental groups, although there was no statistically significant difference between Group 1 and Group 2 (p=0.05). The MTAD group displayed higher mean fracture load values than the EDTA group. Conclusions: It can be concluded that filling the root canals with RealSeal increased the in vitro resistance to fracture of single-canal extracted human teeth when compared to instrumented and unobturated teeth. Teeth treated with MTAD demonstrated high fracture-resistance values when compared to teeth treated with 17% EDTA, but they were not statistically significant. Clinical significance: Filling the root canals with RealSeal with increased bonding to roots will increase resistance to fracture of these teeth.
Influence of Direct Coronal Restoration Materials on the Fracture Resistance of Endodontically Treated Premolars: An In Vitro Study

Abstract:(1) Background: The long-term survival of an endodontically treated tooth depends on a successful root canal treatment as well as an adequate definitive coronal restoration. This study aimed to evaluate the strength of endodontically treated premolars with mesial-occlusal-distal (MOD) cavity preparation restored with different direct coronal restoration materials but from the same manufacturer against fracture. (2) Methods: sixty intact premolars were selected and placed into five groups (n = 12): G1-intact teeth, G2-endodontic treatment and unrestored MOD cavities, G3-endodontic treatment and MOD cavities restored with Tetric PowerFlow and Tetric EvoCeram, G4-endodontic treatment and MOD cavities restored with Multicore Flow and Tetric EvoCeram, and G5-endodontic treatment and MOD cavities restored with Multicore Flow. The specimens were subjected to an axial compression load at a speed of 1.6 mm/min and optically inspected before and after with a stereomicroscope. For each premolars group, the following data were recorded: the compression resistance, the compressive strength, and the maximum force supported. The microstructure of the samples after the compression test was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). (3) Results: statistical analysis (ANOVA and Tukey test) showed that there was a statistically significant difference between G1 and the other groups. Even though there was no statistically significant difference between the restored groups, a better mechanical behavior was registered within the G3. (4) Conclusions: this in vitro study indicated that none of the materials used can lead to a higher or at least similar fracture resistance as the intact teeth. The coronal restoration only with nano-hybrid composites may lead to a higher therapeutic benefit for the fracture-susceptible premolars.
Comparative Evaluation of Solite RS3 and HyFlex Remover Retreatment Files in Conserving Remaining Dentin Thickness During Endodontic Retreatment Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography: An In Vitro Analysis

Abstract:Introduction Non-surgical retreatment is seen as a conservative choice for dealing with recurrent infections, instead of opting for periapical surgery. The retreatment processes should be promptly and efficiently carried out, utilizing a suitable armamentarium. The objective of this experiment is to evaluate the quantity of root dentin that remains following the removal of gutta-percha (GP) from the root canal employing two distinct retreatment files. Materials and methods Sixty single-rooted teeth were selected for the examination. The process of shaping and cleaning was performed using the step-back approach, with a master apical file size of 40. The smear layer was effectively eliminated by rinsing with a solution of 3% sodium hypochlorite and 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. Paper points were employed to desiccate the canals. The obturation process involved the utilization of the lateral compaction technique with the AH Plus sealer (Dentsply Sirona, NC, USA). The teeth were classified into two groups: Group I (n=30) underwent retreatment using HyFlex Remover (Coletene India, Pvt., Ltd.), whereas Group II (n=30) received therapy with Solite RS3 retreatment files (Solite Dental in Chennai, India). The remaining dentin thickness (RDT) was assessed by cone beam computed tomography at levels 3, 6, and 9 mm from the cemento enamel junction after the removal of GP. The acquired data underwent examination using an independent t-test to determine statistical significance. Results The findings demonstrate that the utilization of Solite RS3 files led to a higher level of dentin thickness remaining at 3 mm, 6 mm, and 9 mm on the mesial side in comparison to HyFlex Remover retreatment files. The observed difference was found to be statistically significant at a significance level of p<0.05 on the mesial side. Nevertheless, there was no notable disparity seen between the two file types at these three levels on the distal side (p>0.05). Conclusion Based on the obtained results of the study, it can be concluded that Solite RS3 files show promise in preserving the RDT. However, further studies encompassing diverse parameters are needed to establish a conclusive and definitive conclusion.
Fracture Resistance of Endodontically Treated Premolars Using Nanohybrid Composite, Fiber-Reinforced Composite, Horizontal Glass Fiber Posts, and Ceramic Inlays: An In Vitro Study

Abstract:Introduction: This study evaluated the resistance to fracture of endodontically treated premolars (ETPs) with mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) cavities filled with nanohybrid composite (NHC), fiber-reinforced composite (FRC), horizontal glass fiber posts (HFP), and ceramic inlays (CI). Methods: Eighty-four intact maxillary premolars were taken, and endodontic treatment was performed followed by MOD cavity preparations (except in the control group). They were distributed into 7 groups based on type of restoration: intact teeth (control group), ETP + MOD (not restored), NHC, FRC + NHC, HFP + NHC, FRC + HFP + NHC, and CI groups. Samples were subjected to universal testing machine until the fracture occurred and failure mode was visually inspected. Results: Mean and standard deviation of fracture resistance of the 7 groups ranged from 265.6 ± 68.0 N to 1023.7 ± 76.5 N. The highest reading was noted for intact teeth followed by FRC + HFP + NHC group and then the CI group, with no significant difference among the 3 groups. The lowest reading was noted for the ETP + MOD group. Maximum unrepairable fractures were seen in the ETP + MOD and CI groups. Conclusion: FRC + HFP + NHC combination and CIs increased the resistance to fracture of ETPs significantly.

Abstract:Purpose: The objective of this study is to evaluate the fracture strength and mode of failure of endodontically treated teeth with flared canals restored with two fiber reinforced systems (glass fiber and quartz fiber) and one base metal cast post and core system. Materials and methods: Forty five anterior teeth were decoronated at cemento-enamel junction and were endodontically treated. Post space was prepared and randomly divided into three groups according to post system. Specimens were loaded at 45° in a universal testing machine at a cross head speed of 0.5 mm/min until failure. The mode of failure was classified as repairable or non-repairable. Results: Teeth restored with cast posts have fracture strength twice that of teeth restored with fiber posts. Fiber-reinforced posts failed at a certain compressive force but they were repairable unlike the non-repairable fracture seen with cast posts. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that, fracture strength and mode of failure in anterior teeth with flared canals varied according to the type of post used to support a crown.

Abstract:Background: Endodontic treatment is the most common method for resolving pulpal and periapical pathology. However, various studies have reported that almost 11%-13% of all teeth that undergo extraction after endodontic treatment show the presence of cracks, craze lines, and vertical root fractures. Teeth with inadequate post endodontic restoration are more prone to fracture and coronal leakage, resulting in the diffusion of oral fluids, bacteria, bacterial products, and possibly root canal treatment failure. Furthermore, studies have advocated the use of endodontically treated teeth with restorative materials that have a similar or higher elastic modulus than the tooth for providing stiffness against forces that cause root fracture. Intraorifice barriers made of restorative materials that can bond to radicular dentin could thus be used to reinforce the radicular dentin while also preventing coronal microleakage. Although the sealing ability of intraorifice barriers has been widely compared in the literature, there have been few studies on the strengthening effect of the materials used in the study as intraorifice barriers when placed into the root canal. As a result, the current in vitro study aims to assess the effect of various materials as intraorifice barriers (Cention N, Resin modified glass ionomer cement, and short fiber reinforced flowable composite) on the force required fracture teeth after root canal treatment. Methods: This in vitro study will be done on extracted human mandibular premolars with single root canal where after doing root canal treatment 2-3 mm obturating material would be replaced by intra orifice barriers (Cention N, resin modified glass ionomer cement [RMGIC], and short fiber reinforced flowable composite). The force required to fracture teeth will be calculated using universal testing machine.
