Abstract:Motivated by situations in which the removal of a zero (a.k.a., an absorbing element) from a semigroup yields a subsemigroup with another zero, sets of quasi-zeros (a.k.a., quasi-absorbing elements) are introduced as well as primitive elements, minimal ideals and simple semigroups all with respect to a given ideal. An application to set optimization is discussed.

On semisubtractive ideals of semirings

Abstract:Our aim in this paper is to explore semisubtractive ideals of semirings. We prove that they form a complete modular lattice. We introduce Golan closures and prove some of their basic properties. We explore the relations between $Q$-ideals and semisubtractive ideals of semirings, and also study them in $s$-local semirings. We introduce two subclasses of semisubtractive ideals: $s$-strongly irreducible and $s$-irreducible, and provide various representation theorems. By endowing a topology on the set of semisubtractive ideals, we prove that the space is $T_0$, sober, connected, and quasi-compact. We also briefly study continuous maps between semisubtractive spaces. We construct $s$-congruences and prove a bijection between these congruences and semisubtractive ideals.

Abstract:Sufficient conditions are obtained under which the semigroup ring of a semigroup, in particular, of an inverse semigroup, is weakly regular. For some inverse semigroups and some orthodox semigroups, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the weak regularity of the semigroup rings are found. A problem is mentioned especially which is much more difficult for weak regularity than for regularity. Only a partial solution of this problem is given for weak regularity.

Abstract:In this article, we first generalize the method of [13] and give some further characterizations of semigroups with [0-]quasi length. Then we give a very simple necessary and sufficient condition for a class of semigroups, including finitely generated semigroups with [0-]quasi length, finite π-groups, finite nil-extensions of finite inverse semigroups, to be syntactic. This work completely answers the following questions: “How to characterize the syntactic semigroup (monoid) of f-disjunctive languages?” or “What kind of f-disjunctive congruences is syntactic?” These questions are asked forward and studied in [6, 12, 13].

Abstract:Abstract We prove that an hypersemigroup H is regular if and only, for any fuzzy subset f of H, we have f ≼ f ο 1 ο f and it is intra-regular if and only if, for any fuzzy subset f of H, we have f ≼1 ο f ο f ο 1. An hypersemigroup H is left (resp. right) quasi-regular if and only if, for any fuzzy subset f of H we have f ≼ 1 ο f ο 1 ο f (resp. f ≼ f ο 1 ο f ο 1) and it is semisimple if and only if, for any fuzzy subset f of H we have f ≼ 1 ο f ο 1 ο f ο 1. The characterization of regular and intra-regular hypersemigroups in terms of fuzzy subsets are very useful for applications.

Abstract:Abelian groups having partial orderings compatible with their binary operations have long been studied in the literature. In particular, lattice-ordered abelian groups constitute a universal-algebraic variety, and thus form a category which is monadic over the category of sets. The current paper studies the more general case of quasi-ordered abelian groups, identifying some of their more fundamental properties and their relationships to partially ordered and lattice-ordered groups. We reinterpret the category of quasi-ordered abelian groups with order preserving morphisms by examining the interplay between the group and the set of all positive elements under the quasi-ordering. The main result shows that the category of quasi-ordered abelian groups is monadic over the category of set monomorphisms.

Abstract:An ordered semiring is a commutative semiring equipped with a compatible preorder. Ordered semirings generalise both distributive lattices and commutative rings, and provide a convenient framework to unify certain aspects of lattice theory and ring theory. The ideals of an ordered semiring $A$ form a commutative integral quantale $\mathrm{Idl}(A)$, and similarly, the radical ideals of $A$ form a (spatial) frame $\mathrm{Rad}(A)$. We characterise $\mathrm{Idl}$ and $\mathrm{Rad}$ as the left adjoints of the (non-full) inclusion functors from the categories of commutative integral quantales and of frames, respectively, to that of ordered semirings and subadditive morphisms between them. The (sober) topological space $\mathrm{pt}(\mathrm{Rad}(A))$ corresponding to $\mathrm{Rad}(A)$ is homeomorphic to the space $\mathrm{Spec}(A)$ of prime ideals of $A$.

Abstract:For an intra-regular or a left regular and left duo ordered $\Gamma$-semigroup $M$, we describe the principal filter of $M$ which plays an essential role in the structure of this type of $po$-$\Gamma$-semigroups. We also prove that an ordered $\Gamma$-semigroup $M$ is intra-regular if and only if the ideals of $M$ are semiprime and it is left (right) regular and left (right) duo if and only if the left (right) ideals of $M$ are semiprime.

Abstract:The aim of this series of papers is to study $z$-ideals of semirings. In this article, we introduce some distinguished classes of $z$-ideals of semirings, which include $z$-prime, $z$-semiprime, $z$-irreducible, and $z$-strongly irreducible ideals and study some of their properties. Using a $z$-closure operator, we show the equivalence of these classes of ideals with the corresponding $z$-ideals that are prime, semirprime, irreducible, and strongly irreducible, respectively.

Abstract:This paper centers around one of several generalizations of primary ideals. Which is an intermediate class between S -primary ideals and quasi S -primary ideals. Let R be a commutative ring with identity and S be a multiplicative closed subset of R . A proper ideal I of R disjoint from S is called strongly quasi S-primary if there exists an s∈S such that whenever x,y∈R and xy∈I , then either sx2∈I or sy∈I . Many basic properties of strongly quasi S -primary ideals are given, and examples are presented to distinguish the last concept from other classical ideals. Moreover, forms of strongly quasi S -primary ideals in polynomial rings, power series rings and idealization of a module are investigated.

Abstract:The aim of this series of papers is to study z -ideals of semirings. In this article, we introduce some distinguished classes of z -ideals of semirings, which include z -prime, z -semiprime, z -irreducible, and z -strongly irreducible ideals and study some of their properties. Using a z -closure operator, we show the equivalence of these classes of ideals with the corresponding z -ideals that are prime, semirprime, irreducible, and strongly irreducible respectively.

Abstract:The notion of a quasi-order generated by a homomorphism from the semigroup of all words onto a finite ordered semigroup was introduced by Bucher et al. (Theor. Comput. Sci. 40 , 131–148 1985). It naturally occurred in their studies of derivation relations associated with a given set of context-free rules, and they asked a crucial question, whether the resulting relation is a well quasi-order. We answer this question in the case of the quasi-order generated by a semigroup homomorphism. We show that the answer does not depend on the homomorphism, but it is a property of its image. Moreover, we give an algebraic characterization of those finite semigroups for which we get well quasi-orders. This characterization completes the structural characterization given by Kunc (Theor. Comput. Sci. 348 , 277–293 2005) in the case of semigroups ordered by equality. Compared with Kunc's characterization, the new one has no structural meaning, and we explain why that is so. In addition, we prove that the new condition is testable in polynomial time.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the notion of right waist and right comparizer ideals for semigroups. In particular, we study the ideal theory of semigroups containing right waists and right comparizer ideals. We also study those properties of right cones that can be carried over to right $P$-comparable semigroups. We give sufficient and necessary conditions on the set of nilpotent elements of a semigroup to be an ideal. We provide several equivalent characterizations for a right ideal being a right waist. In one of our main result we show that in a right $P_1$-comparable semigroup with left cancellation law, a prime segment $P_2\subset P_1$ is Archimedean, simple or exceptional, extending a similar result of right cones to $P$-comparable semigroups.

Abstract:Dlab and Ringel showed that algebras being quasi-hereditary in all total orders for indices of primitive idempotents becomes hereditary. So, we are interested in for which orders a given quasi-hereditary algebra is again quasi-hereditary. As a matter of fact, we consider permutations of indices instead of total orders. If the standard modules defined by two permutations coincide, we say that the permutations are equivalent. Moreover if the algebra with permuted indices is quasi-hereditary, then this equivalence class of the permutation is called a quasi-hereditary structure. In this article, we give a method of counting the number of quasi-hereditary structures for certain algebras.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study Iseki spaces of distinguished classes of ideals of a semiring endowed with a topology. We show that every Iséki space is quasi-compact whenever the semiring is Noetherian. We characterize Iséki spaces for which every non-empty irreducible closed subset has a unique generic point. Furthermore, we provide a sufficient condition for the connectedness of Iséki spaces and show that the strongly connectedness of an Iséki space implies the existence of non-trivial idempotent elements of semirings.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. We correct [3], Proposition 3.2] by showing that the class of quasi-Noetherian Lie algebras s is not [math]-closed. We repair the resulting gap in Example 5.1 of that paper by proving that any simple-by-soluble Lie algebra is quasi-Noetherian. More generally, any Noetherian-by-quasi-Noetherian Lie algebra is quasi-Noetherian. We also prove that any quasi-Noetherian-by-soluble Lie algebra is quasi-Noetherian, and prove [math]-closure for analogues of the quasi-Noetherian property for modules over associative rings and modules over Lie algebras. Using a wreath product for Lie algebras we prove that the quasi-Noetherian property is not inherited by ideals. Indeed, the derived algebra of a quasi-Noetherian Lie algebra need not be quasi-Noetherian. An analogous example is constructed for quasi-Artinian Lie algebras, which also shows that the Artinian and quasi-Artinian properties are not inherited by ideals of finite codimension.
