Abstract:The corrosion behavior of 12Cr1MoV and 16Mn alloy steels in a sodium aluminate solution containing 2 g/L S 2− was investigated through immersion tests and electrochemical analyses. Microscopic observation was used to visualize the corrosion patterns of the alloy steels; while, a cross-sectional study provided insights into the thickness of the product layer. The electrochemical corrosion behavior was further examined using Potentiodynamic polarization (PP) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The results indicated that, after 6 days of exposure to sulfur containing sodium aluminate solution, the surface corrosion products were minimal, and the impedance arc radius of the product film was larger. However, as the corrosion time increased, the corrosion became more severe, leading to the gradual coverage of the steel matrix surface by corrosion products such as Fe 3 O 4 , FeCr 2 O 4 , and FeS. Cross sectional analysis revealed an increase in the thickness of the corrosion product film at 15 days, with the formation of corrosion pits on the alloy steel surface due to the detachment of numerous FeS and FeCr 2 O 4 corrosion products.
